I used to be sooo against dog clothes. Then I adopted my boy Robert. He would stand and shiver when the wind blew so I got him a coat. Then I got him a rain coat, then a lighter rain mac for summer rain, then a light jumper for the wind when it wasnt raining... I have no issue with dog clothes anymore, as long as they are functional and based on the needs of the dog. Those frilly skirts and fluffy hoods are pointless, you can still get pretty functional coats for dogs if they are needed.

Exactly! Its gotta be practical! Some dogs need clothes for protection such as smaller and short haired breeds working outside in bad conditions. Same with shoes and doggy sunglasses - working dogs might require these to prevent injury

My 13yo toy fox terrier suffers from incontinence (even vet says same). Our TFT was my mil’s dog for 8-9yrs of her life until mil’s health ultimately deteriorated to the point she wasn’t able to stay in her home & has continued to deteriorate to the point she needs around the clock nursing care so she can’t live w us. I promised to take care of her little girl. Yes, my dog wears a PeeKeeper ‘escape-proof diaper’ even tho she doesn’t try to take it off anymore. She wears it bc her body style isn’t too conducive to wearing regular dog diapers. And, the PeeKeeper diaper was originally designed for a geriatric incontinent toy fox terrier who would have otherwise ended up being euthanized rather than adopted/rescued. Tink is the only animal in the house. She does wear it in the car but not when out on the ground where she can freely urinate/defecate. It’s on her when we go in stores like Lowe’s w exception of the garden center but I do bring wet & dry wipes. As for clothing, she has sweaters, onesie type clothing tho it’s not buttoned in the crotch area; she wears pjs at night in the winter. That being said, we have a gas pack central unit, which has become rather expensive to run these last several or so yrs due to increased prices of propane. I run a small radiator style electric heater in the bedroom. I set the thermostat to approx 55 degrees when it’s cold out; the bedroom heater sits at around 62-65. I wear sweats, tees, cardigan style sweaters, & cabin socks to stay warmer too. Hubby grumbled until I showed him the bills. Granted, I’m a bit tighter about power/propane usage as I’ve become older & living on a tighter budget but I’ve always been one to run my home this way since it saves precious AND expensive resources. The thermostat is set to run a bit warmer in the spring, summer, & fall of the year. The house warms up nicely in fall, winter, & early spring due to my baking. Cooking & baking provides heat without waste. When I’m working in the house I bump the central/gas pack up or down slightly. Tink wears a heavier sweater but no diaper for her daily walks in the winter. She wears a tee shirt or similar in the summer to protect her skin. I bring both our water bottles too. Given Tink’s age, the vet tells us to keep doing what we do bc she’s doing well given her age.

I have been against doggy clothes for a long time. Only time im not against them is only if they feel cold outside or its raining. They they can use clothes but not like skirts or similar. Only dog friendly.

My Chihuahua where's a hoodie in late night walks because it's usually freezing and he gets sick very easily. He never wears them inside and they're taken off straight after, it's just on really cold nights. Certain situations is ok, but for no reason? I agree, it's totally ridiculous. There's no need.

My dog is a bichpoo and she actual is perfectly fine wearing doggy clothes like dresses , but I only have her put on a cute dress during like a house party and for 30min or so ... but she is always freezing cold during winter time so during walks we have to put on a hoodie if its 60 out or a winter jacket. Clothes should always be last resort, but if it's too cold and theres no other option thats ok. I'll argue that rain might not be enough reason to put a hoodie on a dog. Their bodies can take the water just fine, it's better they are wet but confortable, than dry but unconfortable

This is probably my favorite couple Victoria has helped. Everyone makes mistakes. Clothes are adorable on dogs. I can see why she likes dressing them up. But it takes real dedication to fully accept your mistakes and fix them. These two women were 100% dedicated to fixing the issue. They didnt talk back to Victoria, they didnt blame it on eachother, they staright up said they did wrong and they took full responsibility. Cheers to them. Their two adorable puppers are in the hands of the best family ever. Heck, these two women alone, are far more responsible and caring for their fur babies, than my parents are for their 1 Lhasa Apso. Im so proud to see a couple like this on this show. I hope their dogs live a beautiful, long, happy life, because they have it all. 😊

I can't even imagine putting one on my little chihuahua. He would fight me the whole time and would probably rip it off within minutes. Also, don't most dogs lick themselves regularly? My dog loves to lick his legs and tail, and a diaper would definitely get in the way of that.

I tried putting on a diaper on one of my Chihuahuas when she was in heat. But she’s so small (2 lbs) that even the smallest size wouldn’t cover her coochie the right way. So I still had to clean up after her. Now she’s on birth control.

Just like any other dog: small dogs needs socializing and training. If you don’t: you end up with a scared and yappy dog. I have 2 Chihuahuas that are very well behaved because I treat them like dogs and not like children or princesses.

You can try to kitty litter train a Yorkie, my aunt’s Yorkie used to have one in case he needed to pee during the night. They are little dogs with little bladders, they need to pee hourly.

I live in northern MN and have a greyhound. He wears a jacket outside in the winter and a cooling vest in the summer. I put boots on him if the pavement is really hot. There are reasonable times to put cloths on certain breeds. But that pj stuff was very bad for the dogs.

