James Bond! No Time to Die is coming! Isn't it weird that Bond films never have his name in the title? Like, have you ever missed a Bond film because you didn't realize it was a Bond film? And when people go looking for Bond films on KZbin, do you think they type "James Bond Movie?" Do you think that I probably think that which is why I've typed Bond 7 times now? Casino Royale! Some loved it, some hated it. Also don't you feel like there already is a Bond movie called No Time to Die? Here's everything right with Casino Royale either way!

About the poker game: They are playing a high stakes cash game in tournament style. Increasing blinds and antes until everyone has all the chips, in this case, they are worth their dollar value. Winning players usually tip the dealers after winning, not mandatory but appreciated. Since that money it's not Bond's, he couldn't care less if he tips $500k. The dealer is appreciative of the tip, not expecting it. You can bet that deep down he's screaming with joy.

I really wish they had taken this opportunity to stick more to the novels, because they clearly got just the right amount in this movie. They still could have done Quantum and Skyfall, just added more elements, or even entire story beats, from the novels. I grew up watching Bond with my dad and while I was never the biggest fan of the books, going back and reading Casino Royale after watching this was so great.

The only people to change in the movie are Moneypenny and Mallory, and they are side characters. Just wanted to mention a moment that I loved in this film: When Bond tells Vesper the password. Look at her face. She sees how much she means to him, so implicitly. He bet over a 150 million pounds on her name and held on regardless of torture and near-death. And in that moment, she also knows that she has fallen for him because of his bravery and loyalty and love and now she must live with the horrific betrayal that she will make. Throughout her scenes, watching her in hindsight really gives Eva Green’s performance new light. You see that guilt as Bond warms to her and then opens to her. And it is the culmination of all that in the password word reveal that hits her like a ton of bricks. Which makes it doubly hard for an audience rewatching Casino Royale, knowing what’s coming. Goes to show what an airtight script, detailed direction and excellent actors can create. It’s the best Bond yet (at least until No Time to Die arrives!)

@Grim_Beard

My take is that Bond chose the password 'Vesper' so that if he succumbed to torture, he could scream her name. The torturer would (hopefully) not realise that it was the password, just think it was Bond being in agony and anguish and calling the name of the woman he (sort-of) loved. It's a very calculated move, rather than a romantic one.
@jmlkhan5153
@jmlkhan5153 4 жыл бұрын
@@Grim_Beard That is unrealistically brilliant. It gave me a great idea though- If I'm ever in charge of a very important password, that I get to choose, and if there is ever a possibility that I will be tortured for it, I will choose "Fuck you" for my password.

I remember my friends and I were raving about this movie when we exited the cinema. Quantum of Solace had that great opera sequence and Spectre had quite a few itself including that epic opening sequence that looked like it was captured in an unbroken single shot but Skyfall and especially Casino Royale were solid throughout. I'll usually watch a portion of Skyfall when it's on television but I will pick up Casino Royale at any point in the film and nine times out of ten watch it until the end. Daniel Craig was the first Bond I truly believed when the character was in action. Connery was Playboy suave with a streak of ice running through his veins, Roger Moore was mostly a quipping fop, George Lazenby pretty vanilla but serviceable, Timothy Dalton had potential but needed deeper material, Pierce Brosnan met Connery's suave, GQ look and could be icy but the character was on the thin side, and along came Craig -- that perfect blunt instrument.

I'm a fan of the Bond movies and its character since I watched "Goldfinger" when I was 10 years old. Later on, I've watched also the movies before it, learned to appreciate them and the actors who played this outstanding figure. But nobody convinced me more than Mr. Craig. In my opinion, he plays James Bond with the highest commitment of all Bond actors. It's him I believe the most, although he started to hate playing this role. But he's such a remarkable actor that he still commits 100 percent to the role, as it's his job. Fortunately, we can be glad that this franchise has brought to us so many great movies with great actors. But in my humble opinion, Mr. Craig stands above all them. I hope that whoever will get casted as his successor will bring in the same passion and commitment that Mr. Craig had

7:58 He wasn't being reckless. He was covering for the fact is cover was already blown earlier. When they found the women dead who he didn't sleep with earlier in the film M asked if she knew anything about him they could have gotten from her, "like his name", and bond said no; but she did know his name. This scene at the hotel provides a cover for bond for why they know his name without revealing his earlier mistake.

