I agree that it may not be the picture it was back in the '80's but it's reckless to make blanket statements such as the ones in this interview. It is STILL a dangerous disease and it STILL is a cause of death today, as in this nice man's case. It pees me off when people say things like, "Oh, just treat this as a chronic illness, just take these "harmless" pills, etc. and you'll live to a hundred." Sorry that's crap when you are speaking of potentially lethal diagnoses such as this, or say a stage IV cancer. How about the terrible side effects of the drugs for this particular disease? I know HIV/AIDS patients who've spoken about this fact. It's no walk in the park, and I wish some wouldn't sugar coat it like this.

He had a meaningful life and made his contributions through his vocation (social work) and his HIV activism. He could've just committed suicide like many others did when he was told his diagnosis, especially at that tender age. Some of the comments here are just posted by the usual calloused and cruel brigade who post on every YT video about AIDS or gays. Life is not about quantity of years but content; we all live 70-90 years if lucky and leave the stage. His young life had content and he contributed what he could. Look around you: not everyone has a sense of purpose, and some people live and die without finding one. They just eat, sleep, exist aimlessly... and live to take pot-shots at people who had a sense of purpose and meaning in their lives despite incredibly difficult circumstances.

It doesn’t just occur this way. It’s just one of the ways. Let’s not forget blood transfusions, needle sharing, basically coming into contact through opened skin with any bodily fluid that hiv loves to dwell in such as infected blood, semen, even breast milk. Let’s just take care of not coming into contact with any of these fluids because you never know if you have a cut and well you’re right also being on guard at all times with our health.

I think, "no longer a death sentence" is a serious mischaracterization of the 80's vs now. I think this statement refers to the initial immediate death and immense suffering. Compared to now, a slow drawn out death with medication. Which older generations understand and younger ones do not. Please comment on this perspective.
@ryanblack29862 жыл бұрын
With just 1 pill a day, ppl are undetectable and do not ever develop symptoms. It no longer kills people if they take meds. Like him I was a teenager and it was my first bf. That was 20 years ago. I'm still undetectable with a great cd4 count.

@TheEfeham3256 жыл бұрын
Nomadic Life Well, I am certainly glad I do not live in your country. HIV can spread in many ways, including sex. Sexual orientation or promiscuity matters not, what matters is that people protect themselves and if they choose to have multiple partners, they should all get tested. Homosexuality existed alongside heterosexuality even in primitive times. It is natural and quite frankly it will help to save us from overpopulation (if they do not opt to have their own biological children). To live in a world or country where we are told who can love and/or fuck, this is not living. I do not believe in your God, or any God for that matter, I believe that whatever is responsible for our creation is something we could never fathom in this life. I refuse to believe a God exists that would damn others simply because of their orientation or premarital sex or something- it sounds more like lies that come from humans alone. We are sick, defective. Good day.

Quote from an Interview with Doctor Konstantin Buteyko, MD, Ph.D., Newspaper Soviet Siberia (1998): “There are rumors that you can treat AIDS.” “Normalization of breathing can defeat even AIDS.” “Why did you not announce that to the whole world? That would be an international sensation and could lead to recognition.” “We do not advertise that because AIDS is the punishment for human promiscuity. If people now find out that AIDS can be defeated, an epidemic of wrongdoing and perversion will be catastrophic.”
