Yes, of course they have a relationship with it. Which is presumably why they recently announced they were deploying the fucking military to certain areas despite "not having a lawlessness" problem. I'd even go as far to say that the Swedish government is the prime fabricator of fake news right behind Russia, North Korea and China. Their entire government is an ideological fuckfest of the highest degree and even a cursory glance at them will demonstrate this. Mind you, this is the same government that has blocked archiving services and translation services on their pro-government news outlets just so the outside world cannot easily see how fucking loopy they really are. They spew fake new on the regular and are now trying to stop the outside world on reporting on it. Fuck, most of Scandinavia doesn't even fucking like Sweden, and thinks they are fucking loopy. Denmark? Yes. Finland? Also yes. Norway? Stretching it more but still somewhat yes. Fucking Sweden? Only in the twilight zone do they appreciate the truth. Don't get me wrong, most of these countries hate Trump, but most of them think Sweden is a laughing stock too.
@johan.ohgren6 жыл бұрын
That remark on deploying the military was a outlash from the opposition parties to score a cheap point. The Prime Minister later responded he did not completely rule out the possibility, but he was hunted down for it and only a few days later backed completely from that statement. It´s very unlikely that the swedish government would deploy troops against it own citizens. Specially (S) since they were the ones who fucked up in Ådalen 1931. That had a huge effect on the party for decades to come.

Believe it or not the American culture war is not the top concern for the rest of the world. The absolutely retarded shit that Trump is doing on the world stage is more of a worry. The continuation of military interventionism, undermining the already meagre global efforts to clean up the atmosphere, the normalisation of lies and bullshit in political discourse. Australia has some seriously strict immigration laws and treats undocumented arrivals like war criminals, and Australians generally think Trump is a fuckwit. Only weirdos go around judging other countries based on their immigration policies. Its more normal to look at the standard of living.and the amount of physical danger people have to live with.

It's very true. We do indeed loathe Trump here in Scandinavia (talking on behalf of Denmark, specifically). I think it's because we're no-bullshit, closed-in kind of people. We just want facts and no "show" when it comes to politics. Also, it's because ignorants, like Trump, like to refer to us as borderline communists because our system is socialist. That's just ridiculous. We hate communism! Communism is oppression and we have none of that here. Another reason why Trump might hate Denmark is that 4-5 % of our population is Muslim (in America it's only 1 %) :)

Sorry just have to be that annoying person to point out that Scandinavia is not socialist but social democratic since we to large extent embrace the capitalist system. Because the government having complete control over how companies operates, thats kind of how communism works.

It's actually funny how Finland, being a very out-of-the-way and forgotten country in Europe, and being super peaceful, has one of the biggest armies in Europe, with the largest artillery. Like if you look at Sweden, they have about 20 000 active duty troops and another 30 000 in reserve. Finland right next to them has around 34 000 active duty troops, but with more than 900 000 in reserve. So personnel-wise the Finnish military is about half that of the U.S. Military, which is an insane thing to think about

The real answer to the question of why Norway gives out the Nobel peace prize and Sweden gives out all the other prices is because Norway as a country has never started a war (viking raids don't count). Sweden has, and so Alfred Nobel felt that Sweden wasn't "qualified" to give out the peace prize :)
@samuelwallden-strouts68326 жыл бұрын
I heard it was to honour Norway
@AlwaysMegaHot5 жыл бұрын
Uhm no, the real reason is actually not known for sure but it is believed to be that the political situation in Sweden at the time of Alfred Nobels death was a bit unstable, in Norway however it wasn't, so Nobel probably felt it was more fitting that Norway and a Norweigan commitee handeled the Peace prize.
@LiOstad5 жыл бұрын
@@AlwaysMegaHot That is not one of the possible reasons listed as most likely on the website of the Norwegian Nobel institute. It could be that Alfred considered Norway a more peaceful country, it could be due to his admiration for Norwegian literature or as a result of Sweden and Norway technically being the same country at the time of his death.
@PokePresto5 жыл бұрын
Norway and Sweden were under a personal union when he died, so he probably gave it to Norway as "Norway" did not have any international political power and so was a perfect "Neutral" nation to hand out the peace prize.

Most Americans hate him too, lol. He has the lowest approval ratings of any President since the invention of polling. And even the Americans that DO give him a thumbs up in polls, half of them do it simply to be "nice." That's not a joke - there's a long tradition in America of "supporting the President" even if you disagree with him. It's considered polite and civilized. And though American politics are more divided and partisan than ever, a lot of Americans, especially older Americans, would ALWAYS say yes to the question, "Do you approve of the job the President is doing?", regardless of their politics or how they actually felt about him. So if you see a poll that says 36% of Americans approve of Trump, the real number is closer to about 20-25%. Incidentally, this is also why Americans appear so religious in polls. It's considered rude to tell someone you don't believe in God. It's a byproduct of 1st amendment religious freedom. To say you don't believe in God would offend someone, and many would even consider it religious discrimination to say that. So even though polls say something like 80% of Americans believe in God, the number is probably closer to 50-60%. And that's regional, too. I'm a Yankee, and up here, I would say only about 20-30% of people believe in God, tops.
@DeadeyeLefty6 жыл бұрын
revelwoodie: That's an interesting observation, thanks. But it wasn't being polite that almost put a religious wing nut like Moore into a judge's robes and very nearly into the Senate...or put one into the VP's office. Stephen. You haven't got you Viking history right. The Swedish Vikings went east and south. The Norwegians went west and so did the Danish Vikings. We know that because of the artifacts and ships found. Samples from the ships wood have been matched to the different countries wood.

The reason the Novel peace price is given out in Oslo is because Norway was part of Sweden when Nobel wrote his will.
@refragerator6 жыл бұрын
Alternatively: The Norwegians give out a peace prize as an annual reminder that if they _wanted_ they could go Viking again. So everyone plays nice with them.
@Nabium6 жыл бұрын
No, Max. The reason the Nobel Peace Price is given out in Norway - as is stated in Nobel's will at least - is because Nobel thought Sweden too conservative, while the Norwegians were more progressive. He wanted that particular price to be a progressive price. Norway had no nobility or any kind of "old power", it was a province of peasants building a new nation. Nobel wanted that kind of freshness to the price. Which is why I think we should stop caring about the Nobel Peace Price, it's given out by the Norwegian parliament and today it's filled with political favours. Giving the price to the EU or to Obama at the very start of his term. The Nobel Peace Price means nothing anymore, Norway isn't as progressive, fresh and uncorrupt as it was back in Nobel's days.

Our constitution drawn in 1814 forbids making new nobles, and in 1821 the government passed a law which abolished the nobility. They were only allowed to keep their titles for the duration of their lifetime. So already in Nobels times, it was more or less gone. By the time Nobel's will was written, only one or two nobles were still alive, but they had absolutely no power or privilege other than their title. Basically there were no nobles, the few nobles still left would all have been over 80 years old. But they had absolutely no power or influence, or had any say in how Norway was run. Compare that to Sweden which still have nobility to this day.

The reason the peace prize is awarded by Norway is that it'd be hypocritical of us to give it considering our history with occupying countries, especially Norway and Finland.
@bananrepublik86 жыл бұрын
It(Norway) was also a part of Sweden(sort of) when Nobel died.

Mookthilda King While tha may be true. The simple reason is Alfred Nobel stated in his will that he wanted the peace prize to be held in Norway.
