We have a double light fixture that came with the adult bearded dragon we got from a friend that couldn’t care for her anymore and we were sold a light bulb that’s supposed to be the uvb on one side and basking bulb on the other side I see that the tube type is what you are using is that the only one that will work for uvb lighting and if so should we just put two basking bulbs in the fixture? Also how close to the lights should the basking spot be because hers is right next to the basking and Uvb light ? And is it ok to feed freeze dried crickets? because the crickets are so hard to feed jumping out of the cage etc and also end up dying off really fast so we have stuck to mealworms occasionally super worms I think they’re called they are big green worms and we also feed the freeze dried crickets I think it’s freeze dried lol but they are definitely dead so anyway I would appreciate anything you can answer for me thanks oh and she is shedding also I am just worried that maybe it’s because she is having the wrong light or she’s too close to it l? Oh and one more thing should she eat every day once a day or every other day because she was eating twice a day but I felt that was just a little too much and that could also be a reason for her shedding? Ok thank you

I am currently on my 3rd beardie from one of the big box chain stores. When I asked what I was doing wrong, the response was "nothing". Told maybe it was because the first 2 came during our big storm and not heated correctly. I had done my research and homework with other KZbin videos before getting even the 1st one (wishing I would have seen cold blooded creation videos first..... found you on pinterest). Not one employee at the pet store gave me any real info on my beardie and was actually surprised to learn some stuff from me. The water dish or how to give them a drink, the fact that they can have veggies as babies and should, also that their crickets are too big. Yeah they will eat them, they're hungry, but they should be the size between their eyes. I know now that if this beardie doesn't make it I will be purchasing one from you guys. Hands down the best info I have found. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge!!

I'm a new dragon owner. His name is Mushu 😁! I feed him fresh veggies. You guys were talking about vitamin c is very important. He loves yellow and orange bell peppers. He doesn't like for anyone to watch him eat. If he doesn't want it he will fling it everywhere with his back legs. He loves mealworms. I give him crickets so he can hunt something. I love all of the information you all give. I've done so much research and compared what seems right and what is absurd. Thank you again for your help!

Great videos, thanks for posting. We got a young dragon about 10 days ago and went through the ringer over the first week trying to figure out how much it should eat. The big box store told us about 15-18 crickets at 3-5 times/day. So, we bought 100 crickets and they said we will be back in a couple of days to buy more. Other online sources provided similar advice. Our baby - about 6 inches from snout to end of tail - only ate about 3-5 crickets per day for the first week. We were alarmed thinking that relocation stress would kill it. It looked healthy, was somewhat active, and all around responsive, but we were still concerned. Eventually, I concluded that 15-18 crickets several times per day was just too much for the baby. Anton is now eating about 5-8 crickets per meal at 2-3 times per day. He will eat what he wants and then stops and climbs up to his perch under the basking light. I take this as he is eating as much as feels like (which will obviously change as he grows). And, he comes down to gulp down chopped pepper, arugula, blueberries and carrots 2-3 times per day. We are satisfied that he is getting enough. And, we can tell he has grown in the 10 days since he joined the family. Sometimes we just need to take nature's queues. This video confirmed that it is possible to overfeed a dragon. Thanks.

Pet stores in Shallote NC has Chameleons, Geikos & Bearded Dragons placed for beginers. I told them these Reptiles are NOT easy care & not for beginers.I wish the states would stop these stores from sharing false info and force them to be honest about how hard it can be to care for these reptiles. We rescue many weekly due to ppl rehoming after purchasing. Because its harder than they thought. Thank you for sharing so much proper info

Do you feed an adult bearded dragon once a day? morning? Midday? I think that if you make a list on paper of what you talked about on this video so that people can copy it and have something to go by daily... That would be very helpful in taking care of of their bearded dragons.

