I didn’t notice it until now because of how beautifully this video showcases it but I truly adore how Cloud handles Tifa. It’s in the subtle moments he grabs her to redirect her towards safety, always constant always protective of her. I love watching his hands and how they reach for her to protect her, shield her, catch her, or comfort her. SE really struck gold with depicting the relationship of these two through actions rather than words which makes us all think towards the Highway scene. If anyone says there isn’t love between these two I think they’re in sheer denial. Just saying, I have plenty of close guy friends who don’t treat me the way Cloud does for Tifa. That’s love dude.❤️

Choonghan Kok Where did you get that? Because according to canon material, he immediately settles down with Tifa after the end of OG FF7 on his own volition. He found a peace and happiness living with Tifa that he never experienced before which conversely made him anxious of losing that due to his past failures along with guilt (Zack and Aerith specifically) as mentioned in 10th anniversary Ultimania. Afterwards, he got geostigma which he finally cracked and left a few days prior to the start of AC due to finally cracking. In the end, he returned to Tifa and the kids after regaining his confidence. His love for Tifa is real. Regardless, that doesn’t matter now because they are going off a new canon. And in this one, the Cloud Tifa moments are even more.

They are neglecting every proof put in front of them that came even from the devs themselves just because they don't want to believe it. They are molding the facts and theories in the way they want to. And we could clearly see cloud's genuine emotion and love for Tifa in the scene in which he was hugging her, he kinda lost in that feeling that much that he held/hugged her really tight that led to Tifa saying, "Cloud, you're hurting me!" and if even this much clue is not enough to make them realise the love between cloud and Tifa, idk what will be, 'cause in the end, haters gonna hate no matter what

I went back to watch all the Cloud and Tifa cutscenes from remake and rebirth and there are so many of them! I just finished reading Trace of Two Past and I love how it embellishes their narrative and backstory. They were really smitten with each other since they were kids. I’m beyond excited to see what’s coming in part 3.

I hope everyone understands why their relationship isn't as simple as just being able to tell each other how they feel, and no, this has nothing to do with the writers trying to keep everything ambiguous (okay, it technically does, but you know what I mean). For Cloud, Tifa is the ideal person he yearns to care for but feels he cannot until he proves to _himself_ that he's worthy of her. It all started with the Mt. Nibel incident; even though Cloud was in no way at fault, he still took the blame because he felt he was weak. Since then, every conscious decision he's made regarding her has been about getting stronger for her sake. He's haunted by his feeling of inadequacy, so we never see a moment when he feels he's done enough to deserve her affection, but he's always there to protect and support her in her time of need. For Tifa, Cloud is the one holding her together because he's the last link to everything she cherished. She's already lost everything from her childhood and youth: family, friends, hometown, etc., and while AVALANCHE has become her family, they also have family of their own. She has nothing and nobody left except Cloud. This is why, even as Cloud's inconsistent personality confounded her, she still held onto hope that he was the real deal, and this belief and dedication is what ultimately allows her to piece him back together and save him. She needs him, and she can't be the reason he's not there; this, in combination with her emotional turmoil, is why she doesn't risk outright telling him.

I love the atmosphere between them cuz everything is so ambiguous and yet you can still tell that they are really meant to be. And thats exactly how the japanese script writers manage the couples, everybody knows they love and care each other, but they just wont tell each other.

Zack is there for Aerith so we don't have to worry about her. And when Aerith died, she finally met her true love in the lifestream (advent children) and the writers absolutely did that on purpose so that the couple will be complete, by leaving Aerith with Zack in afterlife while Cloud and Tifa in this world and those clerith lovers need to realise this thing, who understand Cloud's relationship as a love triangle. And I think (kinda my theory), since there is a huge possibility that the characters fate will be altered in the next part due to absence of the whispers, we can get to see their relationship getting clear and confirmed by the writers itself by making things clear and remove the doubts from their audience. I love all the Cloti scenes and foreshadowing but the part where Tifa saves Cloud in the ShinRa building and says: "You must be better than this if you wanna play the Hero" (or something similar) and Cloud smiles while Tifa's theme plays on the background... Another level for me. That was too much. She knows Cloud is a hero, soldier o not. And she is going to be by his side till the end because she knows a hero still needs some help. Tifa is Cloud's hero, like Zack was before his dead.

