Thank you for introducing us to the Train Me Please KZbin channel! I enjoyed Jose’s review on classical vs. operant conditioning and look forward to exploring his offerings. Jose mentioned a vacuum cleaner. I made such a point of classically conditioning my dog to associate vacuuming with treats that he now actively stays glued to a spot near where I’m working, often to the point of being in the way. So I guess he’s “gone operant,” i.e. is using his behavior to cause reinforcement-right? Of course I don’t shower him with treats anymore-I just tell him he’s a good boy as I vacuum all around him. If/when he does move, it’s usually to a spot I haven’t vacuumed yet. :-( Guess I need to change his operant version to mine-namely, “vacuuming” as cue for “in-your-crate” instead. Darn uber-effective classical conditioning! 🙄

Haha! I love this story! Definitely time to teach vacuum means to run to crate! Whip was a bit nervous of the vacuum at first too, and so I paired it with tug. I can't turn a vacuum on without her running in with a toy to engage 😂. Fortunately, we just play a bit of tug while I vacuum and then she goes away and lays down. But I think it's very funny so I don't mind much. No fear of the vacuum anymore! :)

Thank you. Such a fun and interesting description of a dog changing their emotions and later their behaviour towards the vacuum. Cheers.
