Chynna, Thank you for sharing this story!! I was in 6th grade when Hold On debuted, and I remember thinking about how beautiful the song lyrics were, I got the cassette single and played in over and over again. I felt those words to my very heart. My childhood was both beautiful and difficult; I was the big sister to a brother who had cerebral palsy, so My journey was a little different than my peers., but I am so incredibly grateful he chose me to be his sister, because he taught me more about life and love than anyone i've ever known in my life. He passed away this past May at 37 years old. That whole record is beautiful, I played in on my way home from work yesterday, and I remembered every single word to every song!! It felt good singing along with you three. Your songs and beautiful harmonies mean so much to me. Blessings and love to you three amazing women, thank you for the music. 💜

absolutely wonderful history telling. Chynna and Billy both are extremely gifted raconteurs, so entertaining. Release Me is a truly beautiful song. In 1990 when it was a hit, I was in a post-relationship, loved her so much, one of those post-breakup things in which we were addicted (to each other), continued to see each other, each trying to turn the love around on our own terms, I was a Believer in Jesus, she was not at that time (although I realized afterward she was right at the door, if I had been more spiritually mature), so anyway, I went to see her one last time, determined to break up for good. Release Me came on, she gently asked "Can you release me Doug?" Later that evening when I did actually break up, I quietly mumbled "time to release me Diana." So the song is deeply embedded as I am sure Wilson-Phillips songs are for so many.

Release Me is very personal to me. I was desperately trying to leave a long term relationship. My co-worker walked into my office one day and said “Release me, just like the song.” That was the end of the relationship, at that very moment. I’ll never forget it.

Awww, thank you for sharing this about the beginnings of "Wilson Phillips". I remember the first time my sweetheart and I heard it on the radio. We both just flipped, and had to turn the radio up and wide open as loud as it would go. You three have continued to be one of my favorite singing bands of all time, and especially the three female voices. By the late 80s, early 90s girl bands were really beginning to rock! I was born in '59 & my sweetheart in '54, so we grew up on your combined parents' music. Woohooo! And then you three carried on the legacy. So beautiful! I actually watched some of the old video of when you three were on "The Masked Singer". One of the judges knew from the very beginning that it was the three of you because he kept talking about the sound. And it was so true. The three of you had a unique sound like it was one voice singing three parts. It was beautiful, pure magic. Thank you so much! And I still play all of my Wilson Phillips music. It's still as moving and relevant today as it was then. I ended up going through some hard times, and "Hold On" got me through. Thank you, Chynna, so, so much! Love, Joy & Blessings to you always! 🤗❤️

When Wilson Phillips came out in 1990 I was in third grade. My mom's cousin had a niece my age and motivated me to hear this song to hang out with her niece who was my age. I really thought my cousin that was my age was so cool. I looked up to her like an older sister. Then one day my grandpa molested me from my dad side of the family. I was really hurt and I remembered the song me and my cool cousin listen to "hold on". I held on so much and never told no one. I kept it inside of me for a really long time. Then one day my mom saw me do something out of the ordinary. So she sent me to a psychiatrist and told me questions about my mom side of the family and my dad side. He heard that I had a great family in my mom side that really took care of me. Then he heard about my dad side, and as soon that I told him what my grandpa did in a low voice he said Erica I know what bad thing happened to you. You just opened up to me. I felt good and felt all the bad things he did to me disappeared. I felt so good in that instant, so clean. Then out of know where a big depression went through to me and my psychiatrist said to hold on and hold that feeling tight so that I would not go deeper into my depression and from there my psychiatrist told me I know what you have now. He said you have bipolar major depression. Then he told me that I needed to tell my parents. From there on to make the story short my mom told my grandpa if ever touched me again she will call the cops and press charges on him. From that forward he never laid a hand on me again. My psychiatrist had said that I will always have depression because that was how bad I had it. But one day in my thirties taking my medications prior with food I went out of that depression and moved on making my dream come true in the medical field. I still take other medications such as pills for anxiety but I was so proud that I did not have that depression anymore. Now me and my favorite cousin our making our dreams come true and I thank God for my mother for noticing me and sending me to go get help. I love you God that I could move on forward and think happy thoughts and that song "Hold On" that me and my cousin shared kept me from holding on.

