Here in the U.S. you can find many diners, some of them 1950's themed, that still have floats on the menu. Some ice cream shops have them as well.

I love this, when I was a kid I used to have Ice cream floats too. The combination was different though: lime-lemon soda (sprite) and vanilla ice cream.

Haven't had one of these for more than 50 years. You have tempted me now. I used to like lime ones, my sister preferred cherry soda. I've really got the urge to rekindle memories of childhood treats now so will make my old favorite and really fancy trying the root beer version. Have never tried that and I love root beer. Yum.

My dad used to love root beer floats and we made them quite often throughout our lives together. He also liked ice cream sodas which is flavored syrup a couple scoops of ice cream and seltzer water and you mix the seltzer water with the syrup a little bit of it and then put in the ice cream and then top it off with seltzer water and it's all bubbly on top it's very good.

Brought back great memories.Nearly every Coles store had a cafe bar and ice-cream sodas were a great treat on a Saturday morning shopping day. The most popular at our store was lime ice-cream sodas (they were called sodas at that store). Made with the syrup pump, soda gun and vanilla ice-cream scooped from the bin at the counter. mmmmmmm We still make these at our house. Positively love them.

There is an old chain of drive ins in the New Jersey area of the United States (Between New York and Washington D.C, basically.) Where they still sell these. Most of the time, here in the States, if you have ice cream and soda on hand you make an Root Beer Float (Sometimes they are called Ice Cream floats.) But yeah, I make these every now and then. I love how foamy the ice cream makes the soda.

Not sure about the rest of the country, but in the midwest it was RootBeer floats everywhere when I was a kid. I also like vanilla cream soda (never cared for the red stuff myself). My other two favorites are Dr.Pepper with chocolate ice cream and Grapefruit soda with orange sherbert.

In the US, at least northern regions, we drink Root Beer floats. Coke floats are a "exotic" treat (I think Southern states have them a lot) and older diners still serve fruity (Creaming soda) floats. My grandma loved Cherry floats. Brings back nostalgic memories for sure! Great video! ^_^

this is so cute! On another note, David, I made an attempt to make mac n cheese yesterday, I used actual shredded cheddar cheese for the sauce, and it turned out grainy and awkward! it was more like tiny curdles in the finishing dish, i googled the issue and it turned out that i needed to use manufactured processed cheese, in the US they have something called Valveeta, which we don't have in Australia... was wondering what would a good national substitute be and has this happened to you before?

people in america use " root beer '' ( soda ) together they call it " root beer floats '' you should check out on buying a soda maker, a friend of mine has one. You get the syrup ex: grape, you fill the thing up with water and it makes the water carbonated. Its quite fun, ahaha
