Thanks for this Jenn. I’ve been dealing with conflict with a friend and them fading out of my life for the last 1.5 years. She used to be one of my best friends. In that last part where you normalised that friendships do wax and wane, and that it’s their choice but also their loss, it was like you were speaking straight at me. Thank you for the video ❤

Hi there 👋 I'm the friend who's leaving a friendship, and it sucks. Believe me I feel like shit and am very aware that it's going to be my loss. I've just been in a crappy crappy mental space throughout and couldn't handle anything anymore, not even the basics of being a functioning friend. Trying only made my mental health worse and didn't even work for my friend because all they got was the shitty hurtful version of me. I was just unable to be a person at that point and it had to stop, for my sake and for their sake. It was just too unhealthy. It had to stop. I'm so sorry for the hurt

‘I am not insecure and envious of my friends or my family or anyone close to me no matter what my situation is.’ There I said it too. I am so happy that you talked about it today, because I have always felt it that way but never had the courage to say it boldly. Don’t know why these things need courage to be clear. ❤😊🎉 Well, you’ve unknowingly given me reasons to be proud of this trait in me today. Thank you, Jen. ❤️

Im older than u, let me write down few facts about friendhips that I’ve learned in life so far: - The real ones usually happen naturally, each person put efforts into it, and truly wanna be in each other’s life - Friends are like seasons; they come and go, that saying is true! If u’re lucky u’ll meet few who are like the air u breathe. They will go to that event they dislike just to make sure u’re not alone and safe! - If u are the one who always keep putting more efforts to keep in touch with them, arrange a lunch, or even just a video call, something is wrong! - If they only wanna be in ur life for certain purposes, that’s not friendships, that more just some kinda networking! - The minute negative jealousy and negative competition taking over one person, most likely it’s gonna be toxic and u gotta leave! Sometimes it’s better let things go and move on! It’ll save u and most likely save the other person too! A chapter need to end in order a new one to start!

I’ve NEVER in my life seen your videos or have heard of you. But this video popped up on my feed and I think it was the universe sending me this 😂. I am also 33. Have struggled with friendships and had good times, but at this prime age have started looking within about my friendships and how I treat them and how they treat me. I’ve made so many new friends that have not worked out but that comes with age and the types of friends I want to surround myself with. I am loving my journey even if I am lonely at times 😊. I really want a good circle

People who I thought are my best friends are becoming more like strangers who I share memories with... none checks on me the moment I stop texting. Did this multiple times in the past 5 years and it always ends the same way. The thing that hurts the most is the time, love and effort I put into these friendships for more than half of my life, but at the end I am left all alone. Basically in a room full of people I love and thought are my family, I am in fact alone. I care less if we see each other on a monthly basis... you can live in the same city as me or on another planet. Talking and sharing various things in life are more than enough to feel I matter to you... but seems like I ask for too much and I never learn from being hurt over and over again.

hi Jenn, always love your shine. Although I have been watching you for a long time. It’s my first time commenting. Very well presented here on this topic of friendship. And I love that you say everyone has different versions of ourselves in their heads. Also want to share with you a philosophical phrase that I also agree with :- “I am not who I see I am. you are not who you see you are. I am who I see you are.”

My friend broke up with me over an email, which seemed out of the blue and we lost touch. However, we managed to rekindle after 8 years through a chanced encounter and reconnection! Just go with the flow and a mutual understanding and learning to forgive each other is so key. The beauty in relationships is approaching it with love and kindness, instead of resentment. Thanks Jenn for these insights.. We need to make that effort to maintain our friendships 😄

I love your sisterly chats Jenn! I 100% agree you should accept people as they are but I'd like to add my own experience with the example you gave about having a tardy friend! I of course had that friend too, but I have a conversation about her about how I felt, including how I felt my time wasn't respected. She took it really well, said she was grateful I was open about setting this boundary and has been making an effort to be on time ever since. I let her know perfection isn't what I am asking but the fact she respected me and made changes was something I am super grateful for too! Of course, it depends on the relationship you have with that person and context but if you feel that friend is someone who would be receptive of this kind of talk and capable of making some changes, I would encourage others to consider this an option too :)

My boyfriend and I have a mutual friend who is absolutely always late. He is the type of dude who tells you he is heading to ur place at 9pm but get there at 1 - 2 AM. We always try to hang out but since he always comes so late we either tell him we want to plan out a hang out if he wants to hang out same day and we will always plan so he comes earlier. He is a great friend and has been there for us for a long time even before we started dating, he is just not great at coming on time.

Friendship breakups are definitely rough, but what you said about it being okay to let a friendship end when that friend is hostile and defensive to you really rang true for me. My ex best friend invited me to Japan but when I arrived she ignored me the whole trip and hung out with her own friends, speaking Japanese and not talking to me. It was really confusing and when I tried to talk to her about it she was defensive and denied she was doing anything. I ended up catching an early flight home, I just couldn't bear it anymore. She reached out 4 months later to apologize and said she still considered me her best friend but I have cut that cord. It was probably harder than a romantic breakup.

Thanks soo much for this video Jenn!! Literally this video dropped when I was just thinking about the friendships in my life and I love how u described everything, especially UNICORN FRIENDS aaaah I love that soooo much😍😍😍 totally related to everything you said. I feel im usually the friend who reaches out the most and when you said we shouldnt like keep tallies on who asked who and all that i was like OMGGGG. like for reals i was saying to a friend the other day you cant rely on things and friends to make things happen for you, like we have to try and reach out! I get people go through their seasons and most times alot of people have a lot on their plate and are busy but I cant help but wish my friends would ask me to hang first instead of me most of the time. I love the idea of writing all your friends and aquaintences down and ones u generally want to know more , thats soo helpful and brilliant. Love you Jenn! your advice and wisdom mean so much to me and its soo relatable. I will defz be watching this video when I need to remind myself about my friendships ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Friend are not easy to keep in touch anymore because this person ask for to much from you. When you have a family of your own it's not easy to keep in touch as before. Being there for each other doesn't mean you got to be there physically. Thinking of each other throughout our life is enough. ❤
@jazmynnv5831
@jazmynnv5831 5 ай бұрын
It’s a bit concerning how many people liked this. I hope you find friends that are okay with the occasional check in a few times a year but it is not wrong or “asking too much” for a friend to be physically present in your life especially if you live in the same city. Some people such as myself value quality time and presence during important or even everyday moments.
@CambieSweets
@CambieSweets 5 ай бұрын
@@jazmynnv5831Yeah, the “person asks too much” signaled to me, this person doesn’t have the capacity to show up in that friendship in the way the other person needs. To think someone’s asking for too much or that they’re too much is not kind. She should communicate that to her friend or possibly compromise and agree on a way to show up in the relationship that feels good to both parties.

Hi hi my husband & I are a few yrs older than you with 2 little ones… Soo most of my “friends” aren’t as such anymore…I just refer to them as my former classmates….bc we haven’t kept in touch since graduation etc. and didn’t reconnect or anything like that we tried but everyone’s “so busy” with work, life, babies etc… or just can’t relate bc we’re on different paths ….but oh well, it’s family that matters most now. Take care

My oldest sister was One of my best Friends as a Kid, nowadays she's really mean to my family and honestly to anyone. I felt obligated to keep having a relationship with her, but Had a bellyache every time we were ment to meet. She Is SO MEAN. I told her about it a few times and She started crying each time saying I was cruel and cold and unsensitive. I was trying to organized a meeting since She complained about my Kids not even knowing her anymore, and realized how much I dread the day. Then and there I decided I want to let go. This is hurting me right now and I don't find a way to change It. So I decided not to try anymore.