Dear Chynna, I’ve just seen on KZbin Wilson Phillips “Good Vibrations.” What a work of art. In my humble opinion you did your legendary parents proud. The Mamas and the Papas and the Beach Boys were like a window of hope and aspiration when I was growing up in Northern Ireland in the 70’s. (It was very dangerous and miserable there). So, thank you, Wilson Phillips, the Mamas and the Papas and the Beach Boys for inspiring a scared little boy to dream. I hope you actually see this message one day, as it’s heartfelt. O Chynna, I can't even begin to tell you, how my spirit felt, when I turned on this video, and hearing you say, that the biggest thrill of your life was receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior!! I love the Lord so much! I was born again Christian some 8 years ago, and I never looked back! I came to US almost 33 years ago, from the former Czechoslovakia; in other words, from behind the iron curtain. I still vividly see your group singing "Hold on" on our TV; and how that song made me feel. It was huge in Europe, and I absolutely loved your music! I used to sport the same do as you had; short blond. :). When I just played "Hold on" song, it brought me all the way back to 1990, and somehow got me emotional. So, as I said, I love Jesus so much, and have a personal relationship with Him. I love to share Him with random people, even here on youtube. I am so happy, that you are in His hands, and that He is your Lord and Savior; I just wanna sing out of joy! I am going to share this message anyway, that was meant for you. It is for all those, who do not know the Lord yet. Before I go, I want to thank you for your beautiful music, and the very fond memories I treasure, while listening to it! God bless you and your family sweet Chynna! I'm sending you all my love! ~ Daniela ~ "Beloved, do you know the Lord Jesus Christ? Jesus is the Word of God, who became flesh. He lived a perfect, sinless life, then He died on the cross for our sins. On the third day, Father God resurrected Him; He rose from the dead; and now He is alive, and He sits at the Father God's right hand. He is the one and only true living God; there's no other, apart from Him. He loves us; He created us! He is not the God of religion, He is the God of a personal relationship! He desires a close relationship with us. He said in John 14:6, "Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.' No one can come to heaven except through Jesus! Therefore, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior today, if you haven't done it yet! Repent of your sins, and ask Him to forgive you, cleanse you, and make you a new creation in Jesus Christ! Then invite Him into your heart, and into your life. Talk to Him and acknowledge Him on daily basis; run to Him in your distress, and He'll give you rest! Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Beloved people, tomorrow is promised to none of us; and without Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we won't have an eternal life in heaven. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and His sacrifice on the cross today; do not wait another minute! John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipKuc4eMpaeqack

Well, in my humble (but strong) opinion, grunge is *not* even "good," much less "great." To me, it's written from a place of being very pissed off at the world, and in my five-plus decades on this planet (and having been pissed at the world myself), that's not a nice place to be at all. Maybe from a cathartic standpoint, there's a redeeming quality about it, but that's about where the benefit ends.

Second, Chynna, I loved hearing this story, I loved you saying how excited you were about your demos (I've been experiencing that myself lately!) & I loved that you mentioned Glen Ballard. I mean, of course you did. Fun fact, he just started following me on Instagram, so I'm also praying that he'll see the lyrics I post & like something. Or maybe even give me some advice. 😉 Anyway, it's beautiful to see how God put things into place for all these blessings to come to your life. It gives me so much hope. 💖 (Oh, and BTW, my Cal Preach Pals, if you do watch Caddyshack 2, make sure it's in widescreen. I remember being in Target with my sister when Release Me played over the speakers and I just stopped to hear the song because I never heard such harmony before and couldn't figure out if it was one or several voices. It was like one voice but with layers. I bought the single that day and wore it out playing it all the time.

