D2 sure is amazing stuff. Thanks for telling us about it and showing how to properly clean the headstones. Your compassion for all of these old resting places shines. The cemetery where a lot of my family is buried has graves from the 1840's. A lot of old stones could use a good cleaning. I'm going to see if others in my community would like to go in together and get some D2 and spend a few days doing some cleaning.

It starts locally. I have been volunteering for over 30 years in cemeteries in a dozen local towns. I have also spoken to town officials and helped a few towns get grant money to help out with neglected cemeteries and help preserve history and show some respect to those who passed before us. Most don't need money......just volunteers who take the time to do the work.

To be honest the stone didn’t look all that bad until you sprayed the D/2 on it… that’s when the growth was revealed… great job! I suggest using a bucket and dip your brush in the water as you clean…. That seems to work really good for me.

@@patriciasmith4277 D/2 biological solution is a material that is used to safely kill and remove biological growth from historic stone like headstones and building materials. Oh Robert, I am just so tickled that you went back to also D2 Samantha's headstone as well. Have you ever found any of her descendants?? Your so correct in ANYONE wanting to use D@ to clean their ancestors headstones, to Always use nothing but a soft brush to clean or scrub the stone. Wondering something. You stated, when visiting the Byrd's family plot, that you would look into getting a couple of the stones remounted..... Was wondering IF you could somehow Include possibly remounting Samantha's as well?? Also thought ti was such a shame that he husband's headstone is no longer there and wondering if there would be a headstone company that might maybe donate one for him?? I would at some point like to get some of this to clean my Great Grandmothers stone. I was only six when she died from Breast Cancer, but what time time I spent with her and around her, on family visit, have lasted a lifetime with me. Thank you Robert, for doing this for Samantha. I am sure she is smiling down from heaven above, and saying thank you.
