Yeah, I actually find the ''doesn't Understand the Cards'' title a bit , a bit meh lol. It's actually interesting and intriguing listening to many of his thought Processes. Maybe the thing is , YugiOh 2 is just a little overbearing for most , he should just go with a de Facto default instinct to just call his votes to what the Format wants , ''everything's busted so everything except those Extra deck busted Cards he won't know about , are at 3''

I’ve watched CGB play Commander. As long as he goes in with a good enough understanding of the rules (around chain links, special summoning mechanic and the parts of the battle phase), I don’t think Tearlaments as a deck can break his brain. 1:08:06 Translated in MTG for you, CGB: Indestructible, Hexproof Discard 1 card: counter target spell/ability, then destroy the source, if it was a permanent and this card gets 2 +1/+1 counters. 0: Destroy target creature an opponent controls, then Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon deals damage to that creature's controller equal to its power. You can only activate this twice per turn and only as a sorcery.
@HeWhoHungers
@HeWhoHungers Сағат бұрын
That's Shroud, not hexproof. You also missed out the "if you do" clause in the second activated ability (first on the Yugioh card), which is as relevant in Magic as it probably is in Yugioh, something along the likes of "When that creature is destroyed this way". I'm also not sure I'd word the other ability as an activated one, since you can only use it in response to an opponent's spell or ability. Either way, the once per turn should be reflected in it. Something like "When an opponent casts a spell or activates an activated ability, you may discard a card. If you do, counter that spell or ability. If an activated ability of a permanent that player controls is countered this way, destroy that permanent. When a permanent is destroyed this way, put X +1/+1 counters on Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon. This ability triggers only once each turn." I also don't know if the second ability on the Yugioh card lets you destroy a card in the opponent's hand or deck? If so, that should also be reflected in the MTG effect, something like "If an activated ability of a card in that player's hand is countered this way, that player reveals his or her hand (reasonable in MTG since hand is a hidden zone) and discards a card with that name.". I don't know what the matching effect would be from a card in their library but it probably involves a lot of fluff.

Pretty much this. As someone who doesn't care about MTG and is here for Cimo, it wasn't fair. The entire video was prefaced with it being new cards and 'Yugioh 2'. So with Raigeki he assumed it was a modern release card, not one of the very first cards ever printed. And for modern standards, he evaluated it correctly. Nah, CGB got the Raigeki point. If you're gonna hone in on the modern years and claim you're gonna show new(er) cards and then proceed not to disclose Raigeki being from the very first set, that's not his fault. His evaluation was pretty good. Honestly, hearing CGB evaluate Evenly Matched, I'm genuinely impressed at how quickly he understood a lot of the modern dynamic after seeing Kashtira Fenrir alone. The notion that "everything was broken so nothing was broken" is not true though. Some things were way more broken than others (Stopping Power was essentially the only tier 2 perk you could run, same with Command in tier 3) and some (looking at Model 1887) even got nerfed (at a time when nerfing things in games was super uncommon). It felt "balanced" because we were kids/teenagers back then and nobody played competitively, if they brought that game back a meta would form instantly and only a handful of kits would be viable

A major reason why Dimensional Barrier never got banned is because a year after it released the entire meta shifted into Links, the one mechanic it doesn't stop. In fact, I seem to recall that people were fully aware about Link mechanics when Dimensional Barrier was announced for the OCG. Not only was it not as effective in the meta, it also would act as an incentive to start buying new Link decks (as if the power creep wasn't enough). Similar to Dragoon, which facilitated a card being made SPECIFICALLY to counter it in the OCG, which in the TCG was printed BEFORE it.
@GodzillaFreak

That doesn't make any sense because Dimensional Barrier came out in a core set not a side set so it matches everything else on the timeline. If anything we would've known more about links by the time we got it.

Dragoon pass is still a good play on its own, statistically likely to prevent the opponent from ever playing the game. No, it's not as good as Dragoon plus other things, but pretending that Dragoon pass cannot win games is silly. And if the opponent negates REF, you're not locked by its condition. So it only has downside if you get the upside. Yes, you do have to include 2 bricks in your deck to run it. That's the actual drawback. The fusion spell is only a dead draw if you somehow already used it and get it back into your hand without being able to make Dragoon again.

