John Wick is a great franchise, and action aside, I love how the theme in each movie builds and sets up the next one. Revenge leads to choices, which leads to consequences, which affects those around you (at least that’s how I see it).

@@ShiningWonder I’m pretty much agreed with Cody on the series. 1 is still a classic obviously but I feel that it’s rather plain compared to the sequels. I much prefer the expanded lore and world building of the sequels as well as the action sequences and set pieces being much larger in scale. 2 I felt did everything the first did but better. One of those cases where I do feel bigger is better. Perfect balance of story and action. 3 was rather convoluted story wise but had the best action up to that point. Unfortunately it was very easy putting this at the bottom. 4 to me is everything firing on all cylinders and being great in every aspect. It had the great story of 1 and 2 and the great action of 3. It’s basically tied with 2 for me but I’ll give the slight edge to 4 for now. 4>2>1>3.

@@HEYitzED Yeah I understand your take. The sequel does expand the world and it did have more action, so I get why that would be the best overall. For me I guess I didn't need the extra world building, I was already invested in John Wick himself and I think the 1st has a story that everyone can get behind. I do agree that the action is the weakest, but the bad guys killed in that one was more gratifying because they personally wronged him from the start. I also do agree that 3 has the weakest story but the creativity in the action propelled it enough ahead of 2 for me, it didn't rely on gunplay as much and felt grittier at times. Again all great movies though, I do understand where you are coming from with 2 being the best.

The thing I find interesting is that you liked that there was more hand to hand combat in 3 where I actually thought it had too much haha. I’m more of a gun on gun person so probably another reason I really like 2.

I have them as 1,4,3,2 I love how it started and the initial movie really set up everything that was going to happen in the later movies, two I found a great story but personally I found 3 to have an even better story, imagine wishing to get out and instead you turn yourself into the most wanted man on the planet and you can’t step anywhere without something tryna kill you, all while completing missions for the table itself. 3, 1, 2, 4. (Worst to best) Right now 4 is my favorite but it could be because of the honeymoon phase. About to see it a second time so it might change. However, since 2 came out it has been my favorite story and action wise. 2 has the best story imo, whereas 4 has the best action and a great ending. 3 confused me more than anything, however amazing action. And the first john wick is just absolutely amazing, i liked the "normal" world setting and how each movie wick gets deeper and deeper into his old life

After seeing Chapter 4 yesterday: 4.Chapter 3-some of the best action in the franchise, but easily the weakest plot. 3.John Wick-after that home invasion scene, I was hooked. 2.Chapter 4-a nearly perfect finale that has easily the best action of the franchise and that near 3 hour runtime flies by. My only issue is some scenes feel they go on longer than they needed to. 1.Chapter 2-opens the world up and has the best put together, fully rounded plot. Love this movie and one of my favorite action films of all time.

John wick chapter 2 Btw Cody Keanu Reeves got blacklisted for not agreeing to do speed 2 and during the matrix trilogy he had his girlfriend and baby die so he went through a rough time around the matrix and Constantine came out. So he took a break for awhile.

I have the exact same rating Cody! And I don't know why, but everyone I ask to rank JW movies, everybody says that they like Parabellum the most and Chapter 2 the least, but for me it's the other way around, because for me Chapter 2 greatly expanded the world of assassins (rules, other hotels, High table etc.), it has great story and action that isn't as over the top as it was in Parabellum (but the scenes with Halle Berry's dogs are awesome). ✏️

1) John Wick-Great self contained story, with glimpses into a wider mythology beyond regular mob stuff. 2) JW Ch.2-By and large expands the world's lore in very cool ways with more great action. It does show the beginnings of some of the more outrageous aspects of the lore. What IS the value of the gold coins? Bulletproof suits? fighting in crowded places without the crowds or authorities noticing? 3) JW Ch.4-Brings the story to a satisfying conclusion. Doesn't really tread new ground and it remixes aspects of Ch. 3. It is still very good and all the cool John wick staples are here, but I can't really put it above the first two. Also Winston maneuvered his way into getting the New York Continental rebuilt but what about the Osaka one? The Morocco one? I mean Morocco's Continental has to have been demolished and Halley Berry's character has to be dead right? Since she straight up and openly helped a then excommunicated John and helped him assault the Coin Maker. 4) Parabellum-Completely incidental and inconsequential to the overall plot of the series, Siege of the New York Continental is awesome though. Starts to expand the lore in ways I didn't care for much. The desert stuff with the High Table/seat in a random tent in a random dune. The Riska Roma making John Wick into a Black Widow. In the first movie he was just a hitman for a mid level mob family, with a military background and part 2 showed us a level of organized crime above what we think of as the top. Ch. 3 goes too big and too weird.

