Great lap. Thanks for showing me where are the braking points and proper racing lines. Now I will use this newfound knowledge at Assetto Corsa.

That 2:15.7 is excellent, the Road legal production car lap record at COTA is 2:17.49 McLaren P1. Yes, it's a legal production car but nevertheless the effort that most of gone into putting that lap and resources. You should be proud of your our lap. I have a BMW S1000RR track bike and I going to really try to get a good lap in July. I've been at COTA 3 times but didn't use a timer and have no reliable video but if I can lap under 2:30 I'll be really stoked.

+Juris S. Žagars Thanks! It was my first time at the track and theres probably a couple more seconds there but I was very happy to be in the 15s. The P1 must have hit some insane speeds on the straight!

Really fast and great driving. One thing I noticed was seat moves around a lot; but its hard for me to tell is the seat moving or just the containment section of halo flexing. Something i'll be sure to check when i'm done building my setup.

Isn't the longitudinal G-meter reversed? It's going down when braking. Anyway, outstanding laps, even more being done in a manual. I did a 2:31.5 in an AMG GT-R (during the AMG Academy), but nowhere near the level of skill shown in this video. It's much bumpier nowadays: T2-3, T9-10, T17-18, so there's my disclaimer for going 6s slower than the instructor in 2018. :P

Amazing video. 2.15 is a great time!! Is this engine based on the regular gt3? What are the differences? The high revs are amazing.
@claykos
@claykos 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. It is basically the same as a regular gt3 engine in principle, but most of the parts inside are different. Big solid lifter cams, big titanium valves, individual throttle bodies, high compression pistons, etc.

Reminds me of my lawn tractor where the only way to drive a straight line is to keep pointing it back to where you mean to be going. In the lawn tractor's case, I think the bushings and bearing are the problem. I have to wonder if his technique just reflects a lot of familiarity with his car. I was pretty perplexed by it at first, but the lap times and lines seemed to support his technique.

+SuLRaC check your facts www.gt3r.com they made a couple in 1999 and then about 50 in 2000. the name then changed to gt3rs in 2001 and rsr in 2004. they brought back the gt3r name with the 997 in 2010.

sulrac. this is a factory racecar, and that is the right name. its a very rare car and the history and lineage is well known to those that follow Porsche race cars , you are not looking very intelligent here.

Impressive driving. However, my inner track geek is crying seeing how much time you're coasting. That right foot needs to be doing something all the time -- throttle, brake, or both, never neither.
@RhodokTribesman
@RhodokTribesman 6 жыл бұрын
Nope. Modulating throttle through a turn is very important, even if it means coasting for a little. Look at Bathrust onboards for example (many of the first turns leading up the mountain require coasting)

jfbeam I’m going to disagree here too. This isn’t a kart. Indoor karting sure, but here you needs to allow the car to carry speed without input and set up for some of these corners. This video is amazing, it looks like the car wants to oversteer so much ALOT! I wonder what can be done about the setup. I personally wouldn’t want to fight it so much on the S’s....
@alexanderwademd
@alexanderwademd 4 жыл бұрын
I'ma disagree here, too. Not because I have better skills, but because there is a separate video of a pro going through this track and he spent a surprising amount of time without brake or throttle applied. My own style is more like the way you describe it, but I am seriously considering if I have been over thinking it and leaving seconds on the track by trying too hard, given the fact that the pro coasted through turns I am usually either braking or hitting the gas (or both). It is such a gift to see other ways of doing things and getting to think about whether it's better or not better, based on the results. jfbeam, try it both ways, and see how it works for you, in your car.
@KansaSCaymanS
@KansaSCaymanS 3 жыл бұрын
There’s a difference between coasting and maintenance throttle, which is needed in parts of turns 3 thru 8, unless maybe you’re in a F1 car, or a Miata. 😉
