Adventures With Purpose Solves 30-Year-Old Cold Case from 1994 During Search for Another Missing Person from 2018.
The search took place outside of Elk Grove, CA - April 13, 2024, when Adventures With Purpose (AWP), the renowned volunteer dive team known for solving cold cases, successfully recovered the vehicle and remains of Arnell Narvaiz, a man missing since July 1, 1994. The discovery occurred during a search operation for another missing person, Duke Haringer, near the Delta Island Ranch in Sacramento County.
Arnell Narvaiz, who vanished while driving his beige 1988 Toyota to his workplace at a Delta Island Ranch, had been missing for nearly three decades. His vehicle was located submerged 30 feet deep in the Delta, buried up to the windows in silt. The AWP team, using advanced sonar technology, identified and verified the vehicle by retrieving its license plate.
Discovery and Recovery
The AWP team, led by diver and sonar expert, Jared Leisek, initially identified the submerged vehicle. After confirming the vehicle's identity, they coordinated with local authorities, including the Stockton Police Department and the coroner's office, to plan the extraction.
The vehicle's recovery required careful handling due to its depth and position. A rotator truck equipped with a crane was brought in to assist with the extraction. The team meticulously pulled the vehicle out to avoid losing any evidence or remains. During this process, they discovered human remains, later confirmed to be those of Arnell Narvaiz.
Coordination and Execution
Adventures With Purpose: Led the discovery and initial recovery operations, using their expertise in sonar technology and diving.
Local Authorities: The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office and the Coroner's office took over the official investigation once the vehicle was identified and brought out of the river.
Impact on the Family
Chanel, Arnell Narvaiz's daughter, expressed mixed emotions upon receiving the news. Born in 1992, she had no memory of her father, who disappeared when she was just 2 years old.
The family, initially resigned to never knowing Arnell's fate, now faces renewed grief but also a sense of closure.
Statement from Adventures With Purpose
"We are deeply honored to have been able to provide the answers and closure for the Narvaiz family after all these years," said Jared Leisek, founder of Adventures With Purpose. "While our primary mission was to locate Duke Heringer who's been missing since 2018, the discovery of Arnel Narvaiz's vehicle underscores the importance and impact of our work. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Narvaiz family during this difficult time."

I agree. That just means another family finally got answers, they got the closure that they wanted, Amel is another person who finally got to come home to be laid to rest and that his name is added to stack of others that they found and brought home. And that his name and picture is added to their intro of those who were brought home by AWP.

@@goldensun7702 suicide is a form of running away.. I've tried it a couple times and failed fortunately but it is just a more conclusive and permanent way of running away from your current circumstances. Depression tricks the brain into thinking you're not good enough, you don't have a purpose, your family doesn't love you, etc., oftentimes the thoughts start as intrusive ones, "I wish I could run away, live a completely new life, change my identity" but this isn't really an option when you have a family to look after, don't have the finances, digital footprints are everywhere. Eventually that can all get to be too much and your brain makes you think death is the only way out. I hope this wasn't the case here but it's very likely.

What struck me as the saddest thing about this video was the sight of Jared walking down the bank with that plastic bag, picking up bones from the water because that coroner couldn't be bothered to get her shoes dirty and do her job properly. Not the first time I'm seeing on this channel how carelessly some law enforcement agencies approach the handling of remains and of vehicles that contain them.

One thing even more disturbing than the insane amount of vehicles sitting at the bottoms of lakes, rivers, and so forth, is that some of those vehicles have people inside of them -- and you have no way of knowing there's anything down there, let alone a car with a presumably missing person in it. I don't go swimming, fishing or boating anymore without that thought crossing my mind at least once. Regardless, I'm glad these guys are making a huge difference in everything that they do.

