The Foldis looks great, but your MBK EWC is superb. I think Kizer made a Mini Sheepdog available as a double detent and it’s a little finger guillotine if you aren’t careful but people have said it’s action for a double detent is one of the best ever made… Thanks for the video JB.

I bought the copper version. Unfortunately it's not something I can use for anything but opening mail because it closes so easily. It looks nice on my desk though. I took the pocket clip off and now it's just a letter opener. 😅🤷🔪✉️

Pretty little tool, love the wire clip and left carry option. only thing is the light detent when open, i really would like to see a stronger detent or a linerlock. The Laconico design has the nice straight tang to put your finger on, so it won't shut on you as easily. Thank you JB.

Yeah it’s a really clean and classy design; the catch 22 there is that as a double detent it gives it NOTHING to stop the blade from hitting your finger. Same issue with the Civivi Stylum; looks nice but it’s an inherently dangerous design for even the most minor, gentle use (one tiny mistake and you’re bleeding!). The fact that they’re on bearings to give them good action is what really makes this an issue vs a real slipjoint which will be fighting against the backspring in a more predictable way. I own a few double detent knives that have either a flipper or a forward finger choil, and either of these features serves perfectly to prevent the knife from closing on your finger. That’s the only circumstance under which I will use a DD knife. I understand that this knife is designed to make it carryable in countries with absolutely idiotic laws…but I thankfully don’t live in those countries, so I have no reason to buy an ouchie danger knife like this.

@@BigRedEDC haha imo it’s not really even recommendable for light duty use. I wouldn’t hand it to a friend to open a letter with, at least without giving them a serious warning about it. As for me yeah I can use it safely, but I have a lot of experience using knives; still I would be mentally reminding myself to be very cautious, because sometimes you’re pushing through material and you make a slight move backwards to adjust the blade angle and the thing might try to close. Someone who doesn’t know how to react when that happens could end up cutting themselves. I’ve seen it happen with a SAK several times, and this style of knife is even more of a danger. Now, is it a deep cut? Does it need stitches? Eh, probably not…but why take the chance?

I’ve stepped back from the budget world a little bit, but I’m thinking about this. I have an old DD mini sheepdog, and tuned it just right to close with one finger tap! I’m getting one. Just don’t know if I’m going with the copper or the brown. It’s 20 less for the micarta and civivi did a really good job with the tougher side of their micarta. Also, late in the game, but been loving the laconico stuff too. East on the eyes in a crown, yet built beautifully.

Why worry about the detent breaking? I don't push on the back of the blade when not cutting. The Foldis (copper) is the favorite from Civivi at the moment for me.
