Great selection. I was very naive in those days - I used to think the Cadbury Flake ad was about a bar of chocolate!

National Benzole - one of the best and a great piece of music (Frank Cordell / John Mayer). The music on the 'Fore' ad sounds like part of a pop tune by (someone like) Manfred Mann. I'm still trying to ascertain who composed that gorgeous Flake theme heard here. Sunsilk - John Barry gorgeous theme with John Carson doing the voiceover - another great mix of music and commercial. Dusty is superb as always. Another great 'Come Alive - You're in the Pepsi Generation' ad. Not seen this one before - sounds like Lulu - can anybody confirm please? The less said about Lazenby, the better. It's a nice ad but if he hadn't have done this he wouldn't have been James Bond (great!). Great compilation - thanks.

Find the tuneful "Happy Days" "Super National ' ad. from ca. 1961/62, sung by Elton Hayes ("there's never,never,never, nothing at all like super, Super National"). Another good one from '64/'65 was the Hoover ad. using the tune of a U.S. Army march: " all the dirt, all the grit, Hoover gets at every bit, Hoover beats as it sweeps as it cleans (etc.)"

Carson's voice was a James Mason rip-off: he was a t.v. heartthrob back then. Did any episodes of "Emergency(,) Ward 10" not get wiped?

Bloody electioneering detergents ! What ? No Castella ads ? No Heinz ads ? No Guards ciggies ? What region were you living in ? Ah the 1960s, . . . Celulite and the by mouth consumption of chocolate phalli were ideas that dare not mention their names and the option of being seen by a doctor from another planet was just a twinkle in a Conservative Health Minister's eye . . and no extras to pay . . . except in this film.

I would love 2 pounds and a free sp- oh, look, a dead body. And a beaten up and down sponge mop. Mrs Flash is dead. Very great, ha ha ha. 2 modern pounds? I’m skint. I hate Flash. They hire dead people? Mum, why is there a questionable Flash price scene? I’m buying a new home.

Given time, he might have learned to act. Despite his shortcomings, "O.H.M.S.S." was quite good, avoiding much of the runaway idiocy of the Bonds that followed it: it also contains Diana Rigg at her best-looking, before age so sadly withered her.

"I'm a happy knocker-upper" sounds rather suspect too. In the days before everyone had a clock, workers would pay a "knocker-upper" to knock on their door to get them up in time for work each day.
@johnhardman3
@johnhardman3 5 жыл бұрын
@@OofusTwillip Believe it or not, they still existed in the '50s,using a long pole to knock on bedroom-windows: in extremis, if that didn't work, there was the football-fan's rattle which would make enough noise to wake the whole street. I kid you not: some people wouldn't or couldn't invest in an alarm-clock ,hardly an expensive novelty even back then (so way back, now).