He was found by accident on a logging road in the middle of nowhere by people on four wheelers. The police bekieve he was camping in the fall and got stuck by a freak early blizzard and was unable to get out. He was 50 kilometres from the closest road and he used a cane so wouldn't have been able to hike it. The feeling of relief mixed with grief is a gut punch. i always find it amusing when people complain about people not doing their jobs, meanwhile they throw all their money to entertainers who make them laugh and smile or get mad, rather than to all those people who 'should' be doing their jobs. kinda ridiculous that entertainers and athletes and whoever else are living lavish lifestyles making millions more than they can spend, but the people doing the real jobs to keep communities running are paid practically nothing by comparison, and have to suffer people complaining about them rather than ever thanking or appreciating them. maybe if things were reversed, the people with the 'real' jobs would be more motivated. just sayin

Police do this all to often and mostly have no connection to the victims & back story. Usually they want to get it done as quickly as possible. & also take into consideration that they(police) have supposedly been searching for the missing persons & vehicle saying they are doing everything they can and this team shows up and in a few days find the vehicle and makes the police look like they are not going above and beyond or just doing the bare minimum. So they are reluctant and probably pissed this is reflecting negatively on the police department

I've watched an interview with NYPD/M.E Police divers - removing remains from a submerged car is EXTREMELY dangerous to the recovery divers who can be seriously hurt and risk infection from glass, twisted rusted metal and debris (not to mention the shifting car and currents) 🤷🏾‍♀️ Safer for all involved to raise the car and dive after for missing remains/bones Not to mention many police teams don't have recovery divers. I imagine the family are grateful for whatever remains they can get and lay the mystery, and loved one, to rest 🤷🏾‍♀️💐

Jared, you should invent some type of a net or heavy plastic with holes on the edges for drainage, magnets on the sides to hold in place. It would be sized to fit side windows/windshield, etc., so it would help keep remains inside during recoveries. I bet some of your sponsors would gladly pay to develop something like that. You all do great work. Bless you.

That's gotta be a shock to the system. Wife assumed he left the family because he was potentially being unfaithful all these years, only to find out he had an accident on his way to work to provide for his family. All those years of anger and sadness at feeling abandoned, now can be resolved as sadness knowing he was just trying to provide for his family.

I was raised in the Central Valley of California and I will tell you that cars went in the sloughs all the time. The valley is famous for its foggy nights, pea soup fog. You sometimes had to have someone get out and walk in front of the car to keep from going off the road. Several times I pulled off and slept in my car till morning. Not surprised your finding lots of cars and people that have been missing for years. My condolences to the family but glad they have answers after 30 years of him missing.

I’m from Turlock and I can attest to some REALLY foggy winters in the Central Valley. I’ve driven highway 12 at night coming from the bay back to Turlock. Talk about a road that can get really foggy. Getting onto I5 south from HWY 12 I almost missed the exit that was maybe 50ft in front of me and I was going about 25 MPH. It was scary in some places where you just couldn’t really see anything. I have never been more happy to get onto I5 as I was that day. I am happy they were able to help a family find some closure.

I nearly drowned. Fortunately, I was recovered and resuscitated. I at first struggled, trying to breathe, but then I was at peace. I was visually aware I was under water. I wasn't fighting it. Then I was yanked to the surface. They pumped my chest forcing the water from my lungs. I started throwing up and my chest hurt. I have never forgotten. It hurt so bad to breathe. I suffered more from living through it.

Guys I just want to express my gratitude, not only for the work you do, but also for how you guys shot and edited this video. Building up that music, then absolute silence for the moment the car reaches the surface so everyone can just feel what they need to feel without a narrative (hope, sadness, grief, etc.) being pushed. The camera crew and editing team did a fantastic job on the cinematography. My morbid curiosity is like "let me see the remains" but it's just so fitting and respectful that you blurred them out. The whole thing in itsself is already quite graphic and raw, and we really don't need to see the actual body to know what's going on. I also love the way all teams, and people within the teams, work together here to create the best possible outcome and closure for the case. Fantastic work.

Did you even SEE the coroner? She ain't fit enough for that hike 😂 She'd take one step and fall all the way down. As for the other officers, how do you know they were uninterested? How do you know none of them was willing to take the photos? There's already two or three people down by the car, who likely volunteered to take photos for the coroner. The only person you should be mad at is the coroner. The other officers' job was to protect the scene and make sure no other civilians interfere. Their job is not to gather or record evidence. The only one there who's job that was was the coroner. Everybody else appeared to be normal patrolmen/deputies, not CSI