@@leomajardine1294 Indeed he does. The dialogue triggers if you speak to Andrea when Cloud and co. walk from the destroyed sector 7 through sector 6 on their way to Aerith's house to find Marlene. It's even more poignant in JPN. Anyan (Andrea's JPN name) asks Cloud, "Did you find that extremely important thing you were looking for?" giving it even more weight.

I love this edit. Nowdays I feel people just want to rush relationships without getting to know one another. Square Enix really builds up history between these two. Aerith may have given Cloud a 'fireworks' moment (see Cloud reaction to red dress), but Tifa is the one he is most comfortable with. There are 2 types of love illustrated between this triangle, the one that's exciting but burns you and the homefire that warms you... Tifa is a right choice for him.

I’m glad you included the andrea line for me it’s pretty important and the fact that some people could miss it! It means so much to me and cloud not denying that tifa is his important person. The remake made me believe in them even more what they have truly is different from everyone else! Silvana Sanchez one scene, just the lifestream sequence (that cleriths love to ignore or twist) if they didn’t somehow cancel it and included it in the remake it’ll be more than enough evidence once again that tifa is all cloud has ever thought about and loved I mean if cloud didn’t want to become a soldier to impress her there’d never be a story there he even took on zack’s persona because he was ashamed and afraid of making tifa disappointed but we all know she was so glad and happy to have him again even if he never made it into soldier. Cloud can’t go on without tifa in the next installments so cleriths will have to deal with whatever comes next a kiss or more than a kiss they will find a way to twist it and bring cloti down I mean it’s all just a way for them to feel better about their ship so I’m not that much bothered by them anymore they can scream all they want what’s canon is canon the scenes the quotes from all the ultimanias and novels. All I’m gonna do is sit down and enjoy the cloti we got and we will get in next installments so buckle up. Also I don’t know what they will do with zack now but I think we will see a good amount of zerith so I can only imagine how chaotic it’ll be on their side but I have always thought that SE made it clear (especially in ACC) that it’s cloti and zerith but they still tell us “it’s up to the player” to avoid a possible backlash even the remake was leaning more towards tifa’s relationship with cloud and it’s very noticeable when you play the game with the japanese dub! The english dub was unnecessarily framing the “love triangle” and I could be wrong but that’s how I felt.

The part were tifa told him about how much ass she can kick and he said i know and let her go. To me was one of the most important scenes, It shows that cloud trusts her, in her wits and abilities, and most importantly he knows how to let her go. He is protective of her but not over protective. That is a healthy relationship, when there is trust and carrying, and he only went back for her when he realized in how much danger she really is. This man is willing to sacrifice his ego and his manhood for this woman... if thats not love then i don't know what that is.

It's more than that, Aerith knows Cloud loves Tifa. In the English translation, when Aerith tells Cloud he needs to save Tifa, she says "aren't you worried what might happen in there?" But in the Japanese source dialgoue, she says "taisetsu na hito desho?" meaning "she's the person you cherish, right?" The phrase "taisetsu na hito," meaning "cherished person," is the same phrase Aerith used when telling Elmyra her husband passed away: "Taisetsu na hito ga shinjattayo" (The person you cherish has died). The intriguing question is, how does Aerith already know that Tifa means so much to real Cloud? Considering how it's been shown Aerith already knows more than she's letting on, it's interesting to think about.

