Thank you so much for watching this video (and the others, if you have). So many of these comments are so funny and supportive of the video, series, and channel that it's just surreal. I did, however, make an oopsie and say that LeBron was drafted in 2004, when in fact, he was drafted in 2003! Classic me.

Great series Clayton, and while I agree that Kobe Bryant doesn't have a case for GOAT, do you not think that George Mikan has one? 5 time NBA champion, rule changes made in order to stop him, defining the role of the big man, and has the statistics to back him up. I would really be interested in hearing your opinion about it.

@@Mazzawak I know my opinion doesnt matter, I would disagree with Mikan on the grounds that the league is so fundamentally changed since Mikan it would be impossible to view him aw the greatest. Unlike Baseball where the statistics and measurement for greatness has remained virtually unchanged since Babe Ruth started slugging 1.250 and Ty Cobb reached 4,000 hits, basketballs standard for greatness has shifted so far from Mikan's era and even the idea of dominance at the Center position was overtaken by the 3 guys Clayton profiled. From championships with Russell, to stats, accolades and longevity with Kareem to cultural impact with all the above for Jordan and LeBron, Mikan seems like an Oscar Robertson or Hakeem Olajuwon, certainly in the top 25 and you can make an argument for top 10 but doesn't in my eyes fit GOAT but I'd have him in my top 20

I was a Lebron hater when I was younger, I almost hated him as much as I hated Kobe which says a lot, especially as a Spurs fan. However, I realized how wrong I was after Kobe declined and eventually retired, I never enjoyed his run and was genuinely sad to see Kobe leave the game, and that caused me to pivot and learn to appreciate all of the things lebron does. He's the most complete player I think i'll ever see, I hope he can win 2 or 3 more rings before we transition into the next era of basktball.

It is a great series, but I think Bird, Magic, and especially Russel and Duncan all have pretty dubious goat claims. If in any given year, you aren't clearly the best player in the world, how can you be the goat? LeBron probably has the longest continuous reign of best player in the league. 2008-2017 or even until present. Jordan had like 1990-1998 but the last year is fairly dubious and he had a 2 year gap.

I realize this is way too late to be relevant in the conversation, but I was born in 2001. I've watched this series religiously and I decided that I would sit down with my dad and watch this LeBron one. As soon as the Jordan truthers comment came up, I asked him, "Why does LeBron get Jordan truthers so angry when it comes to GOAT conversations?" He simply said, "He's the only real threat." Needless to say, he loved this video and we watched the rest of the series together. You really changed his mind on Tim Duncan ("I never really saw him like that, but yeah, he's underrated") and LeBron to the point where he said that he thinks historically Jordan is 1 and LeBron will retire and 1A. Crazy stuff. Thanks for giving me and the old man a chance to talk about this on a more level playing field!

@dylan9013 No, that's actually a highly flawed way of thinking. In recent years people have gotten too obsessed by "facts and evidence" to the point where they've lost nearly all wisdom, foresight, and common sense. Someone might hypothesize that if we created a national speed limit of 300mph, it would result in more car accidents. These days, someone like you will come along and say "that's not true there's no evidence of that" while seemingly making a laughable attempt at siezing some perceived intellectual high ground. People are so obsessed with "facts and evidence" they would justify buying a used car with advertised "New hood! New front bumper! New radiator! Fresh paint!" simply because they see 4 facts and know that new parts are better than old parts. They can't recognize that the vehicle has been in a wreck because they've lost all common sense. Be aware that you may be starting to lose sight of the forest due to all the trees.

@Sneatt I don't know if Jordan would have gone 6-0 against today's teams. Do you know why? Because I don't know how good he would be at team jumping and creating insta-dynasties, like LeBron. Jordan didn't get to pick and choose his teams, coaches, and teammates. He didn't get to take his talents to South Beach and play on super teams, coming out of weak conferences, yet still lose to underdogs like LeBron. So, yeah, I don't know. He might have gone 8-0 if he had been able to do that.

@@johnjones528 Absolutely not. He was blessed to be drafted to the bulls and have a god team built around him. He was blessed to have a legendary coach like Phil Jackson. He BECAME legendary coaching Jordan. What NBA team did PHil Jackson coach before he signed on with the Bulls? Oh, that's right! He didn't coach in the NBA. He coached the Albany Patroons, the Piratas de Quebradillas (1984 and 1987) and the Gallitos de Isabela (1984-1986). He regularly sought out NBA teams to coach , but was frequently turned down.

So, full disclosure here. I normally don’t entertain a lot of “Lebron is the GOAT” arguments. I roll my eyes at a TON of what Shannon Sharpe says about the guy. However, this video series has garnered a ton of respect with me. It’s one of the few that seems to take a truly fact based, objective, well researched, approach to who is “the GOAT”. Because of that, I watched this video open minded. Clayton, honestly, you have made me reconsider my stance on Lebron. I don’t know that I’d say he definitely WAS the greatest ever, but you showed me that he certainly deserves to be in the conversation. This series is just awesome for how mind opening it is to a topic that most of us don’t really think deeply about.

