@09thespecialone4 жыл бұрын
Yes. The jerk is 90% lower body movement. You jump ''under'' the bar actually. In the press, you press the bar overhead only with shoulders and arms (much more difficult).

5 years later I can push press 110kg so how much should I be be able to jerk if technique is good? Seems like not much more?
@o-neil Жыл бұрын
@@Lee-ic2ynit's so individual. Klokov push pressed 225 and jerked 250 which is just 110%. Ilya ilyin push pressed just 180, yet could still jerk 250, which is 140%. My ratio is 125%. So basically if you were like klokov you could jerk 122.5, but if you were like Ilya you could jerk 155.
@JohnSmith-mf7nl6 жыл бұрын
There is a misconception about things being harder for tall people, it has nothing to do with being tall or short. It's all about the ratios of your limbs to your body. Long Arms(especially forearms, ratio should be 1:1, Vitruvian Man) and long femurs are not ideal for weightlifting/Power Lifting in general. But a 5"3 (160cm) Person with a long Femur to Body Ratio, lets say 0.34(avg is 0.26) and long arms has the same problems that you have in the squat. It also gets more complicated. Zack and Clarence have you ever measured your Femur ratio and Wingspan?
@aminazik48176 жыл бұрын
John Smith taller people still have higher chances of having out of ratio long legs.
@JohnSmith-mf7nl6 жыл бұрын
I never seen any study towards this, only with races. Google Hicham El Guerrouj he is only 5"9 (175) and has absurdly long legs. Bascically all runners have long legs. i.pinimg.com/originals/43/27/61/432761373a3933e6e87bd82701b58286.jpg

Imo we need more power and weight lifting activities in school. If we made it a club or a sport the same way we did Swimming, Wrestling, or Track America would actually have a killer weight lifting team. And the thing too, it would be easier for kids to transition into a sport. When you have little Timmy who played weight lifting freshman and sophomore year that wants to try out for the football or wrestling team junior year with the 315 front squat and a 200 something clean and press it’ll be a lot easier for him to compete with some of the gorillas you’d find in those sports. Man, if every kid just lifted before doing sports they’d be better right off the bat. My inner Mark Rieopetoe is coming out, but the easiest thing you can do to become a better athlete is to simply get stronger.

i'm not 100% ok with swimming being low impact, sure if you have proper technique it's going to be fine but very few peoples have actual "correct" technique, i mean correct as in "wont create shoulder impingement" in the short term. So if you are going to be swimming 1 to 2 times a week it's going to be fine but if you really want to get into it it's definitly NOT low impact.

Would olympic weightlifting be good to get into if you are struggling to make gains on bodybuilding programs ? My max deadlift is 300lbs, max squat 225 and max bench 180. I also have alot of muscle imbalances. Also got hyper mobile elbows
@JobeCourtney6 жыл бұрын
Depends on your goals. If you want to build muscle a ton of muscle, probably not. If you want to bench more, probably not. If you want to snatch, squat, c&j more then perhaps. You will definitely have to work on fixing muscle imbalances and immobilities to make progress no mater what you do, so start with that.
@vilhelmkron74556 жыл бұрын
Jobe Courtney but clarence has a shitton of muscle, he is jacked as hell and benches squats and deadlifts ALOT
@JobeCourtney6 жыл бұрын
He also trains for those things. He doesn’t train Olympic lifting exclusively. He does a mixture of different kinds of lifting and he is a freak of nature to go along with that.
@vilhelmkron74556 жыл бұрын
Jobe Courtney i wanna do a mixture aswell, but no matter what i do i dont progress. Tried lifting full body 5 days a week with 5000 calories a day made small amount of gains. Did push pull legs. Upper lower. Full body 2 times a week. Nothing works. Currently doing alphadestinys novice program 3 days a week. But im going nowhere and it kills me because ive lifted for 2.5 years and im still weak.
@JobeCourtney6 жыл бұрын
Vilhelm Kron what kinds of exercises are you doing? If you’re doing mostly machines or “accessory work” with dumbbells you’re obviously not going to make much progress. Do some research, write a program tailored to your goals based on periodization, or find a coach/trainer to help you out. Focus on what you want to get stronger. If you want to squat/deadlift more then you will likely have to decrease time spent on upper body work and vice versa with bench. However, I would not recommend incorporating Olympic lifting into your program if you do not want to spend a large majority of your time on developing proper technique and mobility. Also Olympic lifting doesn’t really seem like it is what you’re going after, if you just want your squat, bench, and deadlift to go up while building some muscle... I would look for a football weight training program as that is what those types of programs are usually geared towards.