In the Japanese source dialogue, when Aerith says “We’ve got a bodyguard remember, mine!” she actually never says “mine!” and she doesn’t say it in other translations as well. What she says in Japanese is “Daijoubu, sugoi de no bodyguard, irukara” which translates to “It’s okay, since we have great bodyguard here.” Note, she says WE have, as in both her and Tifa, and that's all. In Italian it says "Andra tutto bene! Abbiamo una guardia del corpo speciale," meaning “Everything will be fine! We have a special bodyguard." In Korean, it says "괜찬아, 뛰어난 보드가드 있으니까," meaning "it's okay, since we have a great bodyguard here," exactly like in Japanese. In German, she says, "Keine Sorge! Wir haben doch 'nen furchtlosen Bodyguard! Nicht whar?" meaning "Do not Worry! We have a fearless Bodyguard! Isn't that so?" (Wir haben = We have) When Tifa then goes "hmm," the context and intention for it is her just contemplating if it's really okay. Aerith is trying to comfort Tifa and tell her that it'll be okay, as Tifa's been expressing fear of ghosts the entire time and continues to do so. After Cloud says "ghosts aren't my specialty," Tifa says "Don't say that and do something about this!" as she decides to trust and go with what Aerith said. Unfortunately, the English translation/localization has been quite problematic in giving misconstrued perceptions. There are errors like this everywhere. I'll give another example. In the part after Cloud and Tifa jump off the train, where Tifa says "you always know what to say," she's actually expressing some cringe to Cloud saying "you're pretty light" as if he's trying to be cool, it's just not expressed that well in the English translation and localization. In the Japanese source dialogue, she says "nani sore..." which translates to something more like "what the heck..." or "what is that..." in the intention, expressing cringe at his line. It fits in much better with how Nojima said he portrayed Cloud this time to be more cringe when he's trying to be cool: "This time, [Cloud] can miss the mark and be a little cringe-worthy at times. His cool facade can often slip." I've seen many streamers perceive Cloud as being a smooth talker with lines like this one being localized like this, but that's not really how he's meant to be perceived there.

For everyone who's always been claiming the Aerith route as canon - This. Been saying it since my first play through of the original. Aerith has (had) Zac and Cloud was a reminder of him constantly - that's the essence of her affection. It is her love's friend, who she is also friends with, even if physically attracted she would always be reminded of Zac. Tifa and Cloud's history together like the promise, the flowers, the parting and reuniting is all pointing to her being Cloud's sole canon love interest. It is their destiny. All other ships are fair game through player's will.. but Tifa x Cloud is canon. She's the main heroine of FF7 and the only one who can stand on equal footing with him physically or emotionally. No more, no less.

I think there's some ambiguity in the original, but the Remake makes Cloud and Aerith feel more platonic than the original. Like, Aerith would be Cloud's ideal wingwoman. Conversely, you can cut the awkward sexual tension between Cloud and Tifa with a Buster Sword.

Nice video. Im not even a shipper like tat but this ship just takes the cake and i lowkey been swooning for it. I never played the original but from what I've read it wasnt nearly as upfront with it as this. Also i've seen some pretty insane cloud and aerith shippers. They obviously dont like this less ambigious route their taking. The bond Tifa and Cloud is amazing just because of how much they lean on each other and are there. I feel bad for cloud in some scenes because you can see how bad Tifa's pain hurts him. That's why the hug scene was so great. cant wait to see how they take it in the next parts. Even in the original with its cube-like characters, text box dialogue, and limited facial expressions, I liked Tifa more than Aerith. Not as just as a love interest for Cloud but as a character. (Side note: The game is player's choice so pick whichever girl makes you happy, both choices are technically correct and says more about the player/viewer than Cloud because he's an avatar for the player's preferences.) Heck, even if she wasn't a love interest, I would still like her character more because she's relatable to me. Aerith is fun, playful, confident, energetic, and optimistic. She's the girl I wish I could be and the girl we all like and gravitate towards. But Tifa, despite looking like fanservice and being a badass fighter, is insecure and hesitant. At first, when I was young, I thought Tifa was immature and annoying because she struggled so hard to open up. Now as an adult and with mental health awareness, I am looking back at her portrayal in the original and seeing things differently. The REmake, with it's amazing visuals and voice acting has also added to her characterization which confirmed my initial perception of her was wrong. She struggles to open up to others, maybe has some social anxiety and attachment issues but this is what makes her feel more relatable and real. We all have our histories and it shapes us and sometimes shit is real and it's hard to get over it. Anxiety or other mental health conditions can be crippling and make us our own enemies and we feel we can't ever be that confident, cheerful girl which makes us feel like there is something wrong with us. Homegirl deserves her own backstory independent of Cloud.

B G he‘s got his own characteristics and personality but in the end he’s a game character who is subject to our choices but those choices are confined to the games plot and intentions. The story does have its predetermined plot (talking just about original here) and yes in that storyline Tifa is the end girl. The players and viewers get to pick which one they want to like on the journey, but it’s sort of a false option because the destination is the same. Cloud will be attracted to both girls, we the players/viewers get to choose our preference but in the end Tifa will be standing with our protagonist therefore the set up must also be there in aspects of the game the player can’t choose.

