Cleaning More Model Engines - In The Kitchen. I bought a collection of model engines from John Mills when I visited him at his '"Doubleboost" Workshop
It is a large collection once owned by his late Father.

Before I watched this I covered my keyboard and got a towel, they bring back many memories. I noticed a number of diesel engines, they were rare over here, but I did acquire a couple when I was younger, but never did get them to run, probably not using the right fuel.

I've always wanted one of those 4 stroke engines, but they're expensive. Also, that horizontal opposed twin cylinder is rather cool!

My father and I used to fly RC airplanes back in the day. A lot of these engines bring back memories. Strangely I still love the smell of nitro fuel. But modern batteries and electric motors have changed the hobby completely Nitro gas Motors are almost a thing of the past.

Even though some of the boxes are (after all of these years) in relatively poor shape, I'm glad you kept them with the engines. They are part of the engines' history and will be worth more & more as time passes, kind of like the paper shotgun shells I gave to a (collector) friend that couldn't believe that I still had some (in the original box) back in the '80s. I also completely understand growing older but not necessarily "growing up"! ;) I wish I still had my first control line airplane and had progressed to more advanced aircraft. Now I'm thinking of building a wood bi/triplane that is RC controlled since I'd now only have to walk a few 100 yards/meters out back to be able to fly it.

I really like these old engines when nearly everyone was special in some way, especially with them getting replaced with silent and boring electric motors that are all more or less the same. There is a place for all types of power systems but the antique nitro's and diesels are the most intriguing to me. Sadly my grandfather's collection was sold before I was even born but I started collecting on my own.

My first engine was an Enya 15, it powered a very nice Japanese control line kit of a Oscar which I built in 1966 whilst growing up in Aden.

Use to crash control line models regularly in the late 60's/early 70's. Spent weeks building them and one or two seconds trying to fly them. Had an AM10, green cylinder head and an AM15 with a blue one. the AM25 was black but never got round to fitting that in anything.

Used to work with ultrasonics in a lab, Keith is using them correctly, they're just very noisy, we used to keep them in fume hoods with the sash down to try and reduce the noise

It looks like a gold mine to me! Any chance that E.D. marine engine in the yellow box is the same model that propelled Miss E.D. across the English channel in the 1950’s? That’s the one I want!

I am not sure, I think the one they used in 1951 was about 4.5cc

The little square electric motor with the small propeller attached looks like the motor out of an Aurora HO slotcar. I can understand why it didn’t have enough power to turn a prop and move a model airplane. These little motors revved high, but had no torque.

I would wash out the WD-40 with a preservative oil. I have seen many fine firearms ruined by WD-40 from drying up and rust forming. WD-40 removes water, but it does not provide long term protection from rust.

Just for you to know Keith WD40 is not ideal for lubricating engines what you need is "after-run oil this is available I believe from just engines I have engines years old that are oiled with this and turn over sweet WD40 dries out far to much.