When Bond kneels down to tie his shoelaces, I actually prefer to think it's him deliberately looking and acting the part of a valet to score an expensive car. There's even a moment beforehand where he adjusts his shirt and tie a little, which might imply adjusting his guise, but it's never directly stated. But the fact that Bond EITHER did that or your version is actually a really good theme of this theme: what is going on in Bond's head is constantly in question, and that drives most of the film's drama!

Casino Royale officially turns 15 today!!! I still remember seeing it with my dad and my sister Cara opening weekend , dad was so disappointed Many fans lost their minds seeing a blonde, blue-eyed Bond even though Roger Moore was technically a blonde too But the movie thankfully made over $616 million and was loved by critics It rebooted the franchise after being nearly decimated by Die Another Day self-parodying itself and being plagued by stupid scenarios many of the other films suffered Felt refreshing being more darker, serious, and closer to the character of Bond Ian Fleming wrote Daniel Craig is a perfect James Bond next to Sean Connery His first outing is perhaps the purest example of Bond being willing to strip the character to his bare bones and then rebuild in a way that works for modern audiences - and, crucially, the actor playing Bond This was also my first introduction to Mads Mikkelsen and Eva Greene Vesper Lind is one of my favorite Bond girls Judi Dench is still the best M Love the action set pieces, the disposal of the silly one-liners, and the lack of gadgets Breathtaking scenery and a fantastic score by David Arnold That song by the late Chris Cornell is still so catchy So glad this was a less-jokey take on the franchise and it helps director Martin Campbell also did Goldeneye previously A very long movie yes but remains a caustic, intense, haunted re-invention of 007 thats more mature So happy they started over from scratch even if people were outraged at first Really glad my dad was a James Bond fan and then I became one

Yes, Casino Royale is definitely Bond's film. My favorite Bond movie, and that's with all due respect to the original Connery films, and one of my top five all-time favorite movies.

It is kind of sad that many people didn't get to understand the depth of Eva Green's character and performance because their home theater setup didn't have enough sound dynamic range.

This is one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time. I mean EVER. Never mind that it belongs to a beloved, iconic 50+year series that portrays one of the most perfect protagonists ever thought up by a writer, this is a stand alone GREAT movie. I love seeing Casino Royale proving its brilliance through the test of time and becoming more and more appreciated with time (especially as the love of Skyfall fades (as it should) and Casino Royale stays its course... as it should. I love coming back and seeing newer comments years later of people speaking more and more of exactly the same things I saw this movie had with every bit of brilliance in its every scene. It's nearly as perfect as a movie can be in SO many ways: It has some of the best action you will ever see (that is NOT CG that is lazily thrown at the dumbed-down masses who ooh and ahh at that garbage). This is as much a REAL movie as they get. It has superb character development, alternating segments of suspense, emotion, feel good moments, and edge of your seat moments, with realism of villains and dialogue.. DANG it's got such great dialogue and banter. It also has a more complex act structure that so many movies fail to deliver today. 4 and 5 acts instead of the usual 3-part act, with each one offering material that would be used as the main plot to lessor movies. And it's a beautiful film: characters, sets, women, wardrobes, with charisma abound among Bond, the leading women, the secondary characters, and loaded with some of the most beautiful, exotic locales (sunny, tropical, bright and pleasurable places, not dark, dungeony, dull and depressing like in the Sam Mendes-directed movies of Skyfall, Spectre). Casino Royale has a director in Martin Campbell (also Directed GoldenEye) who knows HOW to portray Bond as he should be, that other directors can't compare (i.e. again, Sam Mendes --who knows nothing about injecting the much needed masculine qualities to a leading character such as James Bond that every scene demands). You really admire Bond in Casino Royale. Much less in the later Bond movies. And did I already mention REAL stunts that Casino Royale has?... really great, even Guiness book record-breaking real stunts. From the opening scene to the final punch and black out of the last scene to start the rolling of the ending credits, Casino Royale takes you for a MOST-ENTERTAINING ride; and a ride with a story! --- you remember that thing called a story that movies are supposed to have, and an even GREATER movie has when it is a COMPLEX story? Yeah, it's got that ...and everything else. Watch it. This movie will be loved forever !

