@Caprizonica5 жыл бұрын
Of course it's not a competition. Was Whitney ever a songwriter? Dolly was already a millionaire before this song. Elvis wanted the song and she refused because his people wantef the rights. She already had money enough to say no. She really wanted Elvis to sing it but not under those conditions She already knew her value back then. But do you know whom she gave her song to just because she thought she could sing anything? Linda Ronstadt. Whitney's version is based on hers and never gets recognition for that. Go listen to it and you'll realize Whitney wasn't that of a genius. It's just an overproduced version of Linda's. Dolly contacted Whitney's producers to to tell them to add the last verse Linda had removed. Whitney's mother used to be Linda's backup singer so I bet Whitney had already had heard the song, contrary to that story that Kevin Costner came out with the song.

Whitney was not a songwriter. Dolly is a songwriter, and it's her song. What Whitney was was a MASTER of musical interpretation, so it's as if she wrote every song she sung. It is a completely different song from Dolly’s. But Whitney doesn’t get credit for that either. The arranger does. Whitney sang the mess out of that song and arrangement but even Dolly acknowledges that. But the world knows this is Dolly’s written song. Whitney’s version paid Dolly so well that Dolly honestly doesn’t give a shit what you say about it as long as you cut Dolly the check🤣

Dolly wrote this song when she was leaving her singing partner Porter Waggoner to strike out on her own. The most heartfelt rendition is the very first time she sang it, saying goodbye to him on his show. So gentle and sweet. The song is timeless.

Dolly is so extremely gracious, loving, Christian and ONE SMART business lady who shares her wealth with many through her various charities. I have always loved Dolly. I’ve never been a fan of her music or her voice for years, but slowly her personality combined with her mega song writing talents pulled me in. That voice, her tiny little body and that HUGE HEART. (I know ya’ll were thinking I was gonna say something else!)

Pure class, as usual, by Dolly. She gives credit where due (Whitney sang it beautifully and powerfully) and took credit gracefully. ("I wrote that song 18 years ago")

She is the epitome of graciousness… I wonder if she is aware of her own stature being a legend herself. I will wish you all the best Dolly.

One of the greatest songwriters ever. She wrote I will Always love you and Jolene in one evening. Now - that's good! Not only extremely talented, but also a very, very shrewed business woman. She once said: "I don t mind when they call me a dumb blonde, because I know that I am not dumb and I am certainly not blonde."I like her. And she is a decent woman.

I love how she admired Whitney and her talent, as well as her take on her song, it seems like there was a genuine respect there.

One thing I will say about Dolly, is that not only is she still stunning, but she doesn't lie! In Every interview, her responses have been consistent and unchanged. Like Judge Judy says, if you don't lie, you don't have to have a good memory!

Dolly is such a remarkably humble and kind woman, you can really see how proud and impressed she was with Whitney's version of it. You don't see this much class from a lot of performers these days.

Dolly Parton is a class act Diva... seriously... I love Whitney Houston, but she was a diva all about her own recognition... Dolly has no problem sharing and appreciating other women’s gifts... love Dolly...

To me Whitney’s rendition was absolutely groundbreaking and so strong, but Dolly’s was so genuine and vulnerable.

Dolly is no push over. The lady is VERY smart. But she also has the most beautiful gentle and humble spirit which envelopes her in a bubble of “lovely”. I defy ANYONE to even TRY to dislike this lady. It can’t be done.

Dolly is such a down to earth and genuine person. Too bad more people aren’t like her. This world would be a much better place.
