Happy Thanksgiving from Canada to the US! I know it's a few days early, but I wanted to show everyone how easy it is to make a turkey using Char-Broil's Big Easy Oiless Turkey Fryer.
With a Butterball turkey, the prep is pretty simple. No seasoning, no brining needed. It's all been done.
It only took about 2 - 2.5 hours to get a crispy, juicy turkey, that will provide leftovers for days to come!

I'd rather have this than an electric or original turkey fryer. It may take the turkey much longer to cook, but it saves you money from having to buy peanut oil so much, which is very expensive. Also easy clean up.

@GreyCountyGrillin

I can't imagine it being a good smoker. It's way too hot for any wood to smolder properly. If you're putting wet wood in it, what you're seeing is the steam from the water and not smoke.

Would you advise tying the wings tips to the body of the bird with baker's string to prevent them from being over-done? Also, I'm pretty sure your formula is: No lid until the bird reaches breast temperature of 140 degrees f. Put the lid on. Then put the lid on and pull the bird out at 165 degrees. How do you get the turkey out of the cage and how is this different from oven roasting?
@GreyCountyGrillin
@GreyCountyGrillin 5 жыл бұрын
There's no real special trick to getting the turkey out from the basket. You just kinda dump it out onto your cutting board, or onto a baking sheet. As for how it's different than over roasting. It cooks using infrared heat. There's a burner at the bottom of the cooker, and that heats up the stainless steel sleeve inside. It cooks a lot faster than in an oven as well, and you always get a juicy inside and crispy outside. There is also a drip tray at the bottom, where the drippings are easy stored for making gravy afterwards. Hope that helps!

The lid reflects the heat back down and can cause the skin to cook too fast. I've seen lots of videos where some kept the lid on the entire time and the skin was burnt. The only exception to this is if it is cold and windy outside. The lid will help retain heat.

It might not have ignited properly and it was cooking at a really low temp. When you start it up, it should be quite hot inside the cooker within a few seconds. Also, you can look down one of the holes at the top and should see the flames from the burner. If not, turn it off and try reigniting. Hope this helps!

Took 3 hrs and still raw. I usually do two birds with oil fryer, however, this one never cooked. Tried the second one that was 1/2 baked in oven due to time constraints and took it another two hours to get a reading of 165. The main tip I can give is to make sure it ignites properly. I've had a couple times where I only get a half ignition and it doesn't get real hot.
