How do you get the turkey out of the cage and how is this different from oven roasting?
@GreyCountyGrillin6 жыл бұрын
There's no real special trick to getting the turkey out from the basket. You just kinda dump it out onto your cutting board, or onto a baking sheet. As for how it's different than over roasting. It cooks using infrared heat. There's a burner at the bottom of the cooker, and that heats up the stainless steel sleeve inside. It cooks a lot faster than in an oven as well, and you always get a juicy inside and crispy outside. There is also a drip tray at the bottom, where the drippings are easy stored for making gravy afterwards. Hope that helps!
@ashathor92696 жыл бұрын
my thought is to put the lid on first to crisp the skin and seal the juices in then remove the lid for the rest of cooking. wdyt
@GreyCountyGrillin6 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing you could do that, however, sealing in the juices for anything is just a myth. If you did it that way and cooked the turkey to 200F it'll still be dry.

@GreyCountyGrillin4 жыл бұрын
Not as crispy as if deep fried, bit pretty darn close!
@johnphillips61814 жыл бұрын
I use to deep fry and bought one of these about 6 years ago. You can't beat the easiness of this and it does taste pretty much like deep fried. We do the the cajun seasoning recipe every year. I love not having to deal with the oil, cleanup, and the danger involved with deep frying.

@GreyCountyGrillin5 жыл бұрын
The main tip I can give is to make sure it ignites properly. I've had a couple times where I only get a half ignition and it doesn't get real hot. Just shit it down and start it up again and it should be fine. The lid is only used in a few situations. When you're crisping the skin of the turkey, or it the ambient temp is pretty cold.

So is this not just an oven??
@GreyCountyGrillin6 жыл бұрын
I mean, in the same sense that they both cook food using heat, then sure, it's an oven. But it cooks using a completely different method. It cooks using infrared heat. The big easy can cook a turkey in 2.5 hours. You'll never get that with an oven without drying the the meat out completely or horribly under cooking it. This method also gives you a very crispy skin with a juicy inside.

Help. I just cooked a 7 lb chciken to see how it works before Thanks giving and it took over two hrs. When I cut into it it was still raw in the middle. It was not frozen, outside temp was 60F. Any Ideas. I do not want to ruin Thanksgiving and afraid it will take 4-5 hrs to cook. Any ideas cause the 10 minutes per LB did not come close. It was 18 minutes per LB and still raw
@GreyCountyGrillin6 жыл бұрын
It might not have ignited properly and it was cooking at a really low temp. When you start it up, it should be quite hot inside the cooker within a few seconds. Also, you can look down one of the holes at the top and should see the flames from the burner. If not, turn it off and try reigniting. Hope this helps!
@billmills12966 жыл бұрын
Make sure propane tank'is turned completely on and there are no obstructions to the burners.

Mine did the same thing on Thanksgiving. Not sure if they started using a new manufacturer or what, but did everything to a T and still raw on inside. 13 lb bird, leg down like instructions, new propane tank(even leak tested). Took 3 hrs and still raw. I usually do two birds with oil fryer, however, this one never cooked. Tried the second one that was 1/2 baked in oven due to time constraints and took it another two hours to get a reading of 165. Crazy this little thing is going to be hauled away on next trash day, thanks Char Broil. Oh ya and it was lit could see the flames. Also tried a second propane tank to make sure that wasn't the cause...IT wasnt
@GreyCountyGrillin6 жыл бұрын
That sucks dude. I dunno what to tell you. Maybe give Char broil a call and see what they have to say. It still could have been the false ignition. When they happens there is still a flame, but it's only 1/4 or 1/3 flame.

I always wrap the turkey completely with non-stick aluminum foil so the skin does NOT burn while cooking in the Big Easy Cooker!

@@GreyCountyGrillin I do keep the lid on the entire time!
@GreyCountyGrillin5 жыл бұрын
If you've got the standard Big Easy, only put the kid on towards the end of a cook to crisp up the skin. Or, if the ambient temp is quite low. That's why your skin is burning. If you keep the lid off, I guarantee you won't burn the skin.

@@GreyCountyGrillin I own the "older" & larger Big Easy. I always cook the largest & heaviest turkey I can find! Over 20 pounds plus. But if I do leave the lid off, I will burn more LP gas! With the lid on it seems to cook "faster". But I will use your advice Thanks! ;- )