I used to know a lot of Staffs and Pits, especially when they are older, who need a coat if its cold or rainy. Short fur, no doublelayered hair, bad joints out of age... they are thankfull for a bit protection. But to permanently dress a dog up? Not helpfull. I have German Shorthaired Pointers, and one of my adult boys loves to play dress ups with my daughter. He runs upstairs with her, gets scarves, socks, backpacks, hats, necklaces, etc and then joyfully runs back downstairs to show off his outfit. Once he's been thoroughly admired he runs back upstairs for a wardrobe change and comes back to show off his new look. It's hysterical. None of my other dogs are at all interested in playing dress ups but Ceyx will play for hours, big goofball. (Its this look at me attitude that makes him such a fantastic show dog 🤩) As for dog clothes - a good, close fitting winter coat is good for short coated dogs in very cold weather. But the frufru outfits are just ridiculous, and most are very uncomfortable for the dogs.

I got a cute red jumper for a foster dog who was naturally lean and would shiver when it was cold outside. He loved it. He went out one Halloween and found banana dog costume. It was comfortable and doggy friendly, actually acting as a light sweater. It was delightful keeping him warm when he needed it and watching this doggy banana run joyfully through the yard 🥰🤣🐶

Luckily/Unluckily my second dog came from the first dog, and we haven’t fixed them yet but sometimes they don’t get along which totally goes with the fact they’re not spayed, but other than that they get along. But if I adopted, I wouldn’t even consider them to not get along.

Had the opposite happen. I thought my dog seemed lonely and I thought a playmate might make her happier. Instead she completely avoided the new dog and started hiding under the bed most of the time. Tasha was my baby and I wasn't going to force her to live like that so I ended up having to take the new dog back to the shelter.

@meowdalyn sadly, it's super common :( Dogs are all different and we humans don't always remember that we don't want to live with just any human and dogs are the same. Some are just happier as an only dog and I think we tend to worry that they need to have friends. Some dogs really don't want friends, and that's ok.

Sometimes it’s not apparent at first and it builds overtime when owners aren’t paying attention how they are interacting daily. As a child, we had a dog that hated other dogs but got a long well with the puppy we got (and got her pregnant, oops. He was fixed after that). But at least with adoption, it’s important you have the dog meet your other dogs and make sure they are all okay with each other, then keep an eye on the situation for the next few months.

Emily Vieira This was definitely something so bizarre to me when I was a kid! We had to stay overnight with family friends that adopted our dogs’ one puppy. I don’t recall if “dad” interacted at all, but I have a vivid image of my female dog and her daughter being held apart wanting to fight each other. My parents told me at the time her puppy was being protective of her new home and they probably didn’t remember they were mom and daughter after a couple of months. Neither were spayed, I’m certain (our female was never spayed until she was older and got sick).

My mom had to put diapers on one of her dogs, but only because our dog had an abscess near his butt. It was just very oozy and messy. Fortunately we had gotten him medicine to get rid of it, so he only had the diapers on for I think a week. After that the abscess was gone and no more diapers. Which we all liked, because I think he was embarrassed because only he had it, and not his brother. And my mom and I could feel that.

@@dashtara3074 so called "flexies" (ones that pull in, the ones they use at begning of video) are pretty bad for dogs, mixed signals, very easily uncomfy for dog, also it causes pulling issues. They come from laziness of owner " ah why should I collect leash if I can get one that comes back to me without effort". The only time they are correctly used is when owner keeps leash lose. I helped my friends with their walking issues, most cases of pulling is constant pressure on this leash, often as much as 2 days of work with normal leash fixes pulling

Avika Six Four It depends, my amstaff is impossible to walk on a flexi, but my pug literally refuses to walk on a regular lead :D tried getting him used to one, but since he’d been walked on a flexi for 7y, he was too used to it, and hated the regular on. Out of all the dogs I've had, I have only had to diaper one dog towards the end of his life when he became urinary incontinent. It was actually a little sad to watch him decline. I got my puppy Tater from a chain breeder, I wasn’t expecting to get a puppy but I got him at 3 weeks old, I had to bottle feed him, the he turned 10 weeks AND STARTED TO LOSE HIS HAIR!!! He had mange from his mother and he also had lymph node problems. I went and got him fixed at 10 months old and he couldn’t handle it and passed away due to complications. He turned a year August 21st❤️❤️

Be carefull with sweather and similar textile during snow and rain, because it gets wet and can make the dog even more cold. :) A waterproof vest or something is better, and sweaters are more suited for dry cold. :)

I used to be a believer that dogs don't need coats because that's what their fur is for. Then I was out walking my pooch on a wet day and every time we stopped moving she was violently shivering. I got her a fleece lined waterproof coat and now she's so much more comfortable when on walks. Functional clothes is good. Fancy dress clothes are where it gets rediculous.

My cat likes to be dressed she will literally go and get her clothes and bring them to me. She especially likes to wear her harness (she is my assistance animal) she loves to work and she loves clothes she can take anything off anytime she wants.

