I was going to say the weather just got better and better on this walk but then it changed but at least you did not get a drenching. A booked room for the night sounded a great call and it indeed look a stunner. Never been to Falling Floss before despite threatening too many times and to be fair, it looked well worth a visit. Well done on completing this, it looked real tough at times, cheers Alan

Thanks Alan. Yeah the it was a mixed bag of weather but that's UK for you. I am an experienced enough hiker to know that and I should've prepared better for it, like listening to my gut and taking my bloody gaiters! lol. I think I got a little complacent on this one. Falling Foss was very nice as was the surrounding woodland, great little section but be advised very busy on a nice day. The cafe there was choca block. Congratulations on completing it. I acknowledge that you have said earlier that you didn't enjoy the walk as you thought you might. From my perspective it was lovely to see places that I know as my Great Grandmother lived in Grosmont!
@BASHADweller4 жыл бұрын
I think it was more the experience I didn't enjoy, if you know what I mean. I had a lot of bad luck. I think that played a big part in my lack of enjoyment. Can't fault a lot, if not all, of the scenery. Grosmont is a lovely place, although I didn't record much of it I did enjoy my mini explore of the place, admittedly most of that was the pub! Lol. I think it was somewhere between, 27-30 degrees. Far too hot for me! That's along time without going to the east coast mate and I'll be taking an easier route next time too :) Well in fact I already have, went to the beach at Beadnell on the Northumberland Coast last week, drove to the car park and had to walk maybe 200 metres with a cheeky stop at the ice cream van about halfway! lol. How did that 5 miles stretch without your water filter go Shaun? I presume it was OK. I mean there was a shop at the end of it. Well, that was a good series. I think that stone was probably the culprit. To much weight. Ha ha! Mark

It was bloody thirsty! The shop in Glaisdale was shut, it was the shop an additional 3 miles after that which was open in Grosmont. The pub in Glaisdale was shut also but they had a water tap out back which was very much appreciated, I don't think I could've made it to Grosmont without it as I was very parched by then. Glad you enjoyed the series. I think you may be on to something, that pebble was deceitfully heavy! lol. Thanks for watching. Atb Shaun

@@BASHADweller I walk in a "holiday" company normally - no planning and as hotel to hotel, it makes life easier than some crossings. Already booked next year to walk the Dales Highway June 23 (Saltaire to Appleby) and thinking about doing a solo reverse C2C - I only live 6 miles or so from St Bees so I can walk back home. I've avoided Scotland - great as long as you time it to miss the midges. Done Hadrian's Wall (2021) - possibly Cumbria Way in 2023???
@BASHADweller2 жыл бұрын
@@richardhunter7363 I enjoyed Hadrians Wall but I knew I would as I love history. I also walked the Antonine Wall north of the border, that’s only about 40 miles ish. I have done a small portion of the Cumbrian Way earlier this year but I didn’t have time to do the lot. Whatever you chose, I hope you enjoy it. Must be nice living near St.Bees? Lovely neck of the woods.

@@BASHADweller one of my fav walks is to walk down into Whitehaven, over the cliff to St Bees, along by the railway line until it meets the C2C, along the C2C to Moor Row (the walker statue) and then back to W/haven. Or round Ennerdale which is only 6 miles from home. When we did the C2C, the company provided a guide but for the first 2 days, I knew the route better than they did!
@jonm49894 жыл бұрын
Well done, top effort. Out of interest did you enjoy the walk as much as you expected? At one point I recall you saying you preferred the Pennine Way.
@BASHADweller4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jon. This trail is the reason I started doing long distance walks. I watched a documentary on the TV many years ago and thought to myself I'm going to do that. So I thought I would love it, but parts of it I would go as far as to say I hated. Don't get me wrong, some lovely stretches and views to die for but I just didn't enjoy myself even half as much as I did on the Pennine Way. I think things may have been different if I had better luck. There was quite a few things that went wrong for me on this walk like my phone (and me) getting water damaged, my water filter breaking, planned refill stops being either shut due to Covid-19 or renovations, all of these just seemed to come one after another throughout the trip. Some of which was my own fault and some which wasn't. So maybe I am being a bit unfair, I may tackle it again in the future and will hopefully have a much more pleasant experience. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Atb Shaun

@@jonm4989 Well don't let my moaning put you off. With hindsight a little more planning on my part would've probably made for a better experience. I did enjoy parts. I usually do my trails in either early April or late September so I'm not used to the trail in sunny weather and made mistakes because of that. Fella for me I wear a shirt so can regulate the heat and airflow. I have all kinds of tops, but that method works for me. Check this out. I was wild camping weekend gone at Whitby and you know St Marys church at the top of the 199 steps?. I pitched behind the graveyard wall on the cliff and fuck me, the wind was howling all night. I couldn't sleep because of the noise. My tent was non-stop rattling, and it peed it down for a while. I had a bottle of gin so drank half of that and with the lack of sleep and that in the morning I was rough and knackered. Sunday I looked for some woods and found a place and drank the rest of the gin and slept really well. I had a nytol sleeping tablet. I might have to do this walk that your doing next time down to robin hoods bay. By the way friday I started off at scare borough and camped across from the seas on the north side, and then Saturday caught the bus to Whitby. Crazy fucking weekend. It was blooming hot, and the weather was lovely. I like Whitby. I had to get fish and chips on saturday and Sunday ha ha. I know how you feel been knackered. I wear these trainers instead of boots as they are kinder on my feet and I can walk faster. Man enjoy. We are very lucky to get out.

I am completely aware that the Cleveland Way failure was down to me, I admitted as much in that video.It doesn't mean I don't have the right to not like it. Yeah not a fan at all, I do have much better one the LifeSaver Liberty, but I opted for the MSR Trailshot due to it's compactness. Wish I hadn't, more or less fell apart in my hands! lol.
