Since I haven't seen it in the commentary, I'll go ahead. At the end of the whole monologue about his screenplay, it all went south with the studio. But at the end of his stage emoting, I remember the phrase; "well, what do you know, a fucking giant spider!" Watch Kevin Smith's stage show. Anyway, enjoy.

In Will Smith's defense in choosing this movie, before The Matrix, the Wachowskis weren't very well-known. Also, he had just made a huge hit (Men in Black) with Barry Sonnenfeld, the same director hired for Wild Wild West. In that context, it seemed like a safer bet.

The producer was trying to get a Superman movie made with a giant mechanical spider, because superman being a bad mo fo would fight one according to the producer. Kevin Smith then saw Wild Wild est a year or so later. There's the freaking spider! Kevin Smith mentioned the whole story on Evening with Kevin Smith, and on the Superman special.

A good visual gag would be to have another actor perform when Kline is disguised as a woman, so when he's find out or just removing his wig he would just reverts back to his usual self. And it would make sense that almost everyone won't notice because he's that good at disguising himself.

Sean, not to be rude, but the blu-ray version of The Matrix (specifically the first film) is kind of a waste of money . That version is infamous for being digitally color grated greener than the films original theatrical release and the DVD release (You can find comparison of frames from the blu-ray with the same frames from 35mm theatrical prints online showing their differences) to the point that the movie looked nothing like its original release (or how I say it, printed on a dollar bill). On the plus side, the 4k blu-ray is a far better version since Warner Bros. made no alterations to the film outside of a digital restoration to the original negative (they had to for a film that was almost 20 years old).

Yes,that's how little people wanted to see this back then Also unfun fact for TUCM: Vince later made a successor to the movie called "InAPPropriate Comedy", which according to Wikipedia (because I'm not watching that), it was basically the same gross humor but with a framing device of Vince pulling up apps on his phone (get it?)

I was alive but really young when the tv show first ran. My parents watched it and enjoyed it, especially Ross Martin, who I later grew to appreciate. At the time, I remember looking forward to the short animated sequences between the acts, and liking the beginning credits, also animated. As bad as it is, it is fun to watch how cringe it actually is. The effects are terrible for the time, the acting is way over the top and the editing is weird as hell. It's also weird that it was basically a passion project and tribute to LR Hubbard by John Travolta. But hey these are scientologists we're talking about, of course it's gonna be beyond bizarre.

The giant spider would be so easily destroyed by cannonfire on one of the legs. Sure it would be powerful, but hiding some cannons on the route it would be walking would be more than enough to take it down. Looks pretty dependent on having all 8 legs working. All that time, effort, and money to create a giant spider that would be dangerous for about a week.

I have a theory that the original script for this came out as a very dark civil war drama, and the studio mandated the comedic elements be added later. That would explain the tonal problems. Because if you strip out the comedy, what's left is a story about a Southern inventor who gave everything to the war only to be betrayed versus a Black army captain seeking revenge for the slaughter of a town of free Blacks.

I honestly think Baby Geniuses should have won worst movie of 1999, that movie is a crime against humanity. Wild Wild West was bad, but at least they tried and it had potential to be a good movie if they knew what they were doing, I cannot say the same about Baby Geniuses. I never saw the underground comedy (and I'll probably never will), but it seems like a very obscure film that hardly even matters, so I will still go with Baby Geniuses.

TV in the sixties did feature Native Americans in appropriate roles when they could, but the number of Native American actors at the time was extremely small; often Mexican actors would play such roles, or actors of Latin descent. If you were watching TV in the sixties, you took this for granted, and quite a few white American actors who had a "craggy" or "moody" appearance were believed by some viewers to actually be Native Americans (especially when these programmes were shown in the UK). And don't forget, TV shows are made under incredibly time constraints, so when guys turn up at the audition who look like they can do the part, they get the part. It's not about making decisions for artistic reasons, but for pragmatic ones.