I recently acquired my beardy as a baby back in Jan/Feb. I had an adult for a while, but he died of old age a few years back. This one is definitely a much more picky eater than what I am use to, so I've had to find different ways to encourage him to eat. I recently bought a cave style rock that sits in the corner and once a day I put crickets in there. Every so often, one or two will find their way out and catch his attention. When he's actually feeling hungry, he's learnt to go to the cave to see what he can find. I tried monitoring him when he eats and remove what's left, but it's hard to maintain this when I have to go to work in the morning. Before I bought the cave, I would put a few crickets in his cage for him to hunt during the day, but some would end up living in there with him, hiding in and amongst his driftwood perch and whatnot. He has little to no interest in fruits, flowers and vegetables at this point. But he does like peas that he'll eat them out of my hand with no hesitation, so I've started inserting supplement pellets into each pea just to make sure that he's getting his daily vitamins. Woodies (Australian wood roaches) are like crack for him. So much so that I need to be careful opening his cage when feeding them to him. He's already jumped out to try and get the ones I was holding. He'll also attack the side of his cage if he can hear/smell them nearby. Once you find something that your beardy likes and will actively chase, reserve as a treat, and for use when training your dragon.

I start working on a petstore like almost a year ago and they're really nice people and I do believe they like animals, but... just a few of us are actually deeply interested in animals at all. Not even talking about the reptile area in specific (we are only 2) . So there's me and another girl ((she's the one who teach me all I know about reptiles now day because at the beginning I was so scared of those sweet little dudes XD )) , but there's a thing... and is that since I started watching your channel I noticed that we, the petstore workers get the minimum of information about reptile care. That girl knows a lot to be fair but not this much so I'm really grateful I found this channel. And now I can recommend it to my costumers and get it for my own knowledge too.

I absolutely love this channel I am so glad I found you two. This is by far the best channel for me to learn about my new bearded dragon! I have one question request which I hope shows up.. - how to get my young dragon to eat vegetables. She doesn’t really eat from my hand and sometimes she’ll only eat veggies if I sneak one by her while she is basking with her mouth open. I leave it in the cage and she’ll ignore it until I need to give her protein. Thanks again you two! Look forward to future videos!
@ColdBloodCreations5 жыл бұрын
Sometime you will have to let them fast for a few days (it won't hut 'em) and then offer ONLY veggies until they take it. Then only offer insects as an occasional snack and ONLY after they have eaten their veggies.

Hi and thanks for these great videos you are making. When summer comes, is a bearder dragon gona be okay to come with us on a week holiday by the sea without taking all his terrarium lights and gear? ive always heard the issue with meal worms is not fat content, its the higher level of chiten (Spelling) aka their exoskeleton being harder and raising the risk of impaction
@ColdBloodCreations3 жыл бұрын
That is not true. The chitin is almost pure fiber, and actually aids in digestion. This is a rumor and it is not true. We feed mealworms regularly to all of our dragons, even babies, and they poop far more than they would if we didn't. Impaction is nowhere near as common as it is claimed or misdiagnosed to be.

He had his mouth stuck open onto the big rock that came in the 40 gal set. It was so heartbreaking.. We love our babies. We had watched some of y'all videos to educate ourselves..

I am a first time reptile owner. We adopted a baby Bearded Dragon in December. Could you make a video describing the life cycle of a Bearded Dragon? I would love to know more about the length of time between his ages/stages. Thanks for all your useful info!

Thank you. Please keep the beardie videos coming. Really appreciate the knowledge and experience being shared. My questions are: How do you bond with your beardie or is that even possible? Should he be taken out the cage daily? Should he be fed by hand? (I’ve noticed he becomes a little jittery when hand comes in enclosure.) Oh, and I “breed” red wiggler worms during vermicomposting, can I feed red wiggler worms (eisenia fetida) to the beardie and if so, how much, and how often? Thank you so much!

Hi, my beardie was handled daily by my girls daily and even gone to school for show and tell, (not recommend during C19) so she’s very comfortable and not skittish at all. But I’ve noticed that males demeanors are slightly different than the females. If you 8yr old is not afraid to handle your beardie, let them handle him daily. Start sm, can I call him Oscar for a minute? Take Oscar out of his closure, and the two of you sit on the floor with him and just interact with him until Oscar gets used to being handled, first by you and some petting from your child. Then day by day let your child start picking Oscar up low to the floor until they are both familiar with each other and soon Oscar will not be so skittish. LOL, just don’t do like I did and hold Oscar to your face, I got bit. I guess I scared my baby beardie. Good luck and I hope it works out well.

