Lanza died on this day, Oct.7th 1959 at age 38, a great voice even if not a great opera singer, he had a very beautiful voice, no matter what anybody says IMO. RIP Mario Lanza 1921-1959.

Lanza could have been an opera singer if he had chosen to do so. In my mind he was the best ever. I was a teenager when he became famous. There has never been anyone like him since. He was simply wonderful.

Yes, he sure had the voice for it, one of the greatest natural voices of all time, but perhaps he chose the best path for him to great fame, it takes more then just voice for the opera, to be and stay on top, that said he had the voice to be one of the greatest of all time in the world of opera. The voice he had for me, IMO was one of the most beautiful of all time.

Bjorling siempre Bjorling. El más bello timbre de voz de tenor, agudos estupendos, línea de canto impecable, técnica tocando la perfección. Único, junto a Caruso y Gigli. A Fleta no lo pongo, porque ese tenor fue sobrehumano, no ha existido voz como la de él.

What a wonderful collection from my three favourite tenors. I was doing miserable housework when this popped up and took me to another dimension, I have become mesmerised by the sheer beauty of their voices. Listening to this for the first, I’m sure it’s not going to be the last. I remember my father reading the newspaper article, announcing the death of Mario Lanza. We were both sad. I’m so grateful that we can still listen to them. Thank you.

Довелось у Ланца послушать что-то из юбилейного, там просто позор в чистом виде, что в Ланца находят, не понимаю, звук неровный, отсюда все остальные вокальные "прелести", у вас чисто личное предпочтение и только. Ланца много слушал Карузо, но не понял у него главного, высокая певческая позиция и контроль звучания, который у него был абсолютно естественным, диктуемым эмоциональной составляющей партии, Ланца, увы, этого не усвоил. А то что проблемы у него были, он и сам понимал, иначе, с чего бы ему было трусить перед рыцарем совершенства?

Чудесная подборка! Пластинку Джильи, купленную мамой в 1988-м (мне было 13), я гоняла то и дело, влюбилась в голос Марио Ланца в 16 лет, Юсси Бьёрлинга открыла для себя совсем недавно, с месяц назад. Все трое прекрасны, но по эмоциональности, прочувствованности и темпераменту всё ж отдаю первое место Марио Ланца, моему драгоценному огненному Марио! Спасибо за доставленное удовольствие!

Mário Lanza foi genial porém não mais do que Franco Corelli. Ambos nasceram em 1921, ano do falecimento de Enrico Caruso. Corelli tinha uma extensão de voz incomparável e uma capacidade de respiração inigualável.

Mario Lanza was one of the GREATEST opera singing tenors ever! He sang two performances in Madama Butterfy at the New Orleans Opera in May 1948. Before that, he made his opera debut as Fenton in Otto Nicolai's The Merry Wives of Windsor (in English) at the Berkshire Music Festival in Tanglewood on August 7, 1942. The question isn't how many stage performances make an opera singer? None of us have heard most of the opera singers in this video in live performances so the only way to compare their voices is through the records that the have made for us to enjoy. Lanza's voice still stands out far above all of the other recorded tenors. LANZA IS THE GREATEST.

Юсси Бьорлинг, великий тенор, с удивительно красивым голосом, у нас называют такой - лирический тенор. К сожалению в России мы мало о нем слышали, его затмили у нас другие известные имена. Но сегодня в сети полно его записей и можно часами наслаждаться его чарующим голосом.

Великие - это Франко Корелли, Джузеппе Ди Стефано, Марио Дель Монако,а Бьёрлинг один из теноров, которым не повезло петь в расцвете бельканто в Италии. Причём, если Вы послушаете Юси до стажировки в Италии, и после, то как говорят в Одессе, две большие разницы. Кстати лучший голос ХХ века по мнению легендарного Тосканини- Марио Ланца, хотя судьба не дала ему шанса спеть в Ла Скала

I’ve said it before, Lanza was out of this league,. He needed microphone to be heard. Gigli and Bjoerling could flll the Met with their voices without a mike. They did not have very powerful voices but could project it to the most distant seats. Mario Lanza could not sing opera. He tried concerts but could not be heard beyond the fourth line of seats.

There haven’t been such Three contemporary great tenors as Gigli, Bjorling and Lanza. They were indeed like three Angels each with his characteristic. May I say, Lanza is like Michael, Gigli like Gabriel and Bjorling the loving Seraphim! I love all three and all three were of the Bel Canto school.

A date Correction for the information above about Lanza . The first movie film he made "the Midnight Kiss" was from 1948 (not 1949) yes, the Toast of New Orleans was from 1950, I saw it that year at age 10!! The opera Butterfly where he sang the complete role of Pinkerton twice in New Orleans, was in 1948 at age 27, Lanza was a semi classical artist, with a naturally beautiful voice . When your talking about Bjoerling and Gigli your talking about two of the greatest operatic tenors in their time in major world opera houses.
