This is the aftermath of a hoarder. I wish I could have done more, but just what you see in this video took almost 5 hours. If I get more time, I'll go back and start on another room. We'll see. I have a lot of people on my calendar right now, so we have plenty more videos coming. Plenty more people to help.

Bless you! My son is also high functioning, he's 11. My Step Mother was /is a hoarder. Until her I had never even known this was a thing, I came from a very small farming community where most people wouldn't have enough money to every buy enough to hoard. When my father died she took out a mortgage on the house and his 50 acres, he willed the land to my sister and I. She refused to give it to us, and then she lost it all to the bank. I heard that when the bank took over the home they had to hire a company that did hazmat work to clear it out. She never offered my sister and I one thing of my father's, nothing. (He also willed his guitar which was his prized possession, to my sister) . A friend who still lives in the small community (I moved away 30 years ago) called me one day and said " guess what!?" I said " what?" She is literally beaming through the phone...she says , well when I heard Ann (step mother) didn't give you or your sister anything of your Dad's I took a drive out. By your Dad's home, I noticed he had a shed out in the back, it had an old lock on it which just fell off , it was empty but I thought...If I was a man who had anything of value, and was married to a woman who had a clear mental health problem and hadn't cleaned the home in 20 years, where might I hide something? So, she walked around and felt all around the joists and. Beams. Guess what she found? My Dad's gold pocket watch, which was my Grandfather's, a little wooden box he had made myself some of his guitar picks and a small switch. Blade knife with his name engraved on it, which I gave to him for Christmas one year. That was one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me.

Mental illness takes on many forms and levels and will never be fully understood. When reason and logic seem to leave completely or on any level it is near impossible to tolerate at times without getting caught up in it's destructive illogical senseless grip. Professional help can't even cure it 100%. Love that person from a distance physically if possible and it will help your emotional health as well. It's very ok to take good care of yourself. You count too.❤️ Pray sincerely for them AND yourself❤️❗Now go out into this world grabbing every opportunity to smile and enjoy the simplest things like a perfect sunrise or sunset, laughter, sharing an ice cream break😋, a walk on the beach or woodland trail, etc. and KNOW your life is as full of promise and potential and as important as any other. Big ❤️Hug ❗

You can do this, a few minutes at a time! One of the things that help me when decluttering and cleaning as well is to dust and vacuum as I go, reclaiming a space in sections - seeing a pretty result while taking a break from decision making. And I stand back to admire my work for a few moments (or minutes). I second your interest in getting the right tools, they help so much! I want a power-drill operated scrub brush myself, because I'm getting too old to scrub a long time on my hands and knees, and soap scum plus hard water is a (expletive deleted, lol). It's been on my list for awhile, but I'm debating between that and replacing my hand steamer. THOSE ARE WONDERFUL! Getting into crevices when cleaning window tracks, or cleaning ovens without the toxic cleaners. I also love that adding hand-sprayers in the showers makes most of the cleaning easier, along with tools on long-ish handles. On Amazon, I found a nice baseboard duster that has a head that folds and opens so it can do baseboards or walls or any long flat surface if you want. Eventually I'll have to get on my hands and knees on the tile (ouch) to get the dust in the corners, but for now it makes life a lot easier.

@@bitrudder3792 my vacuum has a hard floor setting which I use to vacuum my huge tile kitchen and I use the crevice tool to do the corners and the baseboards. In my bathroom I have a sponge mop to clean my tub and shower. Plus I spray that after shower spray. It really works. But you must start with a clean shower. I have four bad disc from injury to my back. So I can't really do much cleaning on my hands and knees. But I am a clean freak. Everything I use when done with it I clean and put back. Everything has a place and everything in it's place. Also in the paint department in home depot etc look for the steel wools. They have them in different grades on the package. Look on the back and you will be surprise how many things they can be used for and not expensive.

@@alissagonzales735 - It sounds like you love cleaning tools as much as I do! Unfortunately, I have cultured marble in my shower and it doesn't tolerate scrubbing with steel wool without defacing it. and I tried the steel wool trick on hard water stains in a toilet and permanently defaced that. 😢, even when I tried to be careful. Chemical sensitivities have kept me from wanting to use shower spray - and between that and hubs' manner of using soap, I've quite the dilemma in the shower! I wanted solid surfacing in the shower because you can scrub that all you want and have great results (plus invisible seams/no grout/no joints.) A shower stall like that is still my fantasy! I use Bon Ami ORIGINAL version for scrub-safe surfaces now (I couldn't find it in any local stores in our huge metropolitan area, I had to order it online in a case). It has a simpler and less toxic ingredient profile than the one at the store.