What a fantastic conclusion to my favorite series on KZbin. I can't even imagine how many times I've gone back and re-watched the other episodes just waiting for this one to drop. Before Making the Case, I'd never have thought to include Tim Duncan in the GOAT conversation. It never occurred to me that Larry Bird was the embodiment of what people mean when they say "intangibles." I never considered that a quiet competitor like Kareem and an iconic, flashy star like Magic could have a claim to the same throne. Or that Bill Russell, who I only knew as the guy with 11 rings, could represent what it means to play team basketball. What surprised me most was when I found myself most convinced that Wilt Chamberlain, who I once saw as overrated and stat-obsessed, was the greatest to ever do it. Or, that Michael Jordan's case, probably the strongest and most well-accepted out there, left me the least convinced, which is a testament to the quality of this series. And now this: a finale fitting for a journey seven months in the making. Clayton, you magnificent man, I can't wait to see what you do next.

The series is amazing, but it is clear to me that he didn't put much effort when doing the MJ video. All the other videos have a stronger narrative which makes sense as he's trying to convince people that there`s a debate where there's not haha

The Jordan case was the weakest because he was trying to set up the Lebron case. Most of the Jordan case was just passively aggressively tearing him down pretending he's only "responding to common criticisms". He put very little effort into it. He's young though so he's likely a victim of recency bias. Probably legitimately wants Lebron to be the GOAT so MJ lives rent free in his head because he knows MJ's case is stronger.

Clayton, let me tell you something, I hope when LeBron retires you come back to this video and remake it. I personally believe with the steam the Lakers have right now he’s got one more ring for sure coming his way. With that ring it’ll add more fuel to flame that is his legacy. This is about as passionate of a video I’ve ever seen. The arguments made were fair and put out with context. I can appreciate the superb writing you had in the script and I couldn’t describe LeBron in a better way: “Faster than the Strongest but Stronger than the Fastest.” Poetry man, keep up the good work.

For me, that 3-1 comeback along with the first Cavs team he ever took to the finals had already convinced me, there is no other player in the history of the NBA that has ever meant more and been more valuable than LeBron. Now that he is 36 and was number 1 or 2 in the MVP ladder all year until his injury, and lead the Lakers with only AD (AD is an amazing player to have as a backup, nothing against AD) as a reliable 2nd option to a championship as a 35-year-old, leaves no doubt in my mind. What I find incredibly interesting/funny is that the one season LeBron doesn't make the finals, an Eastern Conference team wins it all, after a whole decade where people kept on saying the Eastern Conference was a joke Conference just because LeBron would always make it look easy.

I respect LBJ argument in some ways, in some ways he is the best ever. I don't "hate" LBJ or his fans because I watched both players and I think MJ was more dominant, specifically I've only seen 1 or 2 playoffs where LBJ matched MJs playoff intensity. On the flip side, the weirdest thing I see from young LeBron fans who didn't watch the Bulls is this fantasy that every Jordan teammate was some offensive hall of famer. Some of his teams were stacked defensively but LeBron has overall had more offensive talent around him in his career. Other than Pippen and Rodman, nobody would even know the name of Jordan's teammates if they hadn't played with MJ. Everybody would know AD, Wade, Bosh, Kyrie and Love if those players had never played with LBJ.

Not to mention James is an above average mid range shooter, he doesn't need to use floaters because he is an elite athlete who can finish above the rim, and considering he is 260 pounds 6'9 he moves his feet like a guard. to actually play at or even exceed the expectations people put on him as a kid is what makes him a Mt Rushmore player.

Seeing this in 2023 afte Bron broke the scoring record is truly amazing, there was a case to why he his the goat long before he won a chip in LA and broke Kareem record, truly legandary.

Love this video Acknowledged his low points, and also that it "doesnt define" him as way too many people try convince themselves Smashed the finals "losses" debate out the park too Just earnt yourself a subscriber

It did justify a couple of them, but still 2011 is a big stain. It doesn't define him, but it will always be brought up when his case is discussed. The fact that Magic had bad finals series is not a valid excuse, especially since Magic was up against a lot better team than Maverics, and a lot betrer player than LBJ was against.

@@IceMicko While Im not disapproving anything you said, Those Maverics are THE MOST UNDERRATED team in NBA HISTORY. They destroyed Kobe (won chip last year) - but no one talks about that, destroyed three young HOF player in OKC (plus, amazing bench) - no one talks about that, and even 1st round was against tough veteran team. That Maverics team from top to bottom WAS BETTER THAN THE HEAT. Yet no one will EVER agree to that, because it doesn't fit the narrative. Yes - James choked. But he played One of the greatest and perfectly matched team of all time. Everything came together for that team. And from 1 to 15 - its way better theam than Bosh, wade and lbj + 12 scrub players.

@@iFranOne I really wouldnt call Arroyo, Bibi, Eddie House, Mario Chalmers, Jerry Stackhouse, Udonis Haslem scrubs. Maverics performed better, but by the names (and cocncidering the age of the players) Heat was better.

@@IceMicko the only one that wasnt a scrub yet was udonis. But even he wasnt used correctly. As I said in 2011 that Mavs gonna win, I still stand by it. It was no surprise for me. They were way better team with way better game-plan and better coach at that time. I thought its gonna be 7 game series - it was 6. So its opinions and opinions. But Ill take '11 Mavs over any other team that year. And Im LAL fan who has HUGE respect for LBJ. But after plowing through KOBE I knew that its over for the rest of the league that year.

@@iFranOne even if you do count them as scrubs, which is too hursh, by that standards you could count most of Maverics as scrubs, as they were bunch of veterans waaaay out of their prime. Stojakovic for example played great series vs Lakers, but barely got any minutes vs Heat. It wasn't the talent that was in question, but their physical shape, which does come into play in best of 7 series in NBA final, after 3 more BO7 series.