10:51 this scene, while well paced and interesting, can go fuck itself for the video game level it inspired. Damn near almost threw my Wii controller out the window with that one.

Mads Mikkelsen, I want to see him as the villain in far, far more things then I currently have. I know that Death Stranding wasn't everyone's cup of tea, however I can say that very few if any other people would have made Clifford Unger come to life the way that he did. Credit has to be given where credit is due.

A thing about the shower scene: While it just looks on the surface like another “woman get scared so she’ll fight then cry cuz murder” scene, but it actually shows how detached and focused Bond is compared to Vesper. She is basically a desk jockey for MI6 and goes out on a few missions that almost always don’t require killing and Bond is the stairwell brawler. If Vesper was actually better at Bonding then she might not have died. Really shows the attraction of opposites between these two.

That flashback in a flashback scene was amazing, and the part where Bond is drowning the man, that shot where the camera is looking up at Bond seems reminiscent of Sean Connery.

I remember people saying that they really liked Casino Royale when it came out, and I know that they look back on it fondly. But I still think this movie is HUGELY underrated. The writing, direction, sound design, editing, acting, and the way they simultaneously celebrate and satirize the Bond franchise is all just phenomenal.

Her dialogue in the dinner scene is fascinating. She says, "You've got a choice, you know. Just because you've done something, it doesn't mean that you have to keep doing it." On the surface, she's talking about Bond being an agent and killing people, but the subtext for her is she's talking about betraying her government and by extension, Bond. She's already in love with him, and she's having to deal with the realities of her situation. It was easy for her to betray her government when it was just a faceless institution, but it's much more difficult for her now that she deeply cares about someone personally victimized by her betrayal. By saying that Bond still has a choice in what he does, she is also saying that she can choose to stop being a traitor. But she can't quite convince herself, which is why she's so adamant that Bond can change; it's not really about whether Bond can change, it's about whether she can. Bond returns with a quip about people who can't take advice being the ones who always give it. This startles Vesper because, like the scene on the train, he can see through her. He can't see completely through her; he doesn't know what she's struggling with, but he can see that she's driven by something. Vesper is so rattled by Bond's insight that she's put on the defensive and answers his question with a question of her own, sidestepping the issue. Bond brings the issue back to the forefront by revealing how much he's able to see through her, and saying that he'll never know what's driving her. This is a perfect opportunity for Vesper to come clean and tell him everything, but the opportunity is lost. She gets a text, Bond realizes that Mathis is a traitor, Vesper is kidnapped, then Bond is kidnapped, and then she is forced to make a deal to save Bond's life by giving up the money Bond won in the tournament. After that, it's too late for her. She can't tell him her situation because the people she was working with would kill Bond. So they continue to fall in love, but she knows the relationship is doomed. Her only hope is to die and pay for her sins against Bond. She knows he'll hate her forever, but his hatred is worth it if it keeps him alive. She loves him more than she values her own life.

This is my favorite Bond film ever. The credit song "you know my name" is amazing. the Madagascar intro is the definition badass, craig is an absolute unit, Mads Mikkelson is a very creepy and in the end, unpleasant villain. Vesper is good im not a huge fan but shes still a classic bond girl. the torture scene is agonizing and yet so perfect in every way. its not quite as dark as the book. the poisoning scene is tense as all hell. such a shame Quantum Of Solace is so pathetically bad compared to Casino Royale. Skyfall is pretty decent. Spectre is also fine just a tad too long for me. I hope No Time To Die is a finisher that does Craig justice.

I actually like the idea that a 00 agent requires 2 confirmed kills on record before they are given the status. As for the "License to Kill" I figured that just means he does not have to seek approval from parliament to execute a target, basically a way to clear up red tape.
