I really loved this animation as someone who has been in a relationship like this. Trevor probably doesn't mean any harm, and it's clear he cares, but, it can be emotionally exhausting to be in a relationship where someone feels so emotionally distant or careless. Bloo's realization that he kept lashing out because he wasn't happy and finally putting an end to it was one I could really relate to. Super well-done animation that showed the complexities of these relationships really well.

Had the same. He just wanted his fun and was just like Trevor. Didn't mean harm but also didn't care when i told him i would like to spend more time together without drinking. And even during our bar visits he was always with other people, so I also had to talk with different people. After 2 years of this (the relationship was 8 years long) i more and more began to lash out in frustration cause i felt lonely but nothing changes. Even after a year, the breakup hurts but this relationship went in a direction that could never be repaired.

They were both just not right for each other. Trevor seemed distant and distracted precisely Because of Bloo's narcissistic personality, always calling him dumb, maybe even attracting a guy like Trevor because he enjoys feeling intellectually superior, it's super common. They both had their reasons for acting the way they did, but it didn't excuse either. So in the end it was best to just part ways.

I mean, it was incredibly clear from the start that they weren't good for each other. Navigating that kind of thing, especially in queer relationships can be really difficult. Things don't always work, and I'm glad that Bloo was able to recognize when the relationship wasn't healthy. I see a lot of queer-centric media falling into the trap of either "everything is perfect", or conversely, "everything sucks". It's nice to see something that acknowledges and even explores the complexities that are inherent to relationships.

Every relationship, even platonic ones, will see this happen. Some of them move on, some of them don't. And with that, this film does not an excellent job in showing what I mentioned above. People say opposites attract, but it's actually really hard to maintain a relationship with someone you have little in common with. These two have very different tastes in friends and fun activities. Trevor doesn't compromise, and Bloo tries to change Trevor, to the point of using verbal and physical abuse. Bloo is petty and will bring up everytime Trevor messed up, even the accidents. That makes Trevor dislike being around him even more, which leads to him ditching Bloo, who is insecure about being left alone and will try to change Trevor again. And the cycle continues. Break up is hard, but it was the only way out for these two.

I think what’s also interesting about this is that it’s the “twink” breaking up with the buff guy. At least in my experience(or self esteem whatever) in the gay community,buff guys are usually assumed to be the golden spatula of everyone wanting. So when you date someone who’s conventionally attractive or you perceive as more attractive than you. You have a almost toxic relationship of wanting to “keep going” cause you’ll be having to find another diamond in the rough type scenario. But in this the tv guy had enough self esteem to begin with and leave by his own choice.

I don't think it's that. I think it's Bloo literally losing emotional (remote) control, like Bipolar or such. He flies off the handle and starts chewing out Trevor in a bathroom at a party. Trevor wrestling him for the remote is him trying to steer Bloo back to being emotionally stable, but in an unhealthy way (like "just drop it").

I like the story a lot. Sometimes, I enjoy when couples try to better themselves and work on their relationship to be healthier, but I let out a sigh of relief when a fictional relationship is going to be worse and the partners recognize that they aren't capable of fixing it. And when the people in that relationship acknowledges that and breaks it off, it makes me feel some kind of happiness. Knowing when to break it off when it's not working out. It's okay to quit something that's not going to be good for the two of you. Had they stayed, it was probably going to be worse and wounds from fights/arguments can damage them even more. It's not easy to fix a dysfunctional relationship. I hope those two men move on and grow as individuals.

I've watched this three or so times now, once when it came out and twice more recently and it really sticks how much I love this short. Not all gay partnerships are sunshine and rainbows, and showing two very flawed people who obviously do mean well for eachother to some extent, just fall out and realise they're not right for eachother. One thing I did notice though is a lot of people siding with Bloo. Trevor is uncommunicative, a bit selfish, brash, and doesnt think before he acts, but Bloo is dramatic, judgemental, and someone who will drive it into your skull how imperfect you are for your faults, acting as if he himself is perfect. And it really is a great thing to me. Everyone has flaws. Everyone has a crutch to keep themselves sane, but Trevor trying to take that crutch away was really hurtful to me, someone who has his own vices. But Bloo's constant talk of imperfections and mistakes would drive you insane. In the end, the two weren't good for eachother, and in my headcanon, may have gotten together out of "necessity" because they were both just two gay dudes. I went through the same thing in highschool. It sucked but i learned a lot from it. I love this short to bits. Plus, pipi making a cameo was real sweet.