NaN X I think the choice option between Tifa and Aerith is a somewhat good mechanic because the devs básically please everyone with it, but then we see the mechanic leave after Aerith dies. in the first disc (well maybe just the midgar part of the first disc) of the OG it mainly focuses on Cloud and Aerith’s relationship, but then after Aerith dies we get a more in-depth look at Cloud and Tifa’s relationship and realize that their chemistry is way more deeper(we see it in the lifestream sequence where we find out that cloud/real cloud has been holding favor for her ever since he was a child, and the highwind scene where they spend the night) unfortunately tho some people think that Tifa was just the “second choice” (which she isn’t) due to the choice mechanic and the way the first part of the OG focuses on cloud and Aerith, they say that cloud has to “learn” to live with Tifa, they say he has to “deal with second choice”, they say “if Aerith hadn’t died, cloud would’ve never chosen Tifa”, which is imo, false since we know that Cloud has been holding Tifa near his heart for a long time. I just hope with the next parts of the remake, we finally get more clarification in the instead of keeping it “vague” like how they always have done it, even if it causes some crazy shippers to get furious.

The story was going to end the way it was going to end and took a bit more of a realistic approach to relationships. Like in real like If we break up or lose our partner, is getting remarried or dating someone new or who we used to like a “second choice”? I think that’s an unfair way of thinking about it.

I actually heard a really nice interpretation for Tifas theme yesterday which I think you might enjoy. It starts as a duet, two instruments (perhaps a flute and a oboe) playing in harmony. Then at 0:51 the oboe drops out, and only the high pitched feminine flute is left. then at 1:37 the baritone Oboe replaces the flute and plays the same melody (a "response" common in male female duets.) Then at 2:12 the flute comes back in, is "reunited" with the oboe, and completes the circle. This is a[[apparently a classic way to write a male/female duet, and also represents Tifa and Clouds story together. Their time together as children, then Tifa calling out for Cloud early on in the story, then Cloud calling out for Tifa in the later part, before coming together at the end.

The thing that many people don't seem to understand is that Aerith and Tifa are saviors but to different things. Tifa saves Cloud, when his mind is broken and unable to make sense of who he is she stays by his side instead of going out to save the world. Aerith on the other hand leaves Cloud to save the world; she is the savior to the planet. Aerith is great, but in many ways she's too great for Cloud, her destiny is beyond Cloud. On the other hand Tifa is Clouds savior she gives everything for him. Both these girls are heroins to the story. The lifestream sequence also inverts Cloud and Tifas relationship, he promises to save her, but she ends up saving him.

This is so true, I have been saying this for years, and the way the remake has started has actually begun to do a really good job of foreshadowing this. The plot of the story is very clear about this but some of the narrative points in the exposition can be misleading because of the LT elements that were built into the gameplay. At the end of the day though these two heroines both serve specific roles, Aerith as the external heroine to save the planet and Tifa as the internal heroine to save the protagonist. I think it is a brilliant weaving of a love story into the subtle subtexts of the overall plot and I think that's why CloudxTifa is such a powerful and endearing pairing to so many people.

Yeah, well I wanted to figure out who was the main love interests in FF7 for Cloud, so I read a bunch of old reddit posts from before the remake was even launched and it just seemed to me that the OG did leave it up to you but in the compilation the creators decided to choose Tifa as the main love interests for Cloud.

I was too young for FF7 when it first came out, I wasn't born till the late 90s so I first watched FF AC, didn't understand it, then I played crisis core because it had better graphics then I played the OG on am emulator in high school in 2014. And it just seemed to me that CloudXTifa and ZackXAerith were the main pairs.

I’ve played the original ff7 and I haven’t played the remake yet, but to me it seems that in the remake, Cloud & Tifa’s relationship seems more special than it was showed in the original. I’m guessing that might have been a conscious decision from the game producers.. in this day and age with a modern audience and fan base, I think it actually is a smarter move to lean towards Cloud x Tifa, as this would make the story and plot more favorable for the newer generation of fans. While older fans were more divided between the 2, I think younger fans who haven’t played the original, would want Cloud & Tifa to be together more.

At the start they are sitting far part in the bar. Near the end, Cloud is holding onto her arm so tightly on the rooftop when he is saved....foreshadowing that they are getting closer and closer in love after years apart.
