My husband worked there a couple summers for a man building furniture. They made desks for U of I. The 2nd floor had vintage vehicles. I am very excited to have found your videos!!!!!

Growing up in the area of where Brown Show Factory is located, it’s really cool to see the inside of it. My grandfather worked there back in the day too. Lots of cool stuff and definitely love the big windows upstairs. Really enjoying these videos and I hope you’re successful with the auction!

if I would live closer I would pop by and get that old school elevator literarrly U P and running for You guys ! That would be so cool to see how it was made back then and all the controls plus wiring for it . I would love to watch a video where You show everything that is asociated with it. Im sure there is a main breaker panel and at some point there might be additional electrical panels. Plus entire cable drive system above the elevator case. You guys are doing good work ! Keep our history alive ! I bet there are some folks that remember this place at it's finest . Ps. Me Polish 2 lol

@@brickandsole Hey Chris ! Absolutely ! Ask me anything . You must be very careful with electricity . You Seem to be very handy and ambitious person which lead me to believe you can do basic checks. I will need you to snap some pictures of the area above the elevator. One picture is worth than million words . Not sure if you want to email me them or you will make additional video. Up to you im good either way. I live in Canada. In Alberta. I grew up in small town 30 km from Warsaw. Not sure how i come across your YT channel but i have to say me and my wife are enjoying watching You making progress. We will have to figure out al the regulations about the elevators in US. They probably need to be inspected especially if you are planningon running business in this building. We don't want anyone getting any injuries . Let's focus on making that unit working. Will evaluate condition of it and assess what needs to be done in order to be safe and sound. Off topic a bit. You asked for suggestions on ideas for this building..Shipping center would be my guess. There is a lot of youtubers advertising it now maybe you could check of there are existing ones in Your area. I will shot you an email.

I suggest you use some pallet wood and make a platform that will fit in that shaft so you can just roll stuff onto that and lower it, it should save some time.

Have you considered a builders rubble shoot to move items from floor to floor ,let items drop on to an old mattress works well

The thing is that if you work there for one day, you can't see your impact. If you look back over 6 weeks of work, there is a sense of of accomplishment and satisfaction. But I only have 6 weeks at a go so I get totally motivated then .... time to go.

@@brickandsole Would snapping a pic or three before you start the day and comparing it to "after" help, maybe? Seeing a "before" and "after" sometimes jolts the brain into realizing that there was actually something accomplished. Could maybe use them in your videos, also....

You should be able to find someone to get your elevator to working. If it’s just a solenoid you should be able to find one that would work. Doesn’t have to be the original one to operate it.

It’s not going to be “just” a solenoid. Some of these old elevators if they’re hydronic used them as the switches for the control logic much like relays in rope driven models. My guess is it would be the solenoid for the brake as it’s most likely cable driven and that’s not something you can just buy off the shelf for how old the elevator has to be. It’s a custom made mechanical part not a standard electronic component. If it’s missing replacing it with something else requires proper knowledge to understand what requirements the replacement needs to meet.

Seems to me you should perhaps buy some equipment. A cardboard/paper compactor, A chipper for both your landscaping and old timber from the building. And finally a dump truck so you can take rubbish, scrap metal, compacted cardboard, and finally antiques to various sites rather than using dumpsters.
@brickandsole

Yes. I'll likely prioritize the stuff I'll still be able to use after the cleanup, like the bucket lift. Will always be able to use it on building maintenance and trees etc.
