- This was filmed before the UK lockdown was initiated. It is my feeling that we all need to obey the governments instructions and remain locked down to control this horrible virus. No one loves their fishing more than I, but the safety of others is far too important. You will not die if you do not go fishing. But someone else might if you do. My son for example. Or someone’s mother or father. Stay home, stay safe. 😊👍🏻

I recently stumbled across this channel, and it actually helped solidify my decision to stop being a vegan. I haven't been feeling well for a while and seeing how incredibly respectful you are of the ocean and the creatures that you take to eat has shown me that eating animals can be far from inhumane. The way you talk about the fish and take only what you need is truly inspirational. A really special channel, thank you for sharing it with us xx

Watching you forage reminds me of me and my Grandmother, she used to let me stay home from school and she'd put on a pair of gollashes and we'd walk along the river at low tide, she showed me how to lift the rocks and find crawfish and eels, and snails and fresh water mussels in the mud. She also taught me how to skip stones across the water, I learned more from her than I ever could in school. Thank you for bringing back those fond memories.

It makes me very happy to see that you do not try to destroy the habitats while foraging. I can tell you have great respect for nature and try to preserve it for generations to come.

@@TheFishLocker The world needs to hear the voices of competent men. Not saying we don't need to hear what women have to say, or anything like that. But how do I put this into words. You are competent in something that you love to do. You are a fantastic fisherman and hunter. That takes, intelligence, dedication, and discipline to learn how to do the things that you know how to do. And on top of that you are able to share what you know, and share it very well, with a fantastic voice. You are patient with your son, when you take him with you, not all the time obviously which is fine you know but, you have a patient way with him, not all Dads choose to do that. The world needs hear from fathers like you. The world needs to hear the voice of someone who competent, who is able. And I think that you have a good way of seeing and saying things, and teaching, and I believe that that probably applies to more things than fishing. So I think if you decided to talk about things that are important for living, there's probably lots of folks that would listen to you. It's not an easy world we live in, people love what they see in your videos, creatures they probably never even knew existed, it is a unique talent to be able to show people things they have never seen, and teach them about how to do things they didn't know about, which they suddenly find themselves wanting desperately to try and do themselves. You are inspiring, which is not something everyone can manage. You have a good voice, and I think people like listening to you talk. Some times I think people need to hear a steady voice. Thank you for sharing what see, and I believe people want to hear anything you might feel the desire to talk about. God bless you and your family.

I saw somebody already asked what that was at 23:00, I thought it was a dead inverted octopus but on closer inspection it was a starfish as the comment below said. I was surprised you didn't say anything but as you so often point out, the tide pools are full of life. If you were to point out every organism you would't get 2 yards into it! As always love the videos, you are a true "Salt of the Earth/Sea?" guy and I love the videos. Congrats on 100k subscribers!
@TheFishLocker4 жыл бұрын
- Haha. Yeah it was a nice sized starfish, I actually did say something about it but the wind noise was so bad in that clip I had to edit it out. And as as you say Paul. If I stopped to describe every organism I wouldn't 2 yards down the rocks. I am glad that you're enjoying the videos and take care. :)

What a beast!! When I did my degree, my dissertation was studying the movement patterns and shelter selectivity of lobsters (it was part of an effort to work out how best to build habitats that would encourage colonisation, such as in artificial reefs, so you could effectively 'ranch' lobsters since you can't really farm them). We got our lobsters from Poole Bay and they were usually named for the features from where they'd been caught such as Valentine 1, 2, and 3 as they'd been caught from an old WW2 Valentine Tank. But there was one moody gurt bugger who we called Evil B***ard because it had a right attitude on it. Bit through my waders in the huge seawater tank we used for the experiments and was always fighty. After we'd done with it, it was in a smaller tank at the aquarium in the national oceanographic centre, waiting to moult so we could get the movement sensors back (they were araldited onto the carapace), but it spent most of it s time hiding in the rocks in the tank. Someone else thought the tank was empty and put a smaller lobster in. Evil B***ard was suspiciously bigger after that and the other lobster was a collection of small parts floating around the tank. Proper big bruiser. Once we had the tags back they were usually released back into Poole Bay.

Steve Pettifer - Aw mate I would love to be part of something like that. So so fascinating. I always thought their breeding cycles was interesting also. I’d be really interested to know the average moulting frequency of something that size. Mainly to know how long it would take for a V notch to grow out of one of those big hens. 😊👍🏻🦞
@stevepettifer48964 жыл бұрын
@@TheFishLocker this was over 20 years ago so it's a bit hazy now!! I think they moulted about once or twice a year but I may be imagining that. They were amazing creatures though. I was going to apply to do a PhD at woods hole in Massachusetts studying them (including submarine trips!) But I didn't get the grades and ended up being a software developer. Because that's the obvious career choice for a marine biologist!! 🤣🤣
@TheFishLocker4 жыл бұрын
Steve Pettifer - I know the smaller ones moult yearly. But when they reach larger sizes they sometimes don’t moult even every 2 years. So some BIG ones haven’t moulded in many years.

If you salt the ice water it will be colder than unsalted ice water, plus it will help retain the lobster fresh sea flavor and not taste fresh watery. Use the same amount of salt you used in the boiling pot.
