CITROEN SM 1973 MR. ELLWOOD. MECHANIC RESTORATION PART 8. OLDTIMER CARS.

This Citroën SM use to work properlly, just a few leaks and ignition issue. The owner send me his car to remove everything in the engine bay and do what it must be done. The SM have been restored in a high level, body, inside, with many upgrades (restomood). The owner wants the mecanic brand new looking.

I am amazed at the quality work you have done , would you be wiling to share what this restoration costs? I had an ID-19 that I had to sell because I couldn't find anyone to work on it. I really miss the Citroen!

@@othellodj9557 Thank you so much. I got my SM newly built up from pieces by a really good workshop, but unfortunately it’s quite far from my home. I’m willing to understand the car more so I may be able to touch some pieces of it without fear. In our days, we know how to make the SM very reliable.... That^s not a trouble now. Of course it cost a lot.

fantastic resto, with one deadly flaw, the key to longevity in this engine is heat management those bloody awful pancake air filters are the absolute kiss of death sucking hot hot air , they will kill it if it is driven hard, my dad had a resto shop and a SM came in with these air filters on , to prove how bad they were he took the customer for a spirited drive on a hot day when they got back he cracked an egg on the hood above the carbs , it fried the egg pronto , my dad had many SMs and drove them hard for many years but always went to great lengths to keep it as cool as possible under the hood wrapped exhausts and many little mods to cool the engine its absolutely VITAL please be careful with this rolling work of art please . also the distributor is a constant source of problems we tried everything , nothing worked , so we always ended up with a solid state set up wich was a 1000 % better , it helped alot with heat because the fuel is igniting when it should all the hot start problems ceased to exist .Underhood heat has destroyed many SMs

You are right for the air filter. But the owner wants them absolutley. The car is located in the north of France. He shall see. For the ignbition, the 123Ignition new production gives us no issue. 15 years ago, we had nothing but trouble with them. But now they redesign it and it seems to be OKAY.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they even want to slow down all the gas pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. "Bundesabgasbespaßungsverbot" in German!

Wrong, until 2050 combustion cars can run in EU. And collector cars will not be banish. But only real collector cars like SM for example and many others... No worries.
