Close look at the ATLASGAL image of the plane of the Milky Way

This video takes a close look at a new image of the Milky Way released to mark the completion of the APEX Telescope Large Area Survey of the Galaxy (ATLASGAL). The APEX telescope in Chile has mapped the full area of the Galactic Plane visible from the southern hemisphere for the first time at submillimetre wavelengths - between infrared light and radio waves - and in finer detail than recent space-based surveys.
The APEX data, at a wavelength of 0.87 millimetres, shows up in red and the background blue image was imaged at shorter infrared wavelengths by the NASA Spitzer Space Telescope as part of the GLIMPSE survey. The fainter extended red structures come from complementary observations made by ESA's Planck satellite.

While NASA does great work this particular Astrophysics endeavor concerning the center of our Milky Way is rather a ESA mission headed by Richard Genzel from the Max Plank Institute. But they obviously used Spitzer, which is a NASA Space Telescope for some of the data. The one guy claiming NASA hides stuff, proof it. Aliens? Why Spitzer - why Tess? Why the Rovers on Mars? All of these are actually looking more or less for life. These conspiracy theories are boring.

I would like to k ow that the future generations will be able to experience interstellar space travel.

Seeing the vastness of our universe is the only true reason I would wish for immortality. I would find nothing better in this world than to be launched into the cosmos to explore it for billions of years. To witness the universe at only a fraction of its area would be a dream come true. I hope that we as a species can survive ourselves. For if we can do that, then we will have the ability to reach our true potential. A potential that is far greater in power than the gods we as a species once created. For all we know... we may be the only intelligent life in the entire universe. But we will never be able to truly find the truth of this subject if we do not learn to evolve far beyond the mindset of obedience we have given to our masters for thousands of years. Rule over yourselves...then rule over the distances of the Cosmos.

+Elvishman14 It took a while for me to sort this out. The birthing spiral galaxy's angular momentum negates gravity. However, uneven accretion matter distribution initiates the magnetic effect; leaving behind the wonder that we see, above, in band like structures.

This is amazing to look at. But we've been looking at the skies with amazement for eons. We are a curious people who have spent countless resources to do little more than...look (APEX costs one billion US alone). All we can do is make guesses as to what star systems contain planets and further, which planets are habitable. Current research points to Wolf 1061 c as being the nearest planet in the habitable zone. At 14 light years from Earth, it would take more than 230,000 years to reach (@ 40,000 mph). So, if we feel confident we have found an Earth-like planet, we will not be going. And if we find an inhabited planet, we will not be able to communicate. It appears that our place in the universe is to observe but never touch. To dream but never leave. We are utterly stranded. Perhaps we should only glance at the stars but reach for mankind.
@Achachucha

+rador7 Though an incredibly poetic conclusion, it is at the same time a very pessimistic one. It doesn't account for very likely future advances who will push the boundaries of what is unimaginable today. We only seem to be really somewhat able to grasp what happens in our short lifespans and everything before and after is not for us to terminally decide. Anything is possible.

Even if we had the capability. Mankind is not ready to inhabit or colonize another planet. There would literally be "star wars", fighting over planets instead of borders on earth.
