That always makes my blood boil and Ron does so well at maintaining his composure when these morons refuse to move. I accept that there are occasions where they have nowhere to go because *other* drivers aren't paying attention and leaving them space to get out the way. I often wonder, if you stole everybody's rear-view mirrors, how many would even notice? Any muppet can pass a driving test; there should be second test for "roadcraft", maybe three months later, when you can remove "still learning" plates if you pass, resit your first test if you don't. There are way too many people on the road, who have *no* driving skills, yet they still passed the test.

Infuriatingly easy, no matter how complicated it really is, it always comes across as "OK. we'll just do Plan 3c Since Plan 3a, which we usually use, would cause a problem we are not prepared to counter and Plan 3b requires something we don't have on site." I have yet to find him in a situation he says "I'm stumped on this one." I have seen other companies get stumped or the wreck beats them, at least initially.

There have been multiple comments about the use of my air horn rather than using a siren while running to this scene and that I should have allowed Mike to run in front of me since his truck has a siren. Please allow me to explain...... We simply have not taken the time to install a siren on the new Peterbilt rollback yet. As I stated in the video, we are not required to have a siren as long as we have the air horn and red/blue lights. We are following the letter of the law. The following is taken directly from the state statute: "5. (1) The driver of any vehicle referred to in subsection 4 of this section shall not sound the siren thereon or have the front red lights or blue lights on except when such vehicle is responding to an emergency call or when in pursuit of an actual or suspected law violator, or when responding to, but not upon returning from, a fire. (2) The driver of an emergency vehicle may: (a) Park or stand irrespective of the provisions of sections 304.014 to 304.025; (b) Proceed past a red or stop signal or stop sign, but only after slowing down as may be necessary for safe operation; (c) Exceed the prima facie speed limit so long as the driver does not endanger life or property; (d) Disregard regulations governing direction of movement or turning in specified directions. (3) The exemptions granted to an emergency vehicle pursuant to subdivision (2) of this subsection shall apply only when the driver of any such vehicle while in motion sounds audible signal by bell, siren, or exhaust whistle as may be reasonably necessary, and when the vehicle is equipped with at least one lighted lamp displaying a red light or blue light visible under normal atmospheric conditions from a distance of five hundred feet to the front of such vehicle." Please note the last section which states that we can use an "exhaust whistle". The air horn is defined under the "exhaust whistle" category, much like the warning systems used by trains since, well, the invention of train warning systems, which is an "exhaust whistle" train air horn. So, again, we are following the law. We will be installing a siren, but as I said, the air horn still covers us. The main reason I went first is because Mike was on another job when the call came in. I left directly from our shop, which was closer to the incident. It just so happened that Mike was able to catch up with me in the traffic back up. This comment is made simply to educate. This comment is not made in a defensive or derogatory manner. Thanks for watching and God bless.
@MrYfrank144 жыл бұрын
I can't believe the patience you have with these people making comments. I would just say " because the law says I can use an air horn instead of a siren" in the description, then yell at the computer that they need to read the description every time someone questioned the air horn. you are a far better man than I.
@MrYfrank144 жыл бұрын
I think an exhaust whistle would be great. gets louder as you accelerate. exhaust whistle with a jake brake on should clear the road.

Well, there's your problem: you need a train horn. A K5LLA and that cowcatcher they used on Mythbusters would be a great way to clear traffic.

You don't have to thank me for watching. I enjoy watching what you do. It is sad to see wrecked vehicles and even sadder when people are injured or killed. I do believe in guardian angels. In June 1978, I left the road on a motorcycle on a curve at around 90 mph while very drunk. The instant I knew I was going off the road, a strange feeling wrapped around me and I heard 'Do Not Fear'. Although I suffered many injuries, I survived. I still have problems left over from my injuries. As they say, you have to pay the price and I have nobody to blame except myself.

I monitor the MSP crash reports regularly. I noticed that many rollover fatal crashes involve unrestrained motorist. I realize that many occur in rural areas and some don't realize the importance of seat belts. Many will have one restrained with minor injuries and the unrestrained ejected. Its totally an unfortunate way to lose a life. This bothers me. Keep up the great work Ron and God bless.

Ron: Appreciate the superb videos you have been posting! I am amazed at your breadth of knowledge and experience! And...it is evident that you are also a very good teacher. One request, though: When you are examining a problem (and guessing just where and how you will proceed with a job), could you explain the mechanical problems and physics of your ideas (i.e., the "why" and "wherefor" and "indended" results)? I think that would give us poor bystanders a better insight into your thinking! A humble suggestion: consider one of those "dry erase" white boards, to diagram what you were thinking, and the rationale. This could be a valuable visual aid you could do "after the fact" when you are putting the video together "in post". As always, keep up the good work, and ... to quote you ... "God bless" !
@RonPratt4 жыл бұрын
Very good suggestion. I may do that. Gives me another idea....perhaps I could do a video critiquing one of my previous jobs and showing on the dry erase board how I might have been able to approach the job differently.
