I leave the tail high if it's high. It gives you more wiggle room with the dolly if you need it. After the dolly is hooked to your lead and you're ready to push it back, then lower your kite. I like to lower it until it's touching the fifth wheel. That removes the possibility of a high hook and you have a little extra room if you need it.
@theblackstallion49122 жыл бұрын
Thanks I’d never want to high hook a kite, that would suck

what I do is hold the glad hand from dolly to the lead trailer on the bottom then push up . if you still cant get it. finish hooking and leave blue line off then go to shop.

Thanks for the advice. I will keep that in mind next time however this was a Saturday morning and the overnight shop guys left already. My only option was to switch the dolly out. But I welcome all the help, need it for when I get to the road.

I always wondered how those wiggle wagons were hooked together! One connection is for air and the other is for electric, what's the third connection for?
@theblackstallion49122 жыл бұрын
Blue line is the service brake or brake pedal if you will. It supplies air to the system so that you can stop the vehicle while in motion. The green is your electric lines, lights abs system etc. red is emergency brake line. It supplies air to trailer tanks constantly and if there is a loss of air pressure it activates the brakes.

@@TheLTLtrucker_BigMike most drivers are dock trained. For the city guys we don’t really touch the dock unless they’re short or we need to do something with a trailer. @HEY ARNOLD GOT A FOOTBALL HEAD I've been driving trucks for 4 years. I do want to learn the dock side of things too though.
@hurt17042 жыл бұрын
I’d wait and apply. You have to be at the starting location for 6 months to a year I believe before transferring. I’m a new road driver for them so maybe one of these more senior guys can chime in. Don’t be afraid to apply for a freight handler part time. It guarantees you getting in and as soon as an opening for the road or city is available, you apply internally. It’s hard to get on when on the outside.
@truckinfool35502 жыл бұрын
I don’t know about any time requirement before transfer, but a transfer always puts you at the bottom of the bid list seniority. I transferred at 3 years and again at 8 years. That was 9 years ago, and I’m now number one on the city board.
@truckinfool35502 жыл бұрын
You lose bid seniority, but you do keep your company seniority if layoffs ever happen again like in ‘09.
