The sliding door will smash that plastic window if its open and the owner forgets. I almost did exactly that on mine... a piece of radiator hose jammed into the door track works a treat !

Like the both of you, we have considered the plus and negatives between factory built vans by main manufacturers compared to examples of vans made by this cottage industry of personalised and individual vans. Have to say, the workmanship appears first class from your video and the couple that made this should be proud; very impressive. Regardless of choices people make, there are components of this van, that would have a great after-market interest, certainly from the likes of us, if we could add to a manufactured factory built van, such as spare wheel (really don’t buy into Fiat/Citroen/Peugoet Van inflation kits for emergency puncture situations) and the outside box storage on the rear. Expect the issue, is factory manufactured vans come with bulbous windows, that creates an issue how these racks are attached to the rear van doors. Additionally, by doing so, you would legally need to up-plate the vans weight carriage to remain legal. The one issue with manufactured factory built vans, is storage for outside items (electric cable, wheel ramps/chocks, awning pegs) that you want to gain access easily, during inclement weather conditions, without opening side or rear van doors; as well as storage when packing-up in wet, windy and muddy conditions, that is not transferred into the van. This is why the outside boxes are a must, when sadly manufactured factory built vans continue in the main not to cover off on this real world situation. The roof rack and lights, again a personal choice of like/dislike, is a compromise between ‘the look’, it’s real world use that I question unless on an expedition and the sound noises caused, along with fuel economy lowering when in transit. Same as the tyres, again personal choice, between road breaking safety, amount of off road use and for many that don’t go off road (Other than look/image), summer and winter tyres sets would be safer for all riding onboard when in transit. But, if your stop-overs are in winter conditions in grass fields or off-road pull-ins when legal (Bigger issue than people realise in UK, especially with insurance of the vehicle and it’s occupants), then these type of tyres are a consideration. Though these tyres again do add road noise and increase fuel consumption. There is not a right or wrong arguably (Other than a safety discussion and choice) and looks the part, even if majority of drivers have no training or experience to take such vehicles off road! Thank you once again for a kind, informative review of the owners van.

Thanks very much for the comment. It is a really well finished van and felt nice and comfortable inside. You're absolutely spot on with regard to the storage and having somewhere outside to put things like chocks and cables to save bringing them inside and getting things messed up. As you mention regarding weight, for most under 3.5t vans, there's very limited scope to add too much without up-plating - certainly anything substantive as most have such a limited payload. Thanks again for the thoughts - there is so much to consider with any van, either manufactured, built for you or if you build yourself. All the very best, David & Rachel 👍

The paintwork is epic! Love the colour. Love the finishing touches both internally & externally. Love the idea of being able to make it as we want it. We are going to the NEC in October to see if there is anything we have missed but this van is by far the best so far. Rod is a lovely bloke too David & Rachel

Wow what an amazing conversion he’s done an amazing job and the quality of the materials and finish as well I think Rachel was over the moon! I can see why you did though loved the design and colour scheme Maybe the way to go is to have a custom van and tailor it how you want it? All the best to you both as ever Daniel

Morning Daniel I really liked it as you spotted! I am beginning to think it may be the way forward. It was just so different to any I have seen. That coupled with Rods attention to detail really blew me away! We are going to Harrogate show and the NEC for another sanity check though as it’s a huge decision 🚐💗💗 Rachel & David

Hi David Rachel and Roxy. This is the second time we've watched this vlog that's devotion for you. Yes we can see you in a van conversion just like that. We've been to the big town where you're father sells his tomatoes (Won't mention the town in case he gets mobbed😂. Hope you got planning permission for that big project job done well. He was telling us about the decking projects. We had a good crack I asked if you were at Harrogate this weekend he didn't know. Yorkshire caravan exhibition? Why don't you fill the bottom of the planter with rubble then you won't need so much top soil. Just a suggestion. tell me to keep my nose out I don't mind . Any way till next time Tek care. Malcolm and Sheila from Workington.

Have you thought of the VW680's or the MAN conversions?
@LeisureBit3 ай бұрын
I’ve been looking at the MAN and also the Mercedes (all be it the Mercedes is potentially too narrow) as well as the Fiat / Citroen / Peugeot derivatives. I do like the choice of customisations on the MAN vans. Still locking in on base vehicle and options (at quote for vehicle stage) - thanks for the suggestion. All the best, David 👍

No you can't control what you want to spend when you ask for all that gadgets and quality finish. If you got money limit then you should buy old cheap shit not ask custom job to be done for you.
@LeisureBitАй бұрын
Not sure exactly on your point but custom gives options you may not get normally
@broskis80Ай бұрын
@@LeisureBit not realy. No 1 would cut on his labour coz you want this or that table but 2x cheaper 🤣😂 You can have piece of " square plywood " if you want it cheaper but for sure not same quality finished table. Next thing is when "custom" job goes and you stop the team to make changes they stood there reserved for your build only and you still pay hours when waiting so again you not saving any money.
@LeisureBitАй бұрын
Fair enough on labour but I was thinking opposite where you can fit better equipment rather than cheaper stuff and it same effort same cost but better van with exactly what you want - Cost for labour depends on what you want of course and how much work as you say
