the sanctions China did to Korea kinda backfired on them because not only did Korean companies move their factories to other countries like India and Vietnam, China lost a lot of business as these Korean companies changed their manufacturing locations. To add to that, China didnt know it was so reliant on South Korean technologies like semiconductors and memory chips that it set back China's technological sector by years

@@mingkao1 First of all, Taiwan has a population of 23 million. You can't take those who don't express their opinions as those who don't support reunification. Second, even if there is a vote, it is the vote of the entire 1.4 billion people in China, not the vote of a single region. Third, there is an unfinished civil war between the Taiwan region and the mainland. You can do whatever you want? Has it been approved by the mainland? Even if the United Nations troops came, we would dare to fight on the issue of Taiwan. If any force wants to split Taiwan, if we fight with them together, we will definitely take back the Taiwan area, and the national territory is allowed to be lost.

Kishore Mahbubani...what a mouth full, however, Mr. Mahbubani is spot on. Keeping peace in Taiwan Strait, the best option is to maintain the status quo. It worked for the past 70 years but the political climate has changed on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. In Taipei, Taiwan the new president Tasi Ing-Wen and her party (Progressive Party) are pushing for Taiwan's Independence. On the China side, Beijing is no longer the weak man of Asia of a generation ago. Today, China is an economic and military superpower. Beijing is ready for unification with Taiwan by peaceful means but force will be used if Taiwan pushes for an INDEPENDENCE. Now comes the United States. who sees China as the only global competitor capable to replace America as the sole dominating power in the 21st century. This path to collision is like the ancient Peloponnesian War between Athans (dominant power) and Sparta (ascending rising military power) in 400 BC. Something has to give and Athenians did not budge and lost the war. If U.S. and China go to war, it will be the end of the civilization with nuclear strikes by hypersonic missiles and sub-launched missiles. There is no winner and no place is safe. Concession must be made between great powers to co-exist or not exist at all.

Beijing's failed stance with Ukraine also dispelled its own statement on "sovereignty must be respected" Beijing lost so much credibility within EU in the recent 2 years that Standing with Ukraine (despite Moscow being an important ally) would have helped to amend some broken ties. Instead, Beijing's internal media is playing Moscow's narrative which makes one question their own 'sovereign claim'. There are uses for those military assets, a communist leader won't overspend on it for no reason. The moment China expresses their interest in taking back Taiwan, they know where it will end up. We, humans, have the most challenging situation with our HOME, THE PLANET EARTH. And what I'm seen is the war, preparation of war, threatening from country to country. Is like leaders are blind or are out of mind. Is a serious situation because the citizens, the real owners of the countries don't want or need a war. Something needs to be done. Stop everything and seat to talk, not in that endless meetings that never come with a solution, but just postponed and postponed. It must be something different fast and pragmatic. URGENT THINGS NEED TO BE DONE.

I'm not sure "strategic ambiguity" will be able to keep on withstanding all the mounting pressure of increasing ambitions and reciprocal irritations and provocative language and warped views of history, diplomatic agreements and statements. If you keep on putting heavy books on the shelves of your IKEA cupboard, one day the whole thing might collapse. It's a powder keg, and visibility in these dark moments is so low, it is difficult not to light a match in the hope to see better what the situation looks like. Matches and powderkegs however are like cat and dog.

That is mostly correct, I would say that China had real and actual positive control of all of Taiwan for a whole 40 years. Japan did land on the Northern coast of Taiwan without Qing knowing about it, and only found out because the British saw the Japanese land on Taiwan. How come? They did not have real control over the Southern part. And it was not positive, it was cruel leaders who restricted the Taiwanese population from mining iron(it could be used to make weapons against the Qing) that is a real policy implement onto Taiwan.

Which country has benifited the most from the Russia Ukraine conflict? Is it Russia? Ukraine? EU? China? If you're alluding to the U.S. then food prices are up, gas prices are up, inflation jumped even higher to 40 year highs, and the stock market has been wrecked since the war started. Are you seriously saying the U.S. wanted Russia to attack Ukraine at a time when it's got its own problems to deal with? If anything Putin waited to attack for just this scenario while everyone is distracted by domestic issues. It was only three years ago when the former U.S. president was talking about leaving NATO saying it took more from the U.S. than it gives so again, what benefit are you talking about? If you're talking military industrial complex then if anything, Germany's was the absolute biggest beneficiary of the Russian conflict with Rheinmetall having the largest gains. If you're justifying the attack due to NATO expansion, then congratulations Finland and Sweden will be joining now. Nobody said anything when Russia invaded Georgia and annexed Crimea so if anything, it's been Russia expanding in the last few years. You ask who benefits from Russia attacking its neighbors? If your answer is anything other than Russia, you are pushing propaganda.

@@jamestk656 If the US did leave Nato as Trump said and stop Nato expansion, Russia would definitely not invade Ukraine. Trying to absorb Taiwan by force will be China's biggest mistake in its history. I served on the Korean peninsula and Japan for two decades as a Marine. The US and its allies will come to Taiwan's defense. Let me remind the Chinese that an amphibious operation is different from a land invasion like Ukraine. The US and its allies have military assets in SK, Japan, Guam, Australia, the Philippines, and other Pacific territories. The Japanese naval fleet alone can sink the entire Chinese fleet if it so desired.

A grunt who serve a bit in the past is now somehow a military strategy expert? The only thing you are right about is that Taiwan is nothing like Ukraine, Ukraine is massive, where Taiwan is literally a super small island a little more than 100 km from the coast of China. Not to mention it is a small island that is hard to supply unlike Ukraine and China has missiles that can be launched from the coast that can reach Taiwan. Plus, the Japanese fleet, really? The data stands, China has the second-best Navy after the US, Japan has a self-defense force after it got neuter after WW2. Also, there is enough beef between China and Japan, and I doubt Japan wants to provoke China further, less they want another sun. And how dedicated do you think the US will be willing to send in their soldiers? We currently are blowing money on Israel and Ukraine and the cost of things are going so high already, neither of these wars are even popular with the general population, you think starting think we want another war?