Wow. That was certainly a lot of emotions to go through. I already watched this 4 times already, and MAN, is the ending emotional every time. First off I just wanna say MY GOD, THAT WAS SO AMAZING! I LOVE THE ART STYLE SO MUCH, IT FITS WITH ALL OF THE PARODIES BLOO AND TREVOR ARE IN, the designs of the cartoony object head universe, MWAH, perfect. Props to the cast and animators sticking true to the style! The story was incredibly fast paced, but NOT in a bad way, despite bloo and trevor literally traveling through every show parody every 3 seconds, it still tells us how they feel and how their relationship works out. It all works out in the end though, well certainly not their relationship lol. The pace slows down a bit, making that last moment with them, really beautiful, accompanied with the lighting, music and all, that’s probably why I teared up too lol, cause I as the viewer also knew what was bound to come, like how bloo knew in that part. It sucks, I know if they stayed together, it wouldn’t be good and/or they would’ve had ALOT of making up to do, it was for the best. It just hurts cause how hurt trevor looked, and that we don’t get that much MLM representation in animated media. But again, not every relationship is peachy keen, or works out in the end, and that also counts LGBTQ relationships. So the breakup also had a good message. 9.5/10. CONGRATS to everyone that worked in this film and with the bronze award in SCAD. You did a good job! Can’t wait for other people to find this film, it’s important to see, by all means. 🧡💜🧡💜

This short I wasn’t expecting much from but it was really good! it’s really relieving to see a romance without the it being not overly perfect and mushy but also not too dramatic. bloo and Trevor aren’t bad people, no one was the villain, no one was the innocent protagonist. What I find most interesting about this film is how the TV channels represent the stage of their relationship 80s sitcom: the "honeymoon" phase. They were joyous and carefree, with Bluu loving Trevor's airhead and "cool as a cucumber" personality, and Trevor finally having someone who can ground him. Even at big problems, they laughed it off and treated it like it was very silly TLC channel: The problems were starting to get more dramatic and noticeable, but it was over silly things, and Bluu probably just thought these were small, when in Trevor's mind, he felt as though they mattered AND was constantly interrupted in favor of Bluu's solution, which in the end, made him bottle up any negative emotion The Office: This is where the issues with Trevor start to present themselves. No fly list, vacations gone up in flames, and while Bluu was overdramatic, Trevor's reckless lifestyle was start to hurt the both of them, but Trevor didn't care, based on his annoyed expressions. The news: Just to recap what happened in the first scene + show Trevor's at his breaking point Telenovela: Their problems are now at the point where they're screaming and yelling at each other, and it's getting to the breaking point for Bluu, while Trevor's trying to keep things afloat. Bluu, at this point, is giving up on the relationship and has decided he would put his own needs beneath him, if it means keeping Trevor. As for Trevor, he ignores these problem and probably uses his partner's investment on their now toxic relationship as a way to make himself the victim, which leads me to: BTAS: This is how Bluu sees their relationship. Trevor is always being the "hero", saving himself from Bluu, even when Bluu's mental health is deteriorating. Bluu is becoming more angry at himself and Trevor, believing this is all Trevor's fault and "How can Trevor let this get so bad" Game Show: Bluu's realization. It wasn't easy, but it was important. He needed to realize that while he loved Trevor, their relationship is beyond saving and he must take control back of his life (which is shown when he uses the remote). This is where we circle back to the 80's sitcom, where Bluu realizes that he shouldn't have been laughing at these problems, but instead taking them as red flags, but what are red flags when you're wearing rose colored glasses?

@@mygachaphase it was a joke because "What are red flags when you're wearing rose colored glasses?" is related to obliviousness of telltale signs (red flags) for things. I think. Apparently, "When you look at someone through rose-colored glasses, all the red flags just look like flags."

Also notable is that the return to the 80s sitcom is the first instance in which the reality that they’re “on TV” is acknowledged in the boom mics and the cameras falling in on them. Suddenly, Bluu realizes the level of toxicity in their relationship, and thus there’s a illusion that’s been shattered, as is illustrated.
@taynfox26422 жыл бұрын
What impresses me the most besides the film's creativity is the demonstration of a frayed relationship, I feel a little sorry for Trevor, not like he's the good guy in the story but because he seems overwhelmed. He lives being beaten up lol, but he's not the only one because Boo also seems to feel alone in the relationship making him stressed, Every couple has their bad days and sometimes we get fed up with our partner, but when there's no communication, no closeness, empathy or love, it's not a relationship,It's a prison :( I think Trevor and Boo are really cool but they just don't work together

