It really depends who it spawns next to you. It spawned Gorgo and Mvembe next to me, which means I was constantly fighting a losing battle all the way up until the modern era where I finally managed to counter Kongo's boosted troops and conquer a couple of cities to rock him onto his back foot, by which time I was actually behind the Greeks on the space rush. Still winnable - Gorgo got the first satellite, but I did a population rush and builder spam and still got the win - but there was never an opportunity for a full war footing strategy.

Agree with you that in Domination games it is usually better to just conquer Wonders rather than build them. However, there are a few Wonders that are exceptionally powerful for Babylon and are worth building yourself: 1.The Great Library. Receives boost to all Ancient and Classical era technologies. Receive a random tech boost after another player recruits a Great Scientist. This results in a lot of free technologies for Babylon. 2. Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. The extra Great Engineer charges are always welcome, but for Babylon this one allows Leonardo Da Vinci to provide 2 free Modern Era technologies rather than 1. 3. Ruhr Valley. Provides a ton of production which helps produce those high tech units. Also, by building it you will get the Eureka for Flight. You will also likely unlock it early. Yes, I see that you are building this one. 4. Oxford University. Yes, I know that you hate it. But the two free technologies are really powerful. Especially, because it usually arrives right when you are unlocking the Modern Era and Atomic Era techs.

Fun fact, if you shift enter every turn after the first 3 techs, you can pool up science indefinitely. Its annoying to do, but very powerful. By the time you're at late game techs you can have enough unspent science sitting around to 1-turn maybe 2/3rds of the future era.

A tip for Babylon is to build more commercial hubs and habours than you normally would. Building those advanced units with production takes too long, but if you get enough gold to do a timing push you can just steamroll the whole map.

I think the Babylon free techs being restricted to the era the world is currently in (and just give 50% boost for other eras) would make them still great fun to play, and keep the gimmick, but a bit more reasonable. Theyre just so ludicrously OP.
@figa55675 ай бұрын
Another option would be that the tech gets boosted by 50% and you can hard research it, or wait for the era to tick over. Once it ticks over, any techs you have boosted will automatically unlock for that era. Probably still too broken if implemented in this way though, it just means you have to wait a little bit before getting the thing you want.

I feel like you just aren't focusing enough on a particular unit. Babylon gets its first big power spike from getting a unit no one else has and upgrading a big batch of existing units into them. MAA/muskets, pikemen, rangers, crossbows are all good options. I thought you were going for a MAA/Musket rush with your initial unit production, but you threw a lot of those units away for little gain. If I were on the map and had your start, I'd try for MAA, then seeing the lack of iron, tried to get Muskets with Mercenaries before rolling Maya.

The Mayan has a few bonuses that make them tough to conquer: - *Lady Six Sky's* ability: _"Ix Mutal Ajaw"_ grants +5 Combat Strength to all her units within 6 tiles of her Capital city. - The *Hul'Che* is a unique Archer with an extra +3 Combat Strength (25 → 28) that enjoy +5 Ranged Strength against wounded opponent (just like Tomyris' ability). In short, Ursa has to deal with 33 Ranged Strength unique Archer, that goes to 38 against wounded units. Basically, it is almost like dealing with *Crossbowmen* in the ancient era.

I found a mod that adds Robot Revolution as a scenario but it would be nice to have an official archive :(

I agree that -50% science is painful, but i still think laboratories at medieval era are enough to win science game before anyone even opens laboratories
@Clemehl5 ай бұрын
-50% Science is a double-edge sword. As it is a "per city" malus, any subsequent percentage based bonus/malus are made stronger. For example: Unhappy (-20% yield) vs Happy (+10%) on a 100 Science city. - Unhappy (-20%) put the city at -70% (-50% + -20%). So the Science goes from 100 to 60, which is -40% overall (100 being 50% of 200). - Happy (+10%) put the city at -40% (-50% + +10%). So the Science goes from 100 to 120, which is +20% overall. If you are not careful about your Amenity and go all the way to -7 Amenities, you will face a -40% malus, putting all cities to -90% Science. Basically, yielding almost no Science at all. Really, you really have to focus on Amenity and many bonuses that increases Science in percentage on city calculation. Like Kilwa Kisiwani, Amundsen-Scott Research Station or Taruga City State. I don't know about Geneva though (is it a global or per city bonus?).
@chinmayhejmadi79024 ай бұрын
@@Clemehl I'm confused, why does -70% of 100 become 60 instead of 30 (or 40, if we apply the maluses separately, -50% first, -20% after that)
@Clemehl4 ай бұрын
@@chinmayhejmadi7902 It is because the starting Science is 200, which is reduced to 100 with the initial -50% modifier. So you would think -20% would apply to that 100, so you will have 80 Science, but it is not. It is not -50% then -20%. The -20% applies additionally on the -50% (therefore -70%) on the 200 starting Science, which remove 140 Science and leave only 60 Science. It demonstrate that modifier are twice as powerful on Science with Babylon. So we have to be careful about it.