im trying to break the cycle early, thank you for the hope! im an autistic teen (he called it high functioning here, i consider myself just low/mid support needs) living in the home of an adult with the hoarding mentality (due to anxiety and childhood insecurities of food, money, Things, etc), its constantly a game of following her around the store and saying “no, you really dont want or need that.” but i have to play mind games, rushing to leave the store so she only buys what she went in for, warp what the item really is about so her cons then outweigh the pros. the main con is “this will be added to a bin full of nothings” but she won’t see that, so i play to her con of another negative thing. “they dont have the color you were looking for.” or “oh there was a better one somewhere else…” or telling her we have friends with it to borrow. costco is probably the worst, i hate that they utilize “sales” to get more people to buy- costco isn’t mindlessly giving up items out of the good in their hearts, the sale just opens up more customers to buy it, they make money off of her “opportunizing” (obviously). she tells me it’s a deal, it’s a sale, but no! it’s the difference between spending no money (not buying an unnecessary item) and spending some sum of money (buying the unnecessary item that is “20 dollars off”) just… ugh. its worse that we’re low income, im always worried she’s dipping into savings for this stuff. but i started cleaning the house room by room (each room takes an entire day and it’s not even clean, just stuff organized/thrown out) and its motivating her to start donating old old items to no-buy facebook groups and goodwill and the like, making it that she’s helping others who don’t have an excess of stuff is helpful in her letting go of things. my dad’s worse because he refuses to help her anxiety lessen, its the source of her spending habits that he complains about so cruelly. if it’s so important, why does he not go to the store to get groceries, so she doesn’t have the weekly opportunity to buy trinkets? because he likes that he can hate her for it, unfortunately. he will complain and complain, but spend 12 hours daily watching youtube in the basement while my mom is taking care of my 2 younger siblings and also myself often. but we will persevere. i am doing all that i can to convince my dad to put in more effort, and slowly he does (but while still being upset at my mom for things outside of her control) sorry for the rant, but i wanted to put it out there that there is action to be taken, and that things will always change. dont lose hope in anything, because it will someday be changed again.

@@EchoRosshow you doing guy. Hoarder’s feel overwhelmed. And buying things makes us feel happy for the time we spent shopping. Finding deals takes a concentrated effort, it’s our way of working hard. And at end of day- we stare at the stuff, stacked in the same pile > day-after-day and try deciding which to move, where to put it>> and we’ll go to place it elsewhere >>> and pick something up from near that spot.., then end up placing something in the spot we cleared up! We’re not sick! We just get tired staring, trying to figure it out. And we need a little nap. * So, you and the siblings do something for your mother while she naps. And don’t tell her 🤫.., a space will open up for her, so she doesn’t stare at it over-and-over. And she might see something cleared. And she might be moved to do something else towards cleaning. Otherwise, you and siblings might become a hoarder as well. I speak from experience, I followed my grandmother’s hoarding life-style. So, both my grown kids moved out just to not live in “squalor.”

We removed all the wax and build up once and removed the wax from his house, but he just bought more and continued to wax the floor. It looked awful all the edges were dark and bumpy with dirt and crumbs and was lighter in the middle. After he passed my husband spent an entire day removing layer upon layer upon layer of old yellowed wax so that the house would be sellable. It looked really good when he was done. This video inspired me so much to clean that nasty gummy oil/dust/cobweb/pet hair residue that covers the top of all of my kitchen cabinets, especially directly over the stove, because i cant reach that area when i am doing my day to day cleaning. I have attempted to clean it a few times before using a degreaser and a sponge and all it did was smear what was up there and ruin whatever i was using to try to scrub it. I was never able to get it really clean. After watching this video, i figured if you can clean this kitchen, i can clean my cabinet tops. I ran down to my local Biglots and grabbed the exact cleaners that you use and O...M...G! It was so easy!! It literally melted off and it was just a matter of wiping it off, no elbow grease or paint scrapers needed. I was able to clean all of my upper cabinets with just one sponge and one microfiber cloth. I did throw the spong away after but it survived the whole kitchen. My white kitchen cabinets now look like they just came out of the showroom. You are seriously my hero right now. You just have no idea how relieved i am to finally get those cabibets cleaned because it made my otherwise clean house always look dirty. Now that i know how to properly, and easily, clean them i am going to grab me a stool at least once a week to keep them wiped down. You should seriously, no joke, be the spokesperson for Mr. Clean products!!

I just found this channel - I have quite bad depression and suspect that I'm on the spectrum as well, which makes cleaning a very difficult thing for me. I don't like mess and especially hate dust, but if it gets to a certain point I can't bring myself to go near it, thus allowing it to get worse. 😅 It's a nasty cycle that's hard to break. Videos like yours and Auri's have really helped me to confront that fear, and show me that no matter how bad it seems, there's always an other side to it. Sometimes I can do it myself, and sometimes I can ask for help. I've slowly gotten better at maintaining my flat over the past few months, and have videos like this to thank for it. I'm looking forward to seeing more!