Control in YGO and control in Magic is an interesting thing to compare. Most decks in YGO usually have to be able to counter or control the game in some way, even if it’s not the thing they’re most efficient at, and most control decks outside of stun usually can one-turn kill when they play their first battle phase. In Magic (in the current Standard format in Arena, I’m new to the game, that’s the only context I’ve got), there’s a lot of very-low creature count to zero creature decks out there. I don’t think I would even call all of them control, because the control decks are playing aggressive amounts of creature removal, some counterspells and usually some way to create tokens off Instants, Planeswalkers or Lands or bring Lands out as creatures, or even a Planeswalker that becomes a hexproof creature on your turn and still has its Planeswalker abilities. It really is an incredibly slow grindy kind of way to play Magic (and there are aggro decks in the format too that can consistently kill you on turn two or three, it’s one of the reasons creature removal is favored over counterspells right now), and Yu-Gi-Oh has to go back to Edison or GOAT to see that style of gameplay. Maybe HAT too. Also two other notes: I think Cimo would enjoy the current standard format in Magic, and CGB might enjoy modern Yu-Gi-Oh more than he thinks he would, maybe even more than Cimo does. The other note is that it’s amazing to me how bad a card like Duress is compared to Confiscation and other hand-ripping effects in YGO. Just needing the black mana can be stupid enough in a basic Dimir (Blue/Black) deck if you open Islands and no Swamps, or you open Swamps but you need Islands for your Spyglass Sirens and now you have to mulligan or risk it all on drawing the specific land you need to form a playable hand, but Duress just becomes a much worse card the longer the game goes on and when I get hit by like three hand-ripping spells, it’s amazing that you can just laugh those off and win anyway. In Yu-Gi-Oh!, one hand rip might end the game, two almost definitely would, and three is just you can’t come back from that.

yeh thats an accurate assessments would note that there are some decks that can minimizing those caveats like branded decks since they can make use of dark magician from anywhere as the light/dark monster requirement + albaz which the branded deck revolves around to fusion summon their lubellion/albion dragon that has its own built-in fusion effect on summon banishing or returning the materials to deck to summon dragoon using the freshly used dark magician and lubellion/albion itself as the effect dragon requirement over red-eyes since only dark magician is mandatory requirement this means it can only use its destroy and burn effect once instead of twice but its enough alternative the white forest deck has surprisingly shown the ability to run dragoon without any of the bricks at all because they can easily summon muddy mudragon a monster with a built-in fusion ignition effect and has the additional ‘passive’ effect to substitute itself for 1 fusion material mentioned on a fusion monster requirement specifically so it can substitute itself for albaz to make lubellion/albion and then use their effect to make dragoon using mudragon substitution again once more as dark magician compare to branded’s method, dragoon cannot use its destroy and burn effect at all since no normal monster were used as material in this case

@@YukiFubuki. I think without that destroy effect, it's not actually that strong. It just is an effect cancelling 3000 body that can negate effects by discarding cards (i.e. it turns every card into a potential hand trap). That's good, but by modern standards if I'm understanding this right, it's not worth revolving a deck around. 3000 is a statline that a good number of things can equal or beat in battle and it has no protection against just being hit in the face with another big monster. The thing that makes this card so insane is the card removal it adds on top of its nullification value AND the fact that in doing so, it makes itself harder to defeat in battle. So, yeah, if you remove those cards as fusion components, I'm not convinced this card is even worth running by the standards of other things we've seen in this video.

