A couple springs or something to cushion that last foot of travel. Maybe even like a bar with a couple air cylinders to lift that first little bit and then the torsion bar would be enough to do it with one person. I love it and love when Brent visits and can't wait for more. Also mucho gracious to Elio for the excellent knowledge and help!!

you could try an off-road hydraulic bump stop to prevent the cab slam when closing it if you can't get the torsion bar tight enough. It would absorb the shock load as you lower the cab.

Next time you have oil contaminated with water, but it hasn't been used (not run or driven), just drain the water. It sinks to the bottom. The drain plug would be hard to put back, but it can be done. What I do is suck the water out, with a brake vacuum thing. (~1 liter, handheld, but that doesn't matter) Just remove the bleeder cap, use just the hose with the barbed bit (for stability) & shove it down the dipstick tube. The hose is clear, so it's easy to see when all the water is removed & it's now sucking oil.

I have a GMC truck like this in my back yard. Used it as a grain truck on the family farm when I was a young boy. The cab can easily be tilted by one person. My family had 3 or 4 of these COE trucks over the years. It was easy to tilt the cab on all of them. I think you probably need to load that torsion bar some more.

@n1352-m1i Жыл бұрын
Nice to see progress on this unique and beautiful truck ! I'm a bit surprised by the cabin latch attachement though: quite sturdy tube on one side, taking the load straight , and on the other side now a comparatively flimsy tube already bent taking the load with a leverage... I guess you don't plan to crash with this, but even driving on potholes may take a toll on the cab holding structure (depending on who's on the passenger side I guess).

Pretty dang nice work. Yes, you do need to be able to lift that cab by yourself. I have a cabover truck, not a semi rig, but the cab is heavy. The manufacturer set it up right, I'm always alone when I need to lift the cab and It works with some effort, but one guy can do it without too much trouble. I did discover that opening the doors was enough of a weight shift to make it even easier. You'll find that out as well.

@bruceaskin9645 Жыл бұрын
With regard to the buckle, It might help to have some extra places for the cab to rest upon, when its right down, instead of just the one point. You also have to consider the weight of driver and passenger. I would be thinking rests on the extreme outside points.

It looks like the safety on the cab release handle won't line up because the handle is bent (twisted) near the pivot. I'm sure you'd see it at some point but it stood out to me so I figured I'd say something. Also, don't forget to open both doors when tilting, it shifts the CG forward.
@darrenbrisson4336 Жыл бұрын
Your Lincoln builds coming along from where the trunk lid is to where the roof is seems like a vast expanse of real-estate you should consider using a roof and back glass off a 90'S cavalier or something like that with a nice rake like cadzilla from Boyd Coddington or if you could find a car which has a convertable hardtop and make it work for the Lincoln that'd bd really cool chrysler made a 2014 200 hard top converable I'd be the cheapest way to go keep up with Kenny u pull to find one to use the parts off of

If you put a wrench or something on that shelf behind the seat and tilt the cab it may fall into the windshield.

Wouldn't adding some landing pads on the rear cab corners help distribute the load of the cab, instead of placing all the weight on the center?

I'd think about redoing the steering arm bracket so that the Heim joint is in double shear - i.e. the bracket is a 'U' with the joint sandwiched in between. When you design a steering arm you really have to worry about fatigue failures caused by the bending moment on the joint. With a standard automotive ball joint the bending moment is taken by the taper and the fastener operates pretty much in pure tension; of course this means you have to make a tight fitting taper which is not so easy for your average fabricator. With the Heim joint there is some bending moment but having it in double shear reduces the cycles to a negligible amount. This is a place where brute force and ignorance doesn't apply - especially when you have a full load going down the highway i.e. Murphy's law. If you under design the bracket then it will most likely bend before it breaks giving you ample warning with a change in steering geometry. With a bolt in single shear the bolt will simply break and you lose all steering. I'd recommend getting a copy of Carroll Smith's Engineer to Win - probably the best book on the subject and he talks a lot about steering geometry. Really love your channel: you are a talented teacher and a mensch.

COE trucks have all this worked out.. Adding coil overs to the back of the cab gives a massive ride quality boost. You could even go as fare as air seats, also in trucks and plenty available as is the cab lift gear from the wrecker yard.. Air seats do take up space so this may not be an option in the ramp truck.. Highly recommend coil overs on the back of the cab tho..