Self esteem, dignity and a strong will to make an effort could work wonders to break that "nasty cycle that's hard to break". Give it a chance.
@RoundSeal
@RoundSeal Жыл бұрын
@@susanapol382 I truly can't tell if this is meant in good faith or to be sarcastic, so I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt here - but please be aware of how insulting a comment like this is. No reasonable person would tell someone with two broken legs to apply 'self esteem, dignity, and a strong will to make an effort' to try harder at walking. Broken legs can heal, and the wave of depression can be ridden, but trying to force through it and ignore the recovery process is disastrous. What I'm dealing with has nothing to do with lack of self esteem, dignity, or will.
@kaelaleedaley
@kaelaleedaley Жыл бұрын
I believe this comment was left to you in good faith - the will to TRY, even if an attempt results in a temporary failure is incredibly healing, whether the pain you experience is physical (like your broken legs analogy) or mental, like your original comment states. I am physically Disabled by a Spinal Cord Injury I suffered at age 26. Everyday I wake up and TRY. My Husband has Aspergers and we have both had problems with severe anxiety-led depression in our lives (now healed, Praise The LORD!) - we both TRY, we try our very hardest. Some days we don't achieve all we'd like to but we've done all we can. This is VERY mentally healthy - as is encouraging someone with the Truth, which both I and the previous commenter are attempting to do. To comfort you with a lie would not help you, it might "feel good" fkr a short time but it won't benefit you at all long-term. To interpret cruelty where there is none intended, speaks of your hurting heart. Jesus asked the man crippled from birth - "Do you want to be made well?". This is such a powerful question and your answer is KEY - do you want to walk away from the difficulties you're facing in your life? Are you willing to TRY? Will you trust that you will be healed in time? The man who Jesus Healed didn't know exactly how Christ would heal him, he had to Trust that He would

I like cleaning and tidying up but I have bouts of depression where I just don't have the energy to do things. So I watch KZbin videos of people cleaning stuff to get that same feeling of satisfaction and rest in my head. So thanks for contributing to me keeping my sanity I guess. You do an amazing job.

I'm sure your very honest altrusim is a blessing to many who watch you. And yes, even though I try to keep a clean house you've given me a boost too. I get out my steam cleaner more often and vacuum and dust more often too. I'm a little OCD and so to make a long story short my house shines. God bless you for all you do.

You were very kind to clean that without protection. Most cleaning companies would refuse. Unfortunately, the whole house probably needs to be demolished to the framing. No doubt more rodent dirt in the walls.

Yup I agree, things may also be out of code as well since when I saw how old the stove hood looked (like it came from the 60's or 70's most likely) I wonder what the electrical in that kitchen and the rest of the house looks like. I wonder if the stove and it's hood used to be harvest yellow/gold at one point.

I feel so sad when I see someone has lived like this. It breaks my heart. Thanks for helping them clean it up as much as you could.

@@trkstatrksta8410 compulsive hoarding is a mental disorder, often triggered by traumatic experiences. Yes, they are very difficult to help, but you're not obligated to do anything that really needs more experience and training than you have. It's a major struggle for the hoarders and can make their lives fall apart around them.

@@trkstatrksta8410 From one person you can judge all hoarders? Then from your comment I should be able to judge that all people who try to clean up for hoarders are judgemental, ignorant and hold grudges, but I know better than to judge an entire group by one or a few people. Hoarding disorder is a complicated mental illness, you can't fix it just by cleaning up, just like you can't cure clinical depression by taking someone out for a walk on a beautiful day. You had a bad experience, call it what it was, but let the person who was making a positive comment say something supportive without cutting them down with such an ignorant and judgemental comment, because you clearly know nothing about hoarding disorder.

@@trkstatrksta8410 Could you tell me how I'm being harsh and what II'm not understanding? Natalie expressed sadness that people live this way and thanked the guy for cleaning the house and helping people. You responded with the situation cleaning up for your friend who was a hoarder, but went on to say "Hoarders are filthy, disgusting, ungrateful and lazy". That's pretty much cutting Natalie down by heavily implying her sadness and gratitude were misplaced. Lumping all hoarders in one box, and using the terms you used is inaccurate and harsh. Admitting you're also not perfect doesn't mean you can just say such crappy things about people. You've had bad experiences and find the people you've encountered frustrating and hard to tolerate and you have little sympathy and don't understand their mentality, which you owned, and I respect that, but that's the point, you don't understand so can't judge everyone and can't tar everyone with the same brush. Your comment that I have issue with is exactly what failing to understand and making harsh, judgemental and ignorant comments is.

Wow!! This is incredible!! You did a remarkable job here!! Lots of time spent, but this is so surreal, just to know the condition that this kitchen used to be. With your expertise and great cleaning, this has turned into a marvel of a kitchen. You've done a very great job. Kudos to you my friend!!!!