My rankings and short reasoning 1. John wick 1 - I choose this as #1 due to not only starting off the series but because the fun of people in the film making John sound so scary and badass and then John showing why he is scary. 2. Parabellum - This is the best film as far as the action IMO, It is a full throttle killfest. I'll just list of the stuff I loved, You have the brutal library scene, the knife throwing, the horses being used as weapons, the motorcycle chase, Sofia's dogs kicking more ass than the dog in chapter 4, the awesome ninja fight with the John wick fanboys, Epic fight with Zero and the beautiful showdown with the high table special forces at the Continental where John and Charon stick it right up the high tables cheeks. 3. Chapter 2 - The overall action was great as always and the story was pretty good imo. I liked seeing John get upset with being pulled deeper into the life he left and then getting pissed at Santino going full on into war with the High table. 4. Chapter 4 - Once again the action is great but I feel like the charm of watching another Continental hotel defend John and seeing the bulletproof suits wore off kinda quick since we already seen it done better in chapter 3, The other downside is the lack of anything really coming from Bowery king. The obvious highlights were the addition of Kain and seeing the awesome Dragonsbreath/Hotline Miami sequence. I enjoyed the film completely and honestly it was very hard to rank this series but it just wasn't my favorite as far as the Wickverse goes because some things we've seen done already in these films. I do like this as an ending for John's story because I'd hate for them to keep milking John's war on the High table. I do however look forward to more content set in universe of John Wick.

Ch 1 v 4 is a hard comparison for the best. 1 just blew you away because you were expecting absolutely none of that going in. 4 had Donnie Yen, Scott Adkins in a fat suit, the man the myth the legend, my freaking man Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) is in this! Bill Scarsgurad is an amazing villain. What's to not love?

I know it's a weird opinion, but watching John Wick Chapter 4 made me feel like a 9 year old kid seeing Matrix Reloaded again. I know John Wick and the Matrix aren't the same movie, it is just good to see Keanu have another career thanks to these movies.

My ranking (I've already done this ranking before, but I deleted it because I didn't like how it turned out... so I'm taking another crack at it again): 1.) Chapter 1 - This is the only John Wick movie that I can think of that follows the example of the K.I.S.S. method (Keep It Simple, Stupid). It's not the action spectacle of the later sequels (especially 3 and 4), and it doesn't have the world-building of Chapter 2. But sometimes simplicity is better than being straight-up exhausted for 2+ hours or especially 3 hours. That's gonna vary from person to person, but the first one is for those who only care about story and simplicity (and also the mystery aspect regarding "The Continental", because it's the first one in the franchise). And if memory serves me correct, Chapter 1 is also the shortest of the franchise, which makes it easier to digest for most people. (Unless you're a dog lover... and if that's you, then don't watch this movie... because it will mess you up big-time.) 2.) Chapter 4 - I mean... woof! (And that's not a dog pun, by the way.) You wanna talk about upping the ante... Chapter 4 does it so much to the point to where we may have reached the ceiling of what this franchise has to offer. We've already kind-of peaked. What else can you do to even top it? This movie is absolutely incredible. It can be exhausting after a while, especially knowing that the movie is almost 3 hours long. Let's face it: We're never going to go back to the pure simplicity of Chapter 1, because we're about as far away from the first movie as you can get at this point. It also brings up a debate within the John Wick fandom: Do you want simplicity and mystery, do you want action, do you want world-building and story, or do you just want all of it? Take your pick... I don't care. But I guess Chapter 4 is proof that the people involved in these movies absolutely know what they're doing. R.I.P. Lance Reddick. 3.) Chapter 2 - Even though Chapter 4 just barely made to #2 on this list (both movies are honestly tied in my head), Chapter 2 is pretty much John Wick: World-Building Edition. Honestly, I highly doubt that this franchise would mean anything if Chapter 2 didn't expand upon the world and lore that the first one almost set-up. Simplicity-wise, Chapter 1 still dominates, but Chapter 2 is where everyone started to fall in love with the John Wick movies in general. It wasn't just a one-off hit... they clearly had more story to tell. And since Chapter 2's release, this franchise has been an absolute roller-coaster. Chapter 2 is a great John Wick movie, no question. But the only reason why it's at #3 is because Chapter 1 exceeds when it comes to simplicity, and Chapter 4 exceeds when it comes to, well... almost everything else. Plus, it's still miles better than Chapter 3. 4.) Parabellum (Chapter 3) - Look... if all you want is pure action-movie fluff, Parabellum delivers... assuming you're the type of person that likes to turn your brain off after a long-and-stressful work-week (whether it's on a Friday or Saturday night). And for those people, it's probably not that big of a deal. But you're not gonna get any argument out of me that this the least awesome John Wick movie in the franchise. Because when it comes to story and world-building, there's not that much here compared to Chapter 2. Of course, Chapter 1 is still the winner when it just comes to pure simplicity. When you combine that with Chapter 4 doing a lot of things better than Parabellum and ending on a very satisfying note, Chapter 3 suddenly becomes more pointless by comparison. But it's still a really fun time... again, as long as you make sure that you don't keep your brain turned on constantly when you watch it. Otherwise, everything just falls apart. I don't know if and when we'll get a Chapter 5 (we probably won't, and that's fine). But if it does happen, here's hoping they continue to knock it out of the park. We'll see...

