You really got me thinking. I checked the current and watts on my Hayward 1hp pump. 14.5 amps and 1091 watts. That equates to about $1000 a year electric cost. I spent about $1200 to $1500 for chemicals. Just told the wife and she said were foolish not to switch. This will be one of my next projects. Thanks DW6!

Switch pumps and put in the salt water chlorinator, I would use the Circulpool ones.

So will this pump make you remove your mechanical timer since the pump has its own built in timer? Or at least leave it and remove the on/off trippers

Thanks! I won't be doing the install, but I want to be able to check the installers work. I may have 1.5 diameter pipe instead, so is there some adapter that goes between the smaller pipe to the larger? My inground pool is from the 90's. It's open year around, so it would be nice to keep the water circulating all the time since I have trees all around it dropping stuff all day. I have zeolite, so maybe the lower speed would help it? Thanks.

Thank you for the video. My mother in law needs a new pump and I’m researching myself. I was looking through your videos looking for a follow up. Any chance you’ll be doing one soon?

You might look into a D.E. Filter. I switched from sand to D.E., and besides shorter run time, and 5 times faster filtration, sparkling clear water and MUCH lower electric bills too!
@jamessepulveda52022 жыл бұрын
Lol. DE filter sucks. It's messy, grids always either collapse or breaks. DE is all hype. Backwashing is still involved and DE powder is a killer on the lungs and surroundings. DE is literally pest control powder. Cartridge filter can achieve you the same quality and not lose any chemicals on your pool. Less mess.

Nice. I would keep the old pump so you can do other things like a portable cleanup pump or waterfall pump.

Use it as a external pump when pool needs a fast drain to clear storm water debris ext . . .

the problem I have with my pentair variable is on the lowest setting the skimmers do not work as well. Filters the water fine just not the greatest as far as the skimmers. So I keep mine at high for 4 hours and medium for 6 hours and low for 3 hours. Ends up using around a buck twenty five a day.

As a 10 year technician and a pool service owner running that pump on the lowest setting is not the way to go, It’s recommended a minimum target turnover rate of 6 hours and a minimum of 2 turnovers per 24 hours. The turnover rate is important for proper filtration. It's essential to ensure that the pump operates efficiently and remains cost effective. I recommend having it run from morning to noon at about half speed (1500ish)and then from noon to 4pm at the highest setting (hottest part of the day) and then run it at around 450 to 600 rpm the rest of the time until it changes again in the morning.

Is your SWG wired in such a way that it will not be energized if the pump is not running? I’m researching VSPs as well, and I’m finding that is something that needs to be addressed when upgrading to a VSP.
@doublewide65 жыл бұрын
My swg has a flow switch so it will not operate unless there is water flowing. It is only energized when the pump is on. Hope that helps.

Hey, Great video. Just one question if you have time to answer: How did you wire the chlorinator? And, is the pump connected to the timer? (It was actually 2 questions :) ) Thank you!

This is the biggest misconception they try to sell you to do more conservation. If you need to take 5 pound of weight 2 stories up, it takes same amount of energy to do in 6 hours or 16 hours. You need to move so much water with an induction motor or a variable speed motor. Total work done is the same. You must move that water a few times a day. There is not energy saving at the end, and you must pay for the CapX of the new motors and pumps. How much energy conservation is needed before we build more powerplants to keep up with power usage and EV.
@stevenreedwebercooks3 жыл бұрын
Variable Speed Pool Pumps do not save you money. A centrifugal pump operating at a lower RPM requires more energy not less energy and has to work harder to move the same two galleons of water as a single speed pump running at its best efficiency point. The variable speed pool pumps will in the long term cost you more money because its not as energy efficient. If you need to push water 60 feet, and the lowest % of speed required is 80%, then you only have 20% of wiggle room for your pump to vary its speed. It's a scam by the pool pump industry and the power companies to get you to install a way oversized pump that you do not need.

Don't use a 90 plumbing fitting on a pool pump. Also pvc primer / cleaner isn't necessary on pvc fitting under 2in. Speaking as a Florida irrigation installer
