I have been filing my taxes through the Turbo Tax app for the past 5 years and I’ve had to pay every single time. The app doesn’t give you the option of filing for free. Do you recommend I file on the actual Turbo Tax website in order to get that free filing option? I hope my question makes sense 🥴

The free filing depends on the type of activity that you have (for Turbotax). So it won't matter if you use the app or the website. There are other software providers that allow you to file for free based on your income level (those providers are listed on the IRS website).

You type it in, however, the software is only checking that you didn’t exceed the amount you’re allowed to put in (otherwise there’s a tax penalty).