I put it #1 because it has a nice personal revenge story and didn't over complicate things with the world. The cast of characters were all great (funny) and Keanu probably has his best acting in the series with that movie like when he's screaming from being tied up in the chair. I do agree that it doesn't have the best action, but it's still a fun time and the short length makes it rewatchable. The other 3 movies have plenty of scenes that I don't care about, the 1st movie made every scene count.

Loved this movie so much and really loved that it brought so much emotion too it like the first movie which is what I wanted especially the talking parts than the action definitely second favorite in the franchise along with the first movie being my favorite so basically best to worst 1,4,2,3

OMG yes. No disrespect to Michael Nyqvist (RIP) who was only 4 years older than Keanu, but the boss fight was not believable. I was also much more invested in Wick killing Iosef to begin with. Viggo was way more sympathetic as a conflicted father and dude who recognized the shittiness of his own son, and they kinda had to have him waltz towards death to make that end fight happen. (On the other hand Viggo almost came across as depressed and nihilistic, which was pretty cool.) I still rank 1 before 2 and 3 because it gets a TON of credit for introducing and making me care about Wick.

4. Chapter 3 3. Chapter 2 2. Chapter 1 1. Chapter 4 2&3 really lost what I liked about the first, except obviously picked up the quality of the action. I felt four had both. Four is fifth favorite movie of all time.

1. John Wick Chapter Four (I have to. The world building was at its best and so were the side characters that nearly steal entire show. Plus it wraps things up in a fairly satisfying way. 2. John Wick Chapter Two: I almost agree with newness bias, but I had to give the edge to the fourth one. But as a sequel the second one is still so great. It’s slow in the beginning and feels like a repeat of part one for so long. But it picks up and does more great World building. 3. John Wick: This simple little revenge movie (over a dog no less) didn’t have to go as hard as it did. But I’m so glad it did. It’s not just the fact he’s avenging the dog, which is something absurd but real, it’s what the dog represents: John’s dead wife’s final gift of hope and peace. 4. John Wick Chapter Three Parabellum: a fun enough sequel With great action, but it’s the weakest story. It’s really part two of Chapter 2. A memorable side character and the dog sequence is great, but that’s about all I can say. :)

John Wick 3 was pinnacle straight action in the series, John Wick was pinnacle on how to make a generic storyline into something special, John Wick 2 was pinnacle on how to build upon something could have just been a one off movie, John Wick 4 had the best balance of action and story in the franchise.

I just finished watching the 4th man the action was cool the big bad really good loved Scott Adkins as killa…had no idea what Mr nobody motivates were or who’s side he was on 😅 John lack of dialogue made him feel soulless and didnt give me the emotional weight when he’s dies idk part 1-2 is still the best IMO and yeah the extras that just go about there day while people are literally being hacked to death like what!? Also the scene when John get kicked down the stairs I LOLd so hard how much he rolled 😂😂😂

I think the writer/ director missed a trick not playing into the Bogeyman angle…yes Wick is a man but the first film made him feel something else, almost like the personification of death. If that was a little more evident in this last film I wouldn’t have taken out of movie with him falling down 200 steps, jumping out windows and being run over, with no broken bones. Overall an enjoyable 3 hours but I love the first one the best.

Funny how are lists are completely flipped, but I respect it. 4) JW2 (8/10) it is my least favourite story, villain is so-so, and the action is just escalated in quantity, rather than quality for me 3) JW 4 (8.5/10) Really fun side Characters, but the weakest Villain of the franchise imo, The Dragons Breath overhead shot scene is the best action scene in the franchise in terms of how cool it looks, loved the stuff in Osaka, and the Berlin dance Club fight, but overall I felt it was a bit bloated and retread some of the stuff we already did in Ch. 3 and i liked that one better. 2) John Wick (9/10) My favourite story, and Vigo is my favourite main villain, it's simple and efficient, and it gives Keanu the best emotional performance and the only real good monologue he gets when he is captured, Willem Defoe is always a plus as well! Couldn't believe how good it was when I first saw it and it maintians that level of awesome every time I rewatch. 1) JW 3 (9.5/10) Best and most varied action sequences in the entire series in my opinion. I love how this movie is just relentless from the get go. Halle Berry and her two attack dogs are the peak of action awesomeness, and Zero is my favourite villain aside from Vigo, he's hilarious as well but also poses a physical threat with his fighting prowess, Horses, guns, dogs, Knives, Hatchets, Motorcycles, Katanas, and dudes from the Raid franchise, what more could you possibly want?

For me it’s #4 as my tops. Its was such a beautiful looking film. Number #3 would be a close 2nd. I loved the world building and action scene. I know you are not a fan of this one because of the crazy ending fall but, I think by the 3rd film of the John Wick series, there is a certain level of impossibility the viewer needs to ignore regarding things like physics, gravity, muzzle velocity, blunt force trama, bullets impacting human skin. Etc. Next would be #1. The wife, the dog and the Mustang? And lastly #2, which still could have easily be place at the 3rd spot were it not for the impact one had on the franchise.
