I have always wanted to learn how to paint a car. This is something I have been wanting to learn for a long time, I am almost 34 now and I have been wanting to do this since I was 15 and to one day open my own custom auto shop. Australia has been one of the places that I have wanted to visit.

I am a newcomer to the painting of cars using low pressure guns and compressors but i am very happy to see what great results can be achieved using gravity guns and a good coating or three of clear coat, after watching these videos i feel so much more confident about tackling such jobs although a little more testing as we in the uk do not see as much sun or get the heat therefore i am relying on a good heater and a large marquee to work in, with a couple large cool air fans spun around to draw out any over spray, all a bit suspect i do agree but when on a budget with a compressor costing around 90 squid and a 40 pound gun well if anything it will be a great day if i can get anything near a shine on my base coat, if not ill keep the hose handy and the car wet, just take it out late at night. great vids Gunman really appreciate your time on them. cheers bud

I like the idea of walking around the car and ending up where you started - then melting the dry spray off with blending solvent / fade out reducer. Keeps from getting lost for sure... or constantly dragging the hose back and forth

PPGs D8173 HS Clearcoat, very minimal almost no orage-peel outa gun, higher pressure with higher volume, care for runs. Will flow out over and hour but self leveling to a point. Cold temp, low pressure,low volume and wet basecoat sinkback will give orange-peel look. But to really get rid of orangel-peel you need to wet rub the last clear coat with something like 2000 till its smooth az and then do a final flow coat over the top.

your a top class painter, I done a lot of refinishing years ago an its good to watch other peoples techniques only thing I wish Id see you doing is wearing a full cover all for your safety while dealing with isocyanides in 2k paint it absorbs through the skin as well even if a 2k paint says its free from them they still have a small amount in them as they cant truly be free from them.

Great job on the Echo!! I own one over here in the U.S. that I just painted with the paint code 583 which is called Satin Gold. Its not the shade that's different, it is a different coloring in the gold all together. Had I seen your video first, would have tried the 581 just to see the difference in the two Toyota gold colors.

Great video! Thanks Gunman! It's cool that you talk about work shop stories, problems etc. Some time ago I was surprised that Duxone products in Australia are sold with Standox name plate. While here in Poland (and probably in EU) are sold with DuPont name plate. Reason of that is Axalta owns both Dupont (Cromax) and Standox brands. Duxone HS is ok clear, but I don't like it to much. We can buy better clear coats for better money. Like Novol 570 and 590. Or slightly more expensive Spectral MS.

Excellent tip about the DIY "dryspot" remover ! Now GM you are always telling us how we have to "get our eyes in the reflection" to see how the paint is going down..." Maybe you could teach us about tips and tricks on lighting for paint? Are there some general rules on angles as to HOW to light a job if you are not in booth. What sorts of lights and globes are best for painting?...stuff like that ! Cheers Pete in sunny Malta
@TheGunmanChannel9 жыл бұрын
TresMamboMusicSchool The best lighting is fluorescent globes either side of the car "parallel" the more the better and high too, basically try to mimic the same lighting as in a booth, I will be doing a vid on my booth soon so I'll try include some info like that in it. Hi, after I spray the last coat ,I realise a lot of solvent pop. can you let me know how to repair and fix it. Should I repaint the clear coat or any solution?
@stemmeup90406 жыл бұрын
I did that with a too heavy coat on my trunk with a cheap gun. Sanded down with a DA sander with an interface pad with 2000 grit dry. After I compounded that out, I only ended up with a couple small ones left. Given, I had three coats of clear on so I knew I wasn't going through to the base. I Did the same with my question above, only I wet sanded, then buffed.
@hogman24615 жыл бұрын
Plin Ng best things to do is sand it like you would for clearing and wait a couple of days and then re-clear.
@zanaga19013 жыл бұрын
I sanded down my metallic paint down to 400 grit but now it doesn't look right was trying to get rid of the orange peel but also had used a 1.7 tip after my other spray gun was messing up a 1.3 or 1.4 but now I think be just better repainting the whole truck again. But sand down lower than 400 grit about 220 grit then after clean the whole truck and mask off vehicle put some adhesion promoter first then spray basecoat again. It is one spot I could use more body filler that didn't get when painted it before but will have to be on a time that ain't humid after 1 pm today it wasn't humid but last time painted it did get humid under 48 hours after painted my truck. I wanna be to do the job right on my vehicle but next time paint wanna be around more lighting too and more space in the garage not enough light plus I did get paint on the floor too. I used the pps cup system and the cup fell off I have gotten use to the pps system now though putting the cup on. But making lots of mistakes when painting still even though only started trying to paint since last year on old truck. I applied at a auto detailing job online because I feel soon will be leaving the job where at now doing cleaning a school which not making enough I don't have auto painting and detailing experience and I see some online you have to have experience but am a beginner so have to get the experience first.

Gunman I never went to school for this so kinda learning on my own. Can you tell me how you can continue to clear the same spot over and over and not have any runs? Are you waiting between coats? I have a problem with making my paint and clear run. Is it the reducer type? Just have to say that you are good with that camera too! Thanks for your help.
@TheGunmanChannel9 жыл бұрын
Petie Wheatstraw Thanks, flash off times are important and don't forget I am in a very hot place so that helps stop runs and yes thinning too much wont help, have you seen my video on "how to use a viscosity cup"? if not just type it into a search and you should find it.

Great video. I am painting my Cadillac Brougham. I shot 2 coats of matrix ms-42 clear coat on it. I had a few runs and a lot of orange peel. That was 36 hours ago. My 12-24hr recoat window is gone. I wet sanded the runs and now want to put a few more coats of clear on the car. Do I need to wet sand the car smooth before the last coats of clear?
@mattarnold1985 жыл бұрын
From what you were saying about clear coat always leaving orange peel but then polishing always leaving scratches - would you say you can get a better finish polishing off the orange peel or not if you've used the correct spraying technique for your clear coat? I've seen a lot of videos where people polish off the orange peel and as far as I can tell, it looks better after - is this just down to poor application of the clear coat though?

Sometimes I get the feeling that the dislikes on videos like this comes from other jealous painters. Why? Most times I don't see a very good reason to dislike the video. Only thing I disliked about this video was that the painter is spraying a paint that will seep through his skin and cause great problems later on.

johnbeer678 Some paint companies give it a different name from what I know, but some activators are used in acid etch primers where it is 2 part but will never go fully hard in the gun like 2 pack with hardener, sorry I couldn't be much more help but for more info ask a technical paint rep.