I dont normally comment on videos but god damn this is my favorite short film ive ever seen. Everything from the animation to the dialogue to the character designs, its all so beautifully done. It portrays a toxic relationship so accurately and breaks it off instead of keeping it going with bloo’s empty, half-assed apology. So much of the symbolism is so smart and interesting, correct me if im wrong but i saw the channels flipping as a representation of all the times theyve tried to repair their relationship but it stayed the same. And god their expressions when they were exposed to all their problems. Trevor has a look of fear and slight guilt, like he knows its been like this but has put up with it because he cares about bloo. Meanwhile bloo has a look of confusion, like he had no idea how toxic he was being throughout the relationship. God damn this is so good, i could talk about it for hours. Super well done!
@ryanharris2341 Жыл бұрын
i think you got it mixed up, Trevor is radio guy and bloo is the tv dude, from my POV Trevor was being emotionally despondent and neglectful and bloo lashed out after being knocked out (which is never okay but fight or flight reactions) and started making excuses for Trevor's neglect cause he's clingy and overly invested in a relationship that's falling apart. then the tv magic happens and bloo finally realizes there's too much damage and Trevor wont change so he walks away, IMHO Trevor isn't crying cause the relationship is over, he's crying cause bloo woke up and realized how bad things were and that he was better off alone and it didn't end on Trevor's terms it would also probably help if we knew wtf trevor was saying with subtitles or somethin

LMAOO!!!! I love that you used the Capstone project requirements and design as the Lorem Ipsum of the newspaper. Clever. Also, a bit of sound design left a few parts a bit hollow, but it's a student project, not a large-scale giant show, so I think it was amazing. The only thing that I really wanted was at the end for a way for Trevor to actually speak in a way the audience could understand at the last fight they were having so that it felt more serious, beatboxing and pointing kind of takes you out of the moment, and for you to linger more on the moment Bloo realized that it's OVER over, because it was a really emotional moment that drew the audience in and the stakes felt high and the entire story came crashing to a close, where the fights escalated and it was no longer Bloo trying to hold it together but Bloo that actually gave up, and that's what hurt Trevor more. At that moment, you should have really lingered on the emotion, because it's heavier and the audience is all bought in and sad too, it's easy to milk us at that point. You could have Trevor try to salvage the relationship in an awkward and terribly-done but well-meaning way, like he plays some sappy music on the boombox head but Bloo tells him it won't work this time... having Bloo look over all the fond memories but then turning and looking AGAIN back at the fights... one or two lines of how he doesn't blame him for everything that happened, but that as long as they keep ignoring what they're like together, that they won't be happy. Just.. more time for the audience to really process it, so that when he walks out the door and the credits roll with the music, it feels so much more devastatingly final. NO ONE likes to break up with someone that they were that close to, even if the relationship wasn't a good one. Bloo went to a party just FOR Trevor, to make him happy, and.. at the end of the day, he walked out single. but the storyline, the animation quality itself, the delivery and punch, the animation STYLE and the mixing up.. using character design INSIDE of animation design? FUCKING ACES, MY GUY. The volume turning up on bloo was hilarious, the fact that he was a TV and the channel-changing felt like it was what was going on in his head was great because every channel felt like it was taking Bloo's side because it's what HE feels that we're working through, compounded by the fact that Trevor can't speak causes us to focus more on Bloo. It was delightfully designed and fun and rompy to just parade through the stages of a fight from anger blame rejection planned damage distancing and finally separation, but then for it to stop halfway through and say "Wait.. no.. we're fighting AGAIN. This needs to stop." And you did amazingly. I could EASILY see this being a somewhat awkward unpolished first pilot of a show about Bloo trying to live as a gay man...er, television set... thing, and capturing difficulties in his relationship life. The "bad breakup", the "is that person actually gay or are they just super nice and bright and cute?" episode, and more relationships as a whole like the "Do I even want something more serious like a family?" episode, and "I keep doing all these things to spend time with him and he appreciates it so much, but I'm not happy doing all the things HE wants to do" episodes... you know, stuff like that. Trevor is the episodic character that shows up to tackle the problem but we move on and never really go back to him, and Bloo would be the main focus of it all. It could definitely become a youtube series that expands bigger, like Red Vs Blue or RWBY in the old school days, or to use a more modern example, Vivziepop's Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel series. It's so... quiet and mundane and relatable, but still expressive and funny and clever and creative! I'm STILL stuck on how much I loved him manually turning up the volume on his display to shout at Trevor. That was hilarious and genius.

You're assuming Bloo went there FOR Trevor, but, even if that's what Bloo believes, I think it's more likely that Bloo is anxious attachment-heavy, and NEEDED to be with Trevor (He mentions that Trevor going to the Nutcracker without him is one of his biggest sins). He was there for himself, and his behavior demonstrates that to me very clearly.
