I hate to say this since they did the math wrong but the answer to John's math problem is 25, 26 if you include Cpt. planet. Mathematically you start with the classic handshake problem: square five to get all two ring combinations (25), then remove the ones which require two of the same ring (20), then divide by two since order does not matter so we don't need both heart-fire and fire-heart (10). so there are ten two color pairings. Next for each two ring pairing there is a corresponding three ring set made of the rings that were not included in the pairing so there are also exactly ten three ring Summons. finally, there are five four ring possibilities because each of those is defined by lacking a single ring. this brings us to a total of 25 non CPT Planet summons. alright, I admit, I actually know this because I play too much Magic the Gathering. In that game there are ten guilds, five shards, five wedges, and five Nephilim there is also one WUBRG for for a total of 26 unique color combinations.

Surely it would be both, no? The Carbon ends up as a major component of the bark\wood, but the oxygen still has to go somewhere. That said it does seem pretty common that they laugh at Jon, only to give an equally wrong explanation.

In answer to how many ways of combing 5 rings it’s 31 5 choose 2 = 15 5 choose 3 = 10 5 choose 4 = 5 5 choose 5 = 1 I think where you got 5x5 from is how many different ways is there to order 5 things which is 5! not 5^2

I think its telling that the Starfield segment was at least half an hour of them all griping, but John still raves about Mass Effect 3 despite defending parts of Starfield. I mean, Legion feels more alive than all the NPC's in Starfield put together and they're a sufficiently advanced flashlight (I'm joking, Legion is best girl. After Garrus of course). Jon the alchemist is excellent! Jon, can we turn lead into gold? Didn't the Greeks have some things to say about that as well? Didn't Plato? Aristotle, as per usual, was wrong but creative and judgmental. It's sorta the same reason we can't use super tiny grabby hands to make O2 out of other random elements, or harness the power of a star. It's my absolute favorite when Jon does science!! 😂 But you're 100% right, clowns pile out of mini cars not unicycles!

I hate when Matt laughs at John for not knowing a science thing and then refuses to explain it to him. Which if he's laughing that hard should be easy for him. Wind power comes from the heat of the sun, no the sun will not run out. No, solar panels do not reduce global warming because we eventually use all of the power they take in in our electrical power lines and appliances, and the energy is released from those as heat.
