How To: Clean Your Ear Pads. My Beyerdynamic DT-8877 Pro headphones have gotten quite grimy over the last couple years so I decided to revitalize the once-soft velour ear pads by giving them a proper cleaning.

This is exactly why I bought these headphones over others like Audio Technica. The pads aren't made of leather so they won't crack over time leading to a replacement. I can actually CLEAN these!

i sadly had to get a set of new pads after about a year the heat in my room last week got so bad the glue let go off the right side making the velur (or however you spell it) let go of the leather thus showing the foam rubber on the inside replacing them is a tiny hassle i found out but could be way worse it just tkaes a few minutes

pro tip: hit them in many directions with a hair brush or specialized suede brush if you want the material to puff back up

Better to not put them in any machines and rather handwash them and hand dry them. Putting them in the dryer or washer would scuff the pads up and damage something else.

Mine broke after i washed them 2 - 3 times. The glue just came off. Don't know if i'd recommend to sink them in water..

I washed them for the last 15 years on my 770s, once or twice per year. As you said after some time, usually around 2 years, the foam degrades and the pads flatten out, even if they look brand new after being washed. Best to replace them after some time, as worn pads impact sound quality.

I always put the first half on the rim of the earcups, than i hold them on both sides and with a rounded flat object (like a butter knife), I go in between the inside of the headphone and the earpad, then I gently lift the vinyl over the rim, bit by bit until they're completely on. On the newer models Beyerdynamics has modified the rim, they put a notch in it so that you simply push the pad against the earcup and rotate them 360° to get them on

Just a FYI to anyone considering washing your ear-pads: Beyerdynamic strongly advice against washing ear-pads on the basis that detergents damage the foam on the inside of the earpad which will in turn affect the sound of the headphone in a negative way - not to mention the possible growth of mold and what not. The earpads are just as important as any other part of your headphones and should not be tampered with unless absolutely necessary. Buy replacement pads from beyerdynamic or any other reputable manufacturer if possible, it's worth the money. Earpads are important
