The film shows common places where asbestos can be found in a typical Queensland home built before 1990, when asbestos was commonly used as a construction material. There are a host of safety tips to consider during renovation to prevent exposing yourself or others to asbestos fibres.

I’m a general contractor, I truly believe building product manufacturers and suppliers should be held legally and financially liable for the products they used to manufacture and supply back in the day. Most homeowners would be SHOCKED at the reality of what’s in their homes. More homes than not have both asbestos AND lead based paint, especially 75 and prior. Manufacturers KNEW in the 50s that asbestos had health consequences, entire societies began banning lead based paint in the 1920s! And yet the United States continued using these toxic building products all the way through 1980 ATLEAST! The fact of the matter is, if you live in a house 1978 or prior, there’s a very good chance you have toxic building products in your home somewhere. Everyone thinks “lead based paint, I only need to test for it on the exterior of my house” that is dead wrong. If your exterior has lead based paint, why wouldn’t your interior?! You ALWAYS need to test ANYTIME you are disturbing building products that has a tendency to produce dust. 1980 and prior, ALWAYS TEST! And do NOT go with the lowest bid, you needed an EPA certified contractor who knows what he is doing work in a lead/asbestos safe manner. Your life could depend on it

I found asbestos in our house that was built in 1979. It was under the vinyl sheet in the adhesive. Honestly, all the companies that still use it in materials after obviously knowing the seriously negative health hazards should be put in jail and hit with harsh fines. It's so upsetting to think about all the families that had to go through hell and see loved ones suffer bc of corporate greed

"As long as the asbestos sheeting is well-maintained and sealed..." Well, that's a big "if" isn't it? It's a statement designed to absolve someone of any responsibility and get them off the hook. One day about 18 years ago in the very nice 1990s-era office building where I worked, I happened to brush up against the very expensive acoustical wall paneling in the hall outside my office. A large cloud of dust and fibers sailed into the air causing me an attack of sneezing, and putting a powdery layer all over my clothing. I mentioned this to the administration and building management offices, and within a few weeks, all the walls had been stripped of this paneling and replaced. Unfortunately for me, two years ago I had to have a bilateral lung transplant.

Yeah maintenence is nothing you take for granted I still remember at my old school where at the end the whole building was falling apart we had these construction ceiling supports in the hallways with wood plates everywhere because tiles would come down and when it rained the water was everywhere, windows and door frames were all bent and warped they were so hard to shut and open some were just covered up with wood. it was revealed that it's full of asbestos, the gym and hall was closed and we had sports class outside even in winter until the whole school had to be torn down in the early 2000s. Luckily I have no lung problems yet but that place was a hell hole

It is still used , even today.. i heard brakeshoe and brake pad have abestos in it.. who know. At least fiberglass still in use.. it is as bad as abestos.. why don't ban that as well... or ban covid virus.. it is more lethal.. 1 virus and could die.. while 1 abestos or fiber glass fiber won't kill.. but rather will recover from it as if nothing have happened.

"A trady" So what trade is it then? I'm a sparky, so that pretty much says it all. Still have no idea why there's socket in a bathroom. It seems to be like it's would wide for some reason, apart from England that is. We seem to have the safest regulation's and safety when it comes to electricity and most things I recon. I've worked in many places that have asbestos. One was only once I finished doing a job in a school. i was putting up a few 100m worth of trunking, on what I didn't realise until afterwards (because it all had to be taken down and thrown away because it was contaminated), was an artex asbestos ceiling. That was around 12ish years ago so I'll have to see how things go later on in my life. My grand is a painter & decorator and years ago he was rubbing down loads of guttering and down pipes to paint. Little did he know at the time, it was all asbestos. That was many years ago n so far hasn't had any side affects. It was a brit that put 2 and 2 together and that was back in the 1800!! They knew all about it back then. But they were all earning far too much money out of it and people are still doing it to this day! The only problem is is that it's the developing countries don't care and there's no safe guards in place & PPE to protect them, because people are expendable in 2nd & 3rd world countries. Even though Canada exports at least half of it's asbestos to places like India and I know Russia has huge asbestos mine's. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. And that's world we live in. It's an extremely fucked up world we live in. The people who CAN do something about it, won't! (because it cost's them money) and the people that DO want to change it, CAN'T, due to lack of funds. If alien's ever did want to visit this destroyed, poisoned, broken plant. They'd probably observe at a great distance n shake there heads in disbelief.

A lot of products were made with asbestos in them, and some, some, of them look a little similar to non-asbestos products. This makes it hard for people who can't tell the difference, to know whether their product is safe or not. So they can get their products in their house or car tested, which will tell them if it is or isn't asbestos.

Hi Marijo There will likely be some asbestos debris on the ground where you cleaned the tiles. Some of the asbestos debris may be visible as a slurry like material and some of the debris will be invisible. The debris should be removed to protect you and your family. We recommend you engage an A class licensed asbestos removalist to clean up the debris and remove lawn in the area where you cleaned the tiles. I've just found out recently, that I may have been exposed to fiberglass inhalation every day at my place of work, for the past 13 years. Plus I've ridden my pushbike to and from work for the last 30 years, sucking in all those diesel particulates, asbestos brake linings etc, and I'm in my mid 50's now, so I've lived a reasonable life compared to some people, so whilst the news of a lung type cancer would shock me, it certainly wouldn't actually surprise me, if that makes sense? The guy told her it was okay, her walls are sealed, the only "one-off" exposure was from the picture hangings, but the risk advised was minimal. It's the people who only realize later, after maybe ripping out walls etc, who have to live with the dread of contracting a deadly asbestos-related disease. She would not have gone in blind buying this house, she knew the potential hazards, thats why she called the expert out.