Chynna, I remember when Hold On was hit. I was working as an RN driving 40 miles (one way) to work each day and I had that CD. I actually sang it for a funeral. In the small town I reside in for years I sang for local funerals, it started out for people I knew or related to that had passed and their relatives would ask me to sing (which was super hard to do) and then it just snowballed. I retired about two years ago. Love this video!!! Love you too! :)

I remember Wilson Phillips as a kid... My Mom had their album blaring in her car speakers the whole drive to a new home during a move. We'd listen to the cassette back and forth on the drive to our new home. I eventually knew all of the words, and I loved it. Also, and this is why I'm commenting, I had no idea who their parents were until recently. Their music stands alone in the best way possible.

A beautiful story being told beautifully. I was 15 in 1990. You were my role models! The melody of your songs took me far away into my dreamworld while putting on that lipstick the same way like you did. 😀 Lots of love to you Chynna, Carnie and Wendy! 🤗

Here I am, watching this again. Great story. I feel like I could sit there with you and listen to you tell stories for days. I loved singing and when I was 10 or 12 I was just singing along with the radio in the dining room with my parents in the room and I looked up and they both were staring at me with there mouth wide open. I said what, and they said you have an incredible voice. I didn't really know what that meant but it made me feel good. So from that day on I sang everything, everyday. I'm what they call, wasted talent. I've been told a million times what a good voice I have, you sound incredible, wow you sound just like them. I never believed anyone that I was that good. I karaoked for years, always getting ovations and I received so many business cards from people saying, call me your voice is insane. I'd wake up the next day and throw there card away. I was in the choir and chosen few in high school only because my parents said I was good and the teacher had recruited me from 7th grade lol. She was walking around the class while we were all singing Jingle Bells and when the bell rang she asked me to say behind. She said I heard you singing and I want you in the choir in high school. I guess I believed that if I was really that good, then I would get noticed by some super famous person or it just would happen. I didn't put it as a goal or anything I really wanted to achieve. Now at 51 years old I wish I'd of put my all into it and gave it a shot. Just wasted talent. Loved this story on Wilson Phillips. Obviously brought back memories.

I wasn’t a songwriter either. I was horrible at it... I tried... and tried my whole life and nothing. Then I turned 50. The Lord gave me music and lyrics... He literally funneled it through me at one of the most desperate times of my life. Not Christian music but the Lord is in it. I am telling you almost every time you post I can so relate to you on so many levels. I am hesitant to even writing you here but I don’t know where else to communicate. A song we recorded for a British radio host just went #1 on spinitron. God has me listening to you for a reason. All that you go through although different than your story is so similar. Grateful for your channel. Its nice to listen and know my struggles are not just my own. Another funny coincidence my sisters name is Wendi.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful inspiring story. God gave you a gift for song writing! I remember being a young teenager when “Hold On” came out and Wilson Phillis had such refreshing positive air of fresh air that was rare at that time. We needed a group like that in the world!

Oh my goodness that first album cover brings back so many memories!! My kids were toddlers when Hold On came across the radio. I went crazy over it! I immediately bought the cassette tape, eventually got the cd, which I still have. It’s still one of my all time favorite songs! My kids are in their 30’s now and I guarantee you could sing every lyric if they heard it today. 😃😃

Love your sharing your story of how you gals came to be. I loved May 8th because it was my awesome Daddy’s birthday. I was blessed to have the best Daddy ever. He was a Godly man and lived what he said. He didn’t just talk. He believed you had to activate what the Bible said. Not just go to Church then forget why you went. Lots of love and prayers. I loved all 3 of you girls. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

PS...your mother was always protective of you....what a wonderful mother. Mine was as well. I was close with my dad...his always said I was his favorite ....i always felt safe and loved talking with him. I still miss him so much. He worked so hard in providing for us all and spiritually...but we had the choice in serving Our Heavenly Father!!! I MADE THE TRUTH MY OWN. Always remember the words at Psalms 29:9-11. And Revelation 21:3 and 4. Agape.
