This is what makes Iron Maiden so damned good. They create melodies that people can sing too, like anthems. Fear of the Dark, Rime of the ancient mariner, the crowd just sings along, they don't even need prompting, they just do it. It's also not lost on me, that Steve Harris plays chords on his bass to fill the sound... HE'S A MASTER.

@Broccoli_Highkicks8 ай бұрын
It may be acoustic, but there's nothing more metal than having your own creative vision and not letting anyone stop you from boldly pursuing it. Iron Maiden certainly have done that, from starting out at the height of punk's popularity and doing something radically different, to sticking to their creative guns for decades while subtly developing their sound along the way without ever losing their own unique and instantly recognizable voice.

@crisoliveira26448 ай бұрын
The bridge to the chorus in that song is suspiciously similar to Uriah Heep's Sunrise. When Doug started this series, he said he'd probably never pay to see Iron Maiden live. Now he can't wait for an opportunity to go see them live. 🙂 Doug, you'd be the perfect guy to interview Steve Harris. Harris has said in the past "I don't know what is a scale", yet his music is a mix of both clichés and the most unusual stuff. Is it because he doesn't really know what he is doing? There's gotta be more to it than that!
@Keon7537 ай бұрын
By now he has some idea, but honestly Steve has never been much concerned with a scale in that like educated formally sense. The man has always been one who simply would try things, record himself, listen back and be like "I did or didn't like it" and try again. That's how it all started and would continue for most of their careers even to today. Now don't get me wrong some of them have a deeper like classical of fundamental music education than Steve does, however he isn't kidding when he says that.

I didn't care for that album when I first listened to it. I preferred the Brave New World album. But I didn't give the Dance Of Death album enough time to grow on me. Then, as I watched live clips of the songs from the album, I got it. The songs really come alive when you have the energy of an enthusiastic crowd behind them. I reckon they had the idea of what the songs might sound like in front of a live audience in mind when they were working on Dance Of Death and subsequent albums.

@MsCatstaff8 ай бұрын
Agree that Reach Out is one that I'd love to hear Doug's opinion about. However, it's actually not a Maiden song, it was written by Dave Colwell and originally done by the supergroup known as The Entire Population Of Hackney. Born of Nicko McBrain's boredom after the World Slavery Tour ended, and featuring members of Iron Maiden, FM, and Urchin, they played two concerts in December 1985, one under that name, which was recorded and released as a bootleg album, and the other under the name of The Sherman Tankers. Members were: Adrian Smith - lead vocals (tracks 1-6, 8, 10 and 11), lead & rhythm guitars (tracks 1-15) Urchin, Iron Maiden and ASAP, Bruce Dickinson - lead vocals (tracks 13-15) Iron Maiden Andy Barnett - lead vocals (tracks 7 and 9),lead & rhythm guitars, backing vocals (tracks 1-6, 8, 10 and 11) Urchin, Marshall Fury, FM and ASAP Dave Colwell - lead & rhythm guitars, backing vocals (tracks 1-11) 720, FM and ASAP. Dave Murray - lead & rhythm guitars (tracks 12-15) Urchin and Iron Maiden Martin Connoly - bass (tracks 1-11) Marshall Fury Steve Harris - bass (tracks 12-15) Iron Maiden Nicko McBrain - drums (tracks 1-15) Iron Maiden

This is a song that has other versions that were released on singles, including a symphonic version, and an electric version. You should get into some of Bruce's solo material, especially songs from "Accident of Birth", "The Chemical Wedding", and "Tyranny of Souls". I could list individual song suggestions, but there are too many, any random pick would be great. Adrian Smith was with him on the first two. He has an upcoming new album in March called "The Mandrake Project" which has a music video out already. Ah hell with it, here are some of my favorites from those albums: Road to Hell Darkside of Aquarius Man of Sorrows Omega Arc of Space Book of Thel The Tower Jerusalem Kill Devil Hill Navigate the Seas of the Sun

There where some "tight" accidents with thr first barricade line. No harmed people, but some breaks in the barricade. Sadly i was only one time in this hall. 2023 i was for Maiden there, front of stage. But my f**king depression and fear kicked me out. I was alone there, i felt alone, so i left the hall 2 hours before the supportband. I will return, i swear. 🙂

Although being such a huge Maiden's fan for decades, I shall admit it's not any song they release I like, and this is one of them. In fact, to be honest, in my opinion this album - "Dance of Death" - is one of the worst Maiden's albums! Even so, anyone can see their incredible musical skills in this video. I got quite good suggestions of Maiden's songs to react to: songs from the album "Somewhere in time", such a good one, way better than this, and songs which are part of the setlist of Maiden's current tour, the "Future Past World Tour". My favorite ones are: "Alexander the great" and "Somewhere in time". But Iron Maiden has been playing in this world tour some other good songs, as for example "Stranger in a strange land" and "The Prisoner". By the way, my congratulations for one more fine analysis! Up the irons! #uptheirons