I used to put clothes on my dog when my brother was sick. My dog was super caring and understood the situation, she knew that bath and clothes meant go to hospital or permission to enter the part of the house where only humans could. He loved and always smiled when my dog appeared using a dress, but once the visit ends, I would take the clothes off.

I do dress up my fur baby but at the same time he is trained very well. I believe in training when you first get animal or don’t get one. I am not amazed with anyone anymore. My fur baby is a service aid now but training takes a lot. Do the training and enjoy your baby as they grow. ❣️

I mean, small dogs often do get cold in the winter. My previous mini dachshunds and my chihuahua all wear sweaters. My chihuahua wears pajamas because my house is freezing.

These two are some beautiful ladies and a very cute couple ❤ I'm glad they were able to make it work, cause I'd hate to see 2 ppl who obviously love each other break up over these 2 adorable doggies. My hubby always says "If there's a will then there's always a way!" and I find that so true. Dogs in clothes look cute, but they truly don't need them and I'll be honest I did buy a couple of outfits for my doggies before as well lol 😆 Just couldn't help myself! I hope they're all this together as 1 loving unit, cause the owners are just as cute and adorable as the dogs. And the dogs are truly loved by them ❤ I mean how could you not fall in live with these 2 cuties?

The owner loves her dogs too much that she forgot they’re dogs not human babies. I only put dog jacket on my puppy when it’s below 40 or it’s raining outside. He refuses to go outside if I don’t put his jacket on him. But when we’re inside the house, he acts like those jackets are his enemies 🤦🏻‍♀️.

I feel like people saying dogs shouldn't be put in clothes don't realize that not all breeds have the same tolerance for cold. When my family became dog owners for the first time when I was in middle school we only figured out our dog was cold as it started happening. Because she's a moyen poodle and clothes her size aren't really available my mom knit her a couple of sweaters. If she gets hot at any point she knows how to take them off on her own too, which makes things easier, but she happily wears them throughout the colder months and even still naps in front of the space heater most of the time. I'd say pay attention to your dogs and try to meet their needs as they arise. There's no need to put them in clothes unless they're cold and even then, be aware that most dogs will simply tolerate clothes, so don't make them stay in the clothes any longer than necessary.

I actually had a pyjama for my dog because she's sleeping in my bedroom and I sleep with an open window even in winter. She started to try to dig herself into her pillow and wandered around because she was cold, so I crafted her a pyjama She also had a coat for the winter because she came with me to the barn which always takes 3-4 hours. Sadly we had to let her go in february (she was 15 1/2) now I'll have to see if my new dog will need those or not.

People putting clothes on their dogs for no reason is insane! My dog has an immune disease and gets cold really easily, that’s the only reason I put clothes on him. I live in Canada and I wouldn’t be able to take him out in the winter at all if he wasn’t bundled up. When he was healthy he didn’t wear clothes and here in Canada it’s damn cold!! My oldest that passed last year we had no choice but to buy diapers towards the end cause he couldn’t hold his bladder at all and would pee all over himself. These are the only reasons to put clothes or diapers on your pets, medical issues or no fur maybe in cold climates! Pets aren’t meant to wear clothes!

My dogs wears clothes during the winter and sometimes just when it’s cold but I live in Nebraska and one of my dogs wears a diaper because she can’t control her pee I would see those dogs in a jacket if it’s snowing they don’t need the sweaters in the house

Hi Victoria, I agree that dogs should not wear clothes. In our case, we live in neighborhoods with lots of stray cats (and some dogs). As it is important that our dogs to walk twice a day and do their sniffings, they frequently brought back fleas and mites (and horrific ticks a few times). Is there any suggestion for our dogs to get clothing protections without detracting them from communicating one another (yes, they learned teamwork esp during walking) and the rest of the world (we once saw people approaches a barking dog only because she wore cute dresses)?

I will say my standard poodle has a few clothes. He has a sweater that is for football games/school pride events, shoes to protect his feet, a winter coat, a rain coat and a TON of harness. However my dog is a service dog so they can’t be soaked when going into a store. They can’t have a dirty harness on and most importantly protected from the elements. So if you have something on your dog that is functional I see absolutely no problem in clothes for dogs.

Some breeds do need clothes in cold temperatures. I have an Italian Greyhound. Also, Chinese Crested need clothes almost all the time.

This is a true example of people treating their small dogs like human babies and not training them. This couple wants to learn how to properly deal with the dogs, which is great, but they treated those dogs very poorly. Dogs are not human babies and they never will be. People really need to start treating their small dogs like dogs than spoil them and never train. This is why small dogs always have behavioral issues because the owners let them get away with it. Terriers definitely need to be properly trained like a big dog.

Both owners spend most of their day at work. Why do you get dogs then? Let´s say they work for 9 hours a day plus 1 hour on the road (=10h). Then you need to take care of yourself and sleep 6-8 hours at night (=18h/24h). You also need to eat, cook, do chores, go grocery shopping and have showers. Possibly you even want to socialize with other people as well or spend time with your partner. Leaving the dogs with about 1 or 2 hours max on a good day of quality time and on walks. No dog should live like that. Great training results on the walks, although the dogs are walking them. Awesome and loving couple.
