The mechanic always chooses a luxury available in the world that you do not have. Therefore, it punishes people who collect luxuries. The secret is to trade away all the luxuries you can and only get the ones that people demand back for a little while. Makes total sense. Then everyone just demands cloves and Jakarta is stingy, so you're screwed for the rest of the game.

Historically speaking the term "King" was used as a term for the ruling monarch and was originally gender neutral despite being mostly used by males. There have been several instances of royal females taking on the title of King but as far as I know no male rulers called themselves Queens. Being a spouse of a ruler with royal blood doesn't give you the rights to the monarchy. A good example of this would be the British monarchy where Queen Elizabeth's husband who is still considered a "Prince" in his nineties is waaaaay down the line for royal succession.
