A few years ago when we vacationed out there, we looked at some of the same places you did as well as Tofino and the Sunshine Coast. Island living is a unique lifestyle which can feel restrictive (like cabin fever) and is of course dependent on ferries and their schedules. The spectacular beaches on the west coast almost make up for the 10 feet of rain they get every year! 😂 There were so many factors to consider as you well know! Health care, finding a family physician, dentist, etc were other issues we thought of. The bonus is that you’ll find lots of organic, plant-based foods there; even picking blackberries on the side of the road for dessert was a surprising delight! I wish you good luck in finding a new home base, Adelina.

When you are looking in a desirable areas the rents etc will definitely be high and they can pick and choose who they want…..they hold the cards….if you move to a less desirable area…more inland …more up north ….away from the water….you might get better rates….B C is definitely an expensive province…no bargains there…

It was very helpful to hear your longer-term perspective. Hoping for a certain outcome and researching the possibilities are very different than feeling a sense of urgency and almost desperation. Sometimes the situation merits these, but often we impose the sense of absolute and immediate necessity when it is really a matter of what we want. I can easily confuse the two and this can lead to major anxiety and making less-than-optimal choices. I also am looking into moving to a better location, but my current living situation is very pleasant and has much going for it, at least for the near future. Thanks for your wisdom and honesty.

I also know someone who recently moved to Qualicum Beach area from Quebec, where I am from. (They built a house) I will try to share your video with them. I find it interesting how people look at decision making. I am 68 and retired in my own small home. I would love to leave Quebec, especially to be in nicer weather year round. But my tolerance for risk is low. I cannot make those kind of decisions that won’t let me sleep at night! 😔 Where I am is not perfect but it is secure, comfortable and most of all affordable! I know that there is a tiny house builder out in Nelson, BC. He was making quite a few tiny’s at one time; might be worth investigating where they were parked. You have definitely been lucky to be forewarned by the floods in BC; global warming will effect a lot of places in Canada. Choose wisely❣️

Hi Adalina, a couple of things I've learned about BC and climate change with the fires/floods is that areas that have had so many fires are now ripe for flooding and mudslides because the trees are no longer there to hold the soil in place. I'm not sure how much of that has happened on the island yet but I know there have been forest fires there as well as on the mainland. I wonder if you have considered the Sunshine Coast area. I haven't heard anything about forest fires there and also the ferry service is less expensive than the island. I don't know about prices otherwise, but I hope this will help :) It's also a beautiful area although I've only seen it once.

Would have loved to have you as a neighbour Adelina! The hunt continues... Qualicum is beautiful. I may reach out to my sister to keep an eye, she is a real estate agent in Nanoose Bay, very near Qualicum and often sells the mobile homes in that area. She can keep an eye. Also I forgot to mention Sea Breeze Mobile Home Park and Petroglyph Mobile Home Park, both in Nanaimo, quite close to each other. Not sure what their structure is for rentals, but we did look at both when thinking of buying a mobile home. They are quite nice.

Brownsville RV & pub under the Pattulla bridge in Surrey. Friend lives there all year long about 5-6yrs ... Might be more, in a 5th wheel. Skirted with a deck & small storage rm addition on the deck. They move it in and out to travel to his job sites on the island or northern Washington, or to a time share in Washington park. (Constr foreman). It's a permanent site mostly over 50's next to transit hub to get into Vanc. 6+ yrs ago they were paying $600 for EVERYTHING. I'm sure it's gone up. But great neighborhood pub on site, seemed like a great community of other permanent rv'ers. Mostly permanent dwellers in one section and transient in another area. But that was couple years ago. Lost touch. Anyway the location is right on the Fraser river sooooo is prob on a flood plain. Hopefully it's not under water from last week. I personally HATE Surrey but this seemed like a great location to get everywhere in any direction in an hour and it was affordable.

Price's are going up up up on property. You might rethink buying a piece of property. It is an investment you could always resell with probably a good profit. Especially if you improve the property. I don't know about Canada but in the US inflation is rising so fast and driving housing prices and rentals up fast while devaluating your money rapidly. In a short period of time the dollar has dropped to eighty cents or less. Times are uncertain. I wish I had made different decisions earlier. People are getting priced out of the the property market fast. I noticed the changes even in Mexico. Cheap properties their in the desired areas are a thing of the past. I wish you a lot of luck in your search. What I don't like about parks is they can raise the rent every year and you have no control over that. Have you thought of crossing the border into the US. Blaine is just over the border on the Ocean unless you have reasons to stay in Canada. My mother lived in Blaine as a youth..

Thanks for message. Moving to the US isn’t a consideration. I’m happy to be living in Canada 😊

All due respect @Kim Hicks but many citizens of USA including me wish to move to Canada. Remember they have health insurance & other benefits we can only dream of in the USA bc it’s run/owned by corporations. Our govt doesn’t represent us as they’re supposed to or we’d have healthcare & a lot more that we wished we had that Canada does. There’s a joke from the time when Trump was trying to construct the fence between Mexico & the USA. The joke was that Canada was going to construct a fence between the USA & Canada so no USA citizens could get in to Canada. The punchline was that the fence would only need to be 3’ tall bc USA citizens would all be so poor, hungry, & sick we wouldn’t be able to climb over even a 3’ fence. That speaks to our declining quality of life & the loss of the “American Dream.” And so it goes. During Adelina’s house tour she mentions her bedrm closet is so big & long that someone could live in there. I grabbed dibs on it. Lol.
@kimhicks47813 жыл бұрын
@@marirose19 I realize Canada has always watched there border better than us. They even closed their borders to the US for a while over Covid. Canada is a great country. More like we were years ago but I was only thinking of probably a cheaper place to live and still be on the ocean and still just be a few miles from Canada. The area she is looking at Vancouver Island is very desirable but also very expensive and just across the border I would think would be cheaper and still close enough for health care for citizens as she is. It wouldn't cost anything to look. A lot of Canadian's come to Barth California to winter right on the border of Yuma Arizona. There is a military base there and a lot of Canadian's are buying acres of land in Arizona cheap, cheap, cheap for now with less restrictions than other states for making improvements and allowing RVs etc.. I know of one Canadian in Cochise county Arizona who is in the process of developing his homestead with the idea to eventually have some cabins to rent out to bird watchers. He didn't stay in Canada because he was priced out. From many comments I have read on other sights many Canadian say they are being priced out of even a chicken hutch a chicken wouldn't want to live in. Heaven help all who long to have their own place unless they are a millionaire.