If your picking him up from the top of his enclosure your beardie will think it’s a pretator so I would say get a cage that opens from the middle so they will know it’s you and not a scary birb

Don't panic, it's pretty common for bearded dragons to be picky and stubborn. We have a short video dedicated to this subject, I'll link it for you here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4OwmaaBl8d1fdk Hope this helps! :)

I have 2 beardies, male and female. I had them for over 7 yrs. I've had 3 clutches laid. All eggs hatched and the babies went onto happy homes. And I have to say that I have never had a problem with mealworms, hornworms, or crickets. Also, I gut load my insects a few days before I give them to my beardies.

Would kale work for feeding a beardie as well?
@ColdBloodCreations3 жыл бұрын
I don't use Kale, but then again, I personally think Kale tastes like crap so... Some seem to think Kale is not good for them, but I don't know if it's true or just another one of those internet rumors like mealworms that are perfectly fine for them...

Can you do a video about temperament? We got a bearded dragon about three weeks ago, and she still freaks out when we try to take her out, her beard is almost always black. She does NOT like us handling her at all. How long will she hate us? 😂
@starsheen15 жыл бұрын
I should say she's about 8-9 mo old I believe. Oldest she could be is 10months, not quite a year.

Patience is a virtue. You are going to have to handle her/him to the point that trust develops. Beardies are typically not aggressive, but fear will cause them to appear to be. Once you gain the animals trust, you should see an improvement in behavior. But be prepared as it could take a little time and alot of interaction.

Constant black beard is a stress marker.

@@starsheen1 Idk how you're picking her up, but try scoping from her belly. Don't encase her. My mother's baby beardie REFUSED to calm down if my mother encased him in her hand, but I told her to not touch his back and just scope him up from his belly and legs and he was completely chill. She hasn't encased him since and we've had no problems with him stressing out/trying to escape. I also recommend doing a sound. Maybe the clicking sound most people do at cats, as a signal that you're fixing to touch the beardie and hold her. After a few times, she should associate the sounds with contact and not dying/getting hurt from it. It might still annoy her, but she shouldn't freak out since the sound let's her know that this is safe and she isn't in danger. Overall, all I can say is patience. Even if she gets mad, set a timer and keep her out for that long. Start with 3 minutes, to 5, to 10, all the way up to 30 or however long you would wish to hold her a day. This will ease her up to it and the timer will help let her know that she's going to be left alone once it beeps, and it makes sure you can't back out and give in to her stress signals. Putting her back in her enclosure as soon as she puffs up will just teach her that puffing up makes you leave her alone. Also make sure she has backgrounds on each side of her tank but 1. Over stimulation could be causing her to be so agitated if there is a lot of movement in the room. I.e, dogs playing, kids walking past, doors opening or any sort of loud and sudden noise. These can all stress her out greatly so the backgrounds help limit her vision of the room and keep her from over stimulation. Check the room over for stress inducing things to see if it's other outside factors. Air fresheners can make them act funny(my beardie gets lethargic if I have one in my room), too much movement in the room, pictures of animals like birds on the walls, animals in general if they're in the room, loud banging from doors or if you or your family yells that can stress her, and things like that. Goodluck to you

Mine isn't that into the veggies, but maybe thats due to just giving him one kinda green at a time. He definitely has room to grow though.

It's been years since I've had a bearded dragon and I'm having to do a lot of research and I'm really enjoying your videos. I bought a juvenile bearded dragon and was trying to make sure I got the right size tank and because it was already in a 10 gallon tank I got the same size as I was trying not to stress out the little thing too much and doing other researches saying that it's too big of a tank would freak it out I didn't want to do that. I am going to get a bigger tank and I was going to go with a 40 gallon but watch one of your videos where you said it would be good to get 110 gallon. My question I actually have is is a 40 gallon tank sufficient for a while or absolutely necessary to get one 100 to 110 because I'm not really sure what I would do with the tank that big in my house. Also I would like to know how often I should feed my baby dragon crickets or mealworms until it is older as he or she seems to really enjoy the veggies.
