Really interesting stuff, been looking at materials that are easy to postprocess(sand or acetone smooth), and gonna try a roll of this filament to see how it goes. On normal PLA i use a thin mixture of water with plaster and brush it on the whole model, make it watery then just let it dry. It will cover all the layer lines and make the PLA sandable.

Bought a roll of Colorfab PLA PHA to test it out with acetone and does work like in the video, the model turns white almost instantly, but it is smoother to the touch. Tested with a part sanded before acetone, wet sanded before acetone and just acetone, the wetsand and sand are a bit smoother, but the surface after it turns white makes it easier to sand, after applying it on a surface it becomes cool to the touch. Tested this acetone which is a mixture of acetone,butyl acetate,alcohol and parafinnum liquidium on regular PLA and that also turned white and made the surface smooth, quite bizarre.

Id wait a bit after acetone treatment at least an hour as its kind of soft and sanding almost produces no dust. For optimal results wait till its hard or else yoy might deform your model pressing too hard.

@@Cloakfiend Yes, will try different things, thanks for the info, added primer over the surfaces to see the results. The wetsand + acetone looks good as does the drysand+acetone on the Colorfabb, the regular PLA looks kinda random. This mixture evaporates so fast, in a couple of seconds it's gone and in 2-3 sec the white appears. These are just texts on large cube blocks to see how it works but it looks pretty good so far.

Low temp heat gun 50'c will do it.

Does any colorfabb plastic work? Also how do you copper plate your prints? Could you do a video on that?

Any pla/pha smooths. Some colours are more reactive some less. Some dry longer some absorb less. Experiment!

You can always try more acetone and follow it will moisturizer.

@@Cloakfiend Why not just prime and coat the part?
@Cloakfiend5 жыл бұрын
@@TheIcemanModdeler because its smoother with acetone than primer. If i plate something you can really see the lines. With acetone and a touch of sanding on large plain areas you cant.

@John F30 not for a mirror finish. You need to fill and sand and repeat. But with acetone it makes things much easier. Even the sanding is easier after. Check my ig account to see my plated models. All photos are untouched and close ups. No lines. Minimal sanding. Mostly plated i need to get back into painting as i havent done it in years!

@John F30 no. I age them. I apply acids and stuff to them to get nice surface finishes you simply couldnt acheive otherwise.

For black plastics try SOLUTION FINISH

I have loads of black pla/pha but transparent is better in my opinion, to smooth anyway.