@@andrewdarby8843 your right its negate is its highlight that additionally makes it stronger each time it uses the effect which is compounded by its destruction and targeting immunity but 3000 atk is actually still quite significant since the opponent will still need to pour resource into making 3000 atk monster to crash into it for mutual destruction at worst (assuming the dragoon didnt use its effect yet and remains at 3000) and that 3000 atk monster they sacrificed likely played a specific role in their deck with a certain part of their strategy probably disabled now that its dead the thing with the 3000 atk stat line is that if you go and catalogue all the monsters in the game with 3000 or higher atk value then see how many of those cards is 3100 or higher the pool of monsters suddenly becomes becomes less then half so its not just a 'good number', it is THE NUMBER for boss monster so while yes there are things that can match or beat it just simply going over 3000 is something of a feat in and of itself and if you use dragoon's effect just a single time to make it 4000 atk he suddenly becomes a whole lot scarier because anything at the 4000 benchmark or higher is typically significantly more resource intensive to bring out along with the player likely only having 1 shot to try to get something just as strong or stronger out so you would be hoping the opponent doesnt catch on and cut you off that path because most decks simply do not play anything over 3000 in the first place due to it usually being unnecessary as removal will likely do the trick if not a well timed disruption or that the deck itself likely have to pivot away from their actual strategy into something more clunky and possibly sacrifice their intended play just to be able to get something out that can deal with something that is mainly only vulnerable by battle the biggest misconception however is the idea that someone would make a deck revolving around it... well to be fair im sure someone actually would but a deck simply revolving around just a specific card is not a prevalent deck building mindset in modern yugioh and part of why dragoon is more commonly seen in something like branded and white forest decks then anything else is because they can summon him without much effort, it doesnt get in the way in the way of their actual strategy much or at all nor does he play a big part in the deck's win-con either and instead dragoon is; simply a supplemental end piece in their strategy, a threat they can fall back on if all else fails in a simplified game state and/or something they can use to pressure and soften the opponent up because he needs to be dealt with immediately otherwise he can quickly get outa hand single handily gatekeeping the opponent from victory

Technically, it was never a new attack declaration. You just choose a different target. Example: Player B has "Scapegoat", "Mirror Force" and "Sangan" set face-down. Player A declares an attack on Player B's face-down monster. Player B activates "Scapegoat" and summons 4 goat tokens. A replay occurs and Player A chooses a token as their new attack target. Since attack declaration has happened before "Scapegoat" was activated, Player B is now unable to activate "Mirror Force".

With regard to 6:30, cards are fairly frequently cast from exile in MTG, but you will rarely cast cards from exile that were exiled by an opponent's effect. The exile is often used as something like temporary draw, where you have one or two turns to play the exiled cards before they're gone forever. This is mostly a red mechanic and appears on cards like Escape to the Wilds, Galvanic Relay, and Expressive Iteration. There are very few cards that can act on cards exiled by an different source. They are alike in the sense that those cards are often effectively gone from the game if the source that put them in exile is removed. For example, if I exile an Ulamog with my Ugin's Labyrinth and then my opponent uses Field of Ruin, my Ulamog is just as good as a creature hit with Swords to Plowshares.

Idk you guys, but this man who has never played yugioh, is really good at his guessings Yes, he doesn't guess it correctly, but he is either close with a very exact use and description of the cards, or he is correct... And then is Fenrir

I will say I think the D Barrier "help" was a l i t t l e unfair; saying that decks don't pivot to other Extra Deck types is not quite accurate anymore, ESPECIALLY with Link monsters. Since users can't declare Links and they are dummy easy to summon, I would say it makes the card slightly weaker

Yeah it was a little disingenuous to not say that there’s an entire extra deck mechanic that’s unaccounted for by Barrier.

Super impressive that he didn't fall for the dragoon bait. Turns out this cardgame channel knows how to look at card games.

1:05:47 Actually, CGB, Dragoon IS one of those cards that does (or tries to) get slow advantage across turns. It doesn't require a combo to bring out, you get it by just playing a single spell from your hand with virtually not cost, but the main restriction is you can't special summon that turn, so it forces your deck to play much slower to be able to play this card. Being able to destroy 1-2 monsters a turn and negate a card per turn is actually not backbreaking in Yugioh, and you'd need to be running other traps with this to be able to survive the opponent's turn. Dragoon is one of my favourite cards as a Yugioh control player.

I love how CGB immediately realises what a stupid card Fenrir is. Now i can only imagine what he'd think of the whole deck.
