Hey! Veteran cloth diaper user here. Our third is 16 months and we have used motherease onesize diapers for all 3 with all three kids, it is a fitted diaper and cover system. we love them! And I love that they are made in Ontario (Canada) so they are also an ethical choice in that regard. For the new born stage my bf, sister and I share and combine our new born stashes and when our baby out grows them pass them to whoever is expecting next. We also really love the bedwetters that motherease makes for our toddlers overnight, the best!

We love love LOVE cloth diapers!!! 4 Month old is about to graduate from her Newborn Thirsties Natural AIO (all in ones) to Regular Thristies Natural AIO. Super Easy and no blowouts EVER as compared to disposable. I’m a new mom and we used to the cloth right out of the hospital. We also highly recommend the Bubula Diaper pal works for both cloth and disposables. We’ve used a combo of inserts (Thisties Hemp Duo, Clothezz and GMD [Green Mountain Diapers] Hemp Doubles) so far they all work great for a heavy wetting 4 month old. Check out the GMD Hemp Doubles if you want more of a stay dry affect (they are slightly cheaper than Thirsties. Best of both worlds. You’ve got me inspired to use cloth wipes!!!

I'm 4 kids in on cloth diapers and I love the prefold and cover combo, too, especially for the tiny stage. I love that we don't get blowouts in them. I think if more people knew that, more people would cloth diaper! I love pockets for mobile babies, they are just so quick and easy when your toddler won't stay still. I'm so glad you're enjoying CDing so far!

We've been cloth diapering for nearly a year. I started with mostly pocket diapers but I hated pulling out the gross insert and didn't have enough when we started to wash every 3 days (which was ideal for my work/personal schedule) so we added covers as they are more affordable. Now I have a split between pockets which I use mostly for naps because they are staydry and covers with origami folded flats and padfolded prefolds. I see so many people on the internet saying to try everything and buy a bunch of different styles/brands and it is so refreshing to see someone just show what worked for them after doing research. I am totally guilty of overbuying which sadly negates a lot of the fiscal and environmental reasons I started cloth diapering but now I'm passing on a bunch of my gently used diapers to my brother in law who can't afford the initial investment and planning to use the diapers I have on another baby.

So cool that you're cloth diapering! I work at a cloth diaper service/company in LA called "Luludew" (you should check us out). Bamboo terry inserts are super absorbent for night time use too! It seems like you got a great system going. It always makes me happy to see people my age choosing to cloth diaper their babies. So many stigmas behind it, it's sad. More people should give cloth diapers a chance! Thanks for the video :)

When I nannied for my first cloth-diapering family I was intimidated too! The intimidation was followed by surprise at the ease. They had a few of every kind of diaper- while the all-in-ones and pocket diapers were super cute, I really preferred the prefolds. Fewer leakages, easier to store clean and quicker to dry, smaller to store when soiled (in a wet bag while out and about in or a soaking pail at home)... Plus the prefolds are great for spit up & wiping up spills! I really liked using cloth diapers and plan to use them if I have children. I didn't think they added a whole lot of extra work- we even managed to cloth diaper when we stayed in hotels for a couple weeks at a time, as the mother had to travel with work often. (Although one time house keeping got confused and did throw away a whole bag of the precious things!) Do you just throw the diapers in the liner or do you soak them in a water and baking soda/vinegar mixture?

I just throw them in my diaper pail and wash them every other day.

My mom is pretty intimidated still by cloth. My GroVia Ones came with these velcro bits that snapped onto their snaps so you can close it like a disposable. Which I think you can get for most covers. It's great for nighttime diapers so you can make sure there isn't any gaps!

You're not supposed to use a wet pail. It damages cloth nappies and it is a drowning hazard for the baby. All you do is clean off the poop and put them in a dry nappy bin to wash later. A lot easier.

What use is all in ones, and then whenever I think about checking if he’s wet, I put him over his baby potty before changing him and he normally goes per or poo! I love that our diaper and wash "situation" is so similar. I started before you and there have been so many days where people say that I should have gone with AIO or pockets because they're easier and i actually think this is easier. Not saying I needed YOUR validation on my system lol but if someone I don't know does the same thing then obviously others probably do too. So I'm not the crazy lady. The only thing I found is I need more covers, not a TON but i need around 10 for our little, she's 3 months and some days the poop situation is just insane and she gets poop on EVERY SINGLE COVER hahaha.

Can you make a video about how you take care of the diapers, meaning how is your process to wash and clean in your machine what kind of products and temperatures you use that help take the stains out and stuff like that. Thanks so much for this video and all the effort you put in them! 😍

I have an almost 3 week old boy and we started cloth diapering around 6 days old. My sister did cloth diapers so I was super fortunate to receive a bunch of different types of cloth diapers but using the prefolds with the jelly roll is by far my favorite. Erin G I would suggest buying one or two of each such as prefold and cover, pocket, or all in one. It also depends how old your baby is or how much he/she weighs. My baby was born 7lbs but his legs were tiny and luckily I had newborn diapers because the one size diapers would not fit properly. While I was pregnant I watched a lot of different KZbinrs to decide what I wanted to try and what will work for me. Some of my favorite cloth diaper channels were: Jays Nest 5 minute cloth Jess is bless There are more but good places to start Good luck, and remember you can just try one or two and see if it’s for me. You can cloth diaper however it works for you(there is no specific way to cloth diaper)

Back in 70's cloth diapers were it. No pre-folds just a diaper square and full plastic cover to put over it. I still have nightmares of the diaper pins. I still tease my cousin's about changing thier diapers. Only thing I disliked was washing the poop out. I was only 8 but a champion diaper changer. I applaud women who want to do it. It does have a few more steps but really worth it. The early version's of Pampers the tape didn't stick very well. If you didn't get them in the right place they would come undone. A few time's that happened my cousins would run around the house naked thinking it was hilarious. The modern cloth diapers are so easy to work with. Oh and when your doing the prewash cycle you can add some vinegar instead of bleach. It will disinfect and also keep your diapers from staining far better the bleach.

