Imagine your job is hanging 300 feet on a thin rope, on nearly vertical cliffs, in Waimea Canyon on Kaua‘i. This is precisely what Adam Williams, a botanist with the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), and Scott Heintzman with the state’s Plant Extinction Prevention Program (PEPP) do on a regular basis.

This is a beautiful video. Mahalo You Tube for being a University of the internet in so many subjects. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the video lectures and teaching opportunities you offer us. Watching the day to day struggles of so many botonists to save species from extinction. Where are the Kanaka Maoli in this field? There is an extinction situation among native people too.

You want that job,... go get it. Find your way. Find out if passing an exam is necessary, research and learn the information. Get your résumé, and get your application in every two weeks. Get through as many interviews as is required. Land that job! Looks to me like a federal or state job, maybe 'Department of the Interior', 'B of Land Management', maybe 'Dept. of Food and Agriculture' or 'Forestry'. Look up info on his shirt. Set that goal and don't look back.

Maybe the best place for many of these plants is right next to peoples houses in town where there are no goats. The house is in rock walls of Kilauea? Could provide perfect shelter and habitat for the mints. The dryer areas of Lihui and Kayla for the dryer plants. But I think it is a big mistake To try to maintain plantings out in the wild only. Would it not be better to educate the community on the beauty and necessity of having these plants right outside your door.?

Relay smart, what do you think the tourist will do with their drones when they see this video.

Real drone pilots will know that flying in state parks and nature reserves is illegal here in Hawaii as it is in the mainland. Tourists who violate airspace and local regulations should be fined and possibly punished further. I’m a licensed drone pilot and have been on Kauai for over a week on a trip and I refuse to fly in these areas for this reason. Without prior approval from the state for reasons like conservation, no one should be flying drones out here. The work that these folks are doing is wonderful! 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽

Aloha my Mama taught me that the weeds try to look like the other plants they sometimes look better those are the weeds. I miss my Mama I miss the Rocky mountains I don't miss the snow, yeah I do We have our own baby Grand canyon , When God made this Earth He finished making Hawaii He took what was left over and made Miami Beach if God lives anywhere it's in Hawaii if satan lives anywhere it's in Miami we were instructed to come here, Actual word get out if here as fast as you can so we retired here.
