THIS is Superman. He gives the person a chance, even though he knows it probably won't be taken. He ends it as quickly and with as little violence as possible. Even in this circumstance where he's seething with a father and husband's rage, he shows mercy. Then, when he's done with doing what he had to do; which STILL ended in him giving a chance to someone who many would say didn't deserve it by letting him leave on his own volition; Clark apologizes to the patrons if he has ruined their night then apologizes sincerely to the daughter and through his actions assures her she's not at blame at all by letting her come check on his son. Then he and his wife, LOIS DAMN LANE, offer her kindness in a time of need and are glad to do so. Superman how we like it.

Most incarnations of Jonathan Kent embodied the values that American culture espouses but rarely lives up to: honesty, humility, fairness, compassion, standing up for what's right. The thing I really love about this scene is how it’s all really in character for Clark. People in town know him as a nice, kinda goofy guy who was raised right by the Kents, and is always ready to help anyone who needs it. Then they see a reasonable family man come in with controlled rage on his face, confronting a local jerk. Even then Clark stays polite, tries to get him to go outside, doesn’t escalate after a punch gets thrown- given their physiques and how Clark lives and works a farm, he could be reasonably assumed to handle this guy without any superpowers. Then, and only then, does Clark let him up. After the town saw him get humiliated by who they know as s decent man, who even apologized for interrupting their night. No wonder he told Lois Superman wasn’t going. Clark Kent handled this great just by being himself.

Loved this scene shows how good of a man Clark is and how much restraint he really has to show most men would beat the crap out of someone else for hitting their son and pulling a gun on their wife but Clark can’t do that or he’ll kill him so he just has to talk and use maybe 1% of his strength just shows how hard being Superman can be yeah it would be nice to have his powers but what happens in a situation like this where if you let your anger go to far you will easily kill somebody I love that this show really shows that struggle how being Superman isn’t all great

Not just Clark. Don't under-estimate ANYBODY; you really just never know which of them will be your end. Don't purposely piss off anybody, whether you THINK you can take them in a fight or not. It is not that difficult to be nice. You should have learned how to play well with others by the time you were out of Pre-School. Remember that? You should remember that. The Golden Rule always applies. Treat people the way you want them to treat you. If you treat them like dirt or lower, you do not get to act like the victim when they start treating you the same way.

One thing I’d like to point out, Superman lives in a world made of eggshells, glass paper machete and my self esteem. The amount of control he has to exert when just opening a door is already beyond human comprehension. Now imagine this, this man’s family was attacked. It’s hard to stay calm. What’s amazing is that A) the counter is still in one piece and B) Candace’s father is still walking. Superman has mastered control of his strength. To the point that he can smash meteors to pieces and at the same time, not break a man’s face.