Cloth diapers are amazing! My son is 13 months now but we have been using them since he was little. A few things: -be careful putting the covers in the dryer often. It can ruin the PUL (that waterproof liner) and the elastic. Every once in a while is totally fine though! - We had a few of the Lil' Joey's all in ones in newborn size that my son grew out of very quick (he was 10lbs 6oz at birth) but they were too darned ADORABLE and I couldn't resist! But I agree with you guys - they're great but not necessary. - if you have the chance to try a pocket, do it. I like our Applecheeks a lot but our Alvas are great too. - A tip for boys: once you do the pad fold, fold the top part down a little bit again (basically the part where his man bits would sit. I say man bits because I'm not sure if KZbin would flag me for saying the name lol). It offers extra absorbency! Definitely has saved us. -overnights, the only ones that have worked for us has been GroVia One. The only absorbency that has worked for us! They're a great company too. Little mom and pop out of Montana. I will be curious how those hemp doubles work! I have basic hemp liners and they're my favorite. Whichever you do, make sure you rinse them before putting them in your pail. There's more pee in overnight ones and that can cause issues in the long run if they aren't rinsed. Trust me! I've learned the hard way lol it may not be a big issue now, but it will later when he is sleeping longer stretches. - If you have a Once Upon A Child by you, keep an eye out. I've found a bunch of liners and diapers there.. even Applecheeks which are the fancy brand!

Victoria! I have been using your idea to use a fleece liner to keep baby feeling dry overnight, and it’s sort of working! BUT we’ve had a few leaks because it seems the fleece is TOO effective in repelling liquid and it’s all just leaking out the back instead of going through the fleece into the prefold (if that makes sense!?) It’s a polyester fleece I’m using, I wonder what yours is? And what you reckon about that? Please help! Hmmmm! (Ps thanks for your videos, I watched them a bunch before baby was born and still re-watching to help guide me on cloth diapers - or nappy here in Australia! You’re a legend) x

How much did baby weight when you started using them? Would small prefolds work from the beginning instead of newborn?
@FemmeHead

Theo was 8 lbs 6 oz when he was born and we used the newborn size for the first 10 weeks. Depending on your baby's size you could probably skip those and just start with small. I just fold the front down on the prefolds if they're too big and it works great.

You have to get the poop out of the diaper preferably using a diaper sprayer, you dispose of the poop in your toilet and then put the diapers in the wetbag until you are ready to wash.
@JA420love

The poop is liquid until the babies are on solid food. So the poop goes away the same way the pee goes away. In the pre rinse cycle of the wash 🧼 when baby starts eating solids and pooping solids then the poop goes in the toilet 🚽

I’ve done some research and calculations because we are expecting right now. We are planning to spend ~$280 for a very similar setup as Victoria’s (same or similar brands for everything) and I saw on the internet that all-disposable diapering could cost something like $2600 (of course, varies a lot depending on the brand you go for and where you shop). But even if you include the cost of washing, we are still saving at least $2K.

I used to think we’d do cloth diapers but it seems like so much washing! we live in an apartment complex where it’s a bit of a walk across the complex to get to the laundry room. I can’t imagine having to walk back and forth with baby multiple times each washing day to run multiple cycles of washing and then moving to the dryer multiple times a week. Sounds like something more manageable if you have your own washer/dryer in your place.

It's definitely doable. We don't have our own washer and we don't have one in walking distance either. We are a bus or Lyft ride away. We use flats and 100% cotton inserts and I wash them 2x a week. We need other laundry washed on the same schedule, so I just take our wetbags full of diapers and wash everything at the same time. It is kind of nice to have multiple washers because I can throw the diapers in one machine, the clothes in one machine, the towels in one machine, etc. No extra time commitment at all.

I took the newborn class from Taking Cara Babies and also read the book Baby Wise. He's 8 weeks old at the moment and usually does a 5-7 hour long stretch at night now (he did 8 hours the other night 🥳Michael and I were shocked haha).

What's keeping me from doing it? LEAKS! I swear everytime I've tried to to do it I've had a leak 😭

Really? Oh no! I’ve only had leaks at night when he did a long stretch of sleep. But I think it can depend on the diaper. We had a few little joeys that he would always leak out of and have blow outs with. Not sure what I was doing wrong because everyone swears by them. But my prefolds/cover combo has worked beautifully.

So you just put the poop in the washing machine? I thought you have to rinse it off!

You don't have to rinse off the diapers if they are breastfed until they start eating solids

I’m planning on doing cloth diapers! My sister in law does and and has for her two youngest boys and she loves it. She uses all in ones and pocket diapers and then with the pocket diapers she just sets them all up once they are clean and dry so my brother doesn’t complain haha but he loves them too, he’s just lazy 😂

I love that there are all different types so you can find something that works for everyone who might change their diaper. I’m going to look into a few pocket or “easier” diapers for when family watches him.
